One of the highlights was the delicious welcome cocktail they served at the beginning--it was a fun way to kick things off. Since we visited during the summer, the distillery wasn't actively producing bourbon, but our tour guide still did a great job explaining the process and sharing the history of the distillery. The gift shop was also worth checking out. They carry several different bourbon brands, including Penelope Bourbon, so there was a nice variety to browse instead of just a few labels. Overall, it was a well-run tour with friendly staff and a beautiful facility. I'd definitely recommend adding Lux Row to your Bourbon Trail itinerary.

Rest assured that you exit on a different road, so you'll see no cars trying to run you off on your approach. Worth a stop if you are in town. The structure has two rooms, a gift shop and a tasting room. We skipped a tour (we've been on so many) and headed to the bar. Kelly had a cocktail and I had a flight of Penelope, 1 rye and 2 bourbons. They were solid pours for $17, and I had a decent buzz when I left - the bourbons were 104 and 114 proof, as is the style these days. I especially liked the rye, smooth and spicy. The Architect bourbon was hotter than the barrel proof but both were still good. Lux Row also makes Remus, and the 6 year high rye bourbon is superb - a full bodied, easy drinking pour. If you live in Illnois, its often on sale at Binny's.

But beyond the personality, she really knew her stuff... even being part of the bourbon barrel rolling team, which made it all feel that much more authentic. Nelson drove us from the gift shop to the brand-new, state-of-the-art distillery, and he was great too. Strong Southern accent, tons of knowledge, and clearly proud of what they do here. We kicked things off with a welcome Old Fashioned made with Heaven Hill ice--such a nice touch. Throughout the tour, we learned about the history, including the fire, the rebuilding, and the resilience of the brand. And yes--there were plenty of samples along the way, which we carried with our neck lanyards (super fun detail). The highlight? Our final pour--a special bourbon that survived the fire. We were told there are only two bottles left, and it was absolutely incredible. Truly a "heavenly" experience from start to finish. Highly recommend.

The driver was professional, polite, and kind. His driving skills made me feel completely comfortable. The vehicle was clean, comfortable, and air conditioned. Seat backs were adjustable . I was recently asked by a group of retirees to help them to set up a charter bus for a day trip…read more They have used and LOVED Jefferson Tours. They have had a positive experience with them and would prefer to use them probably above all others. Unfortunately, when looking to book this trip, Jefferson came in with a quote/bid far above the other quotes/bids I'd received for the group. When I informed Marty of this, he graciously reduced his initial quote to match that which was the lowest received at that point. A day or two later, I received another quote for the group that was below even the lowest quote/bid we'd already received. Wanting to get the best bang for their buck, the group asked that I accept the new lower quote/bid. As a courtesy, I contacted Marty via email and thanked him for his time and willingness to try to accommodate the group's modest budget. Marty's response was rude, discourteous and simply unprofessional. Quoting Marty, he said, "We understand the need to keep the cost to a minimum but coming in and undercutting us twice does not show business etiquette in being honest". Basically, he was pissed and questioned my/the group's business etiquette for wanting to go with the more economical quote/bid that fit the group's budget. Of course, I called Marty and told him just how unprofessional and rude the tone of his email was and suggested that he should take some lessons on the art of negotiation and take his personal feelings out of business transactions conducted on behalf of his employer. And, just as I suspected he would do after being called out, he phoned the president of the group and tried to explain away his behavior all while holding firm to his last bid/quote...he wouldn't reduce his bid/quote again. Fine! But don't get an attitude and insult your REPEAT customer for not wanting to give your employer more for the same service that can be purchased from your competitor! It's called business Marty! Stop trying to beat customers and deal honestly then you wouldn't have to reduce your prices in the first place. Your first offer to a REPEAT customer should be your BEST offer! I hope you learned a lesson.

The Kentucky Bourbon Affair Higher Proof Expo was awesome! This event brought so many bourbon…read morelovers together in one space to learn about, and of course taste, some amazing bourbon. The event was filled with delicious eats and cocktails, educational sessions, and interesting conversations. There was also shopping, including a pop-up shop from the ladies at Sweet Mash and a book table with Fred Minnick, as well as hands-on activities, like pressing your own leather coaster with Clayton & Crume. Chateau Bourbon was set up with a make-your-own doughnut bar, that included homemade bourbon glazes, and they had two amazing cocktails; and Art Eatables was there with a chocolate and Angel's Envy Bourbon pairing. A day seriously could not be more well spent. This event is definitely one not to miss!
