The Kentwood Players Westchester Playhouse seats about 120. It is very small. The lighting is very dim. Be careful when you're walking down the ramp to get to your seats, especially if you are visually challenged. The parking is not so great located down the road near the railroad tracks which does not accommodate the whole theatre. Nearby parking is reserved for handicapped. The theatre is located in the middle of an industrial area. As far as a playhouse is concerned, it seems to be catered to mostly older people. Production of "Next to Normal" was a bit disappointing. Missing from the forces of instruments was an electric guitar, cello, and xylophone. I know this because I have a copy of the complete score as part of my studies. There were many botched lines and one of the actors messed up on his lyrics. Because of the lack of parking and because of where it is situated, I've given this location a one out of five stars. I will not be coming back due to rude clientele, and uncomfortable seats. There was an older grey haired woman who was constantly fidgeting and shuffling her feet during the performance seated two chairs to my left, with one extra chair separating us. While I was trying to read my program using a dimmed light that did not reflect towards her, she had the nerve to grab my hand telling me to stop. The chairs are not jogged so that your view is obscured my the person directly in front of you. At intermission I switched chairs with my husband. No one has the right to touch anyone else without permission. Save your money by not patronizing this theatre. It isn't worth it. read more

I loved EVERY MOMENT at this theater! First of all, free hot coffee at intermission? THANK YOU! The theater was very clean and I enjoyed the love how they featured the artists on the walls in the lobby! I came to see "By The Way, Meet Vera Stark." Absolutely LOVED this play. Nyoka Boswell and Denise Milfort absolutely SLAYED their roles. Truly electrifying performances that kept me wanting so much more! The play was captivating throughout, and my only note would be that the interview bit at the end could primarily feature Denise & Flannery playing their characters' older selves without so much input from the modern day scholars debating about their thoughts of Vera. Their input made the interview portion drag a bit, but that was my only concern, as every other moment was full and kept me on the edge of my seat! I am committed to supporting local theater, and look forward to visiting Kentwood Players again! read more

tonight I saw "Misery" performed by Westchester Playhouse! the place is small and situated in a residential neighborhood, and street parking is plentiful. the inside of the place was good, looks recently renovated within the last 5 years. seats are comfortable enough. the actors and play itself were awesome, I had never seen or read Steven King's Misery so I wasn't sure what to expect, but I loved every second of it! only complaint is the issue with communication among staff on here. I purchased E-tickets with barcodes on my phone, so I went to the usher at the entrance of the seating area and she said I needed to check in at will call to get printed tickets. so I went to will call and checked in, wasn't given the printed tickets, so I asked about it and told this lady that the usher told me to get printed ones from her. she said no, all I do is check in here verbally and I'm good. okay, so I go back to the usher and she asks for the tickets and I tell her the lady at will call said I just verbally check in and then come back. she gave me sort of a ticked off look so I said "you can ask her." she said she "doesn't need to ask and just go ahead in" with a look of confusion on her face. yeaaaa there needs to be better communication between employees on how the tickets and check-ins work because I don't need people thinking I'm lying or doing something fraudulent. that kind of made the experience a bit less than enjoyable. read more

Awesome local theater group! I came in here to watch Frederick Knott's play Dial M for Murder and was very pleased with the production. I love the Hitchcock movie, so I've always wanted to see the original play (on which the film is based) on the stage. It appeared many of the cast members were new to Los Angeles but they were all extremely professional and gave great performances! There isn't a bad seat in the house, as there were about 8 rows. I was in the second to last row and couldn't be happier with my view of the stage. Also, it seems like they may have done renovations within the year. The seating appears to be brand new (extremely plush and comfortable chairs) and the air conditioning works so well it seems newly installed! They have complimentary decaf coffee during intermission (a huge plus) and they sell water bottles and chips for $1 each. Parking: it's located immediately next to the 405 in Inglewood, and you park on the street. Plenty of spots in a quiet neighborhood. read more

We have seen two plays here and it is quickly becoming our favorite local playhouse. Every seat is a good seat. Their production of The Producers blew us away (what an amazing cast and performance). Plenty of parking but admittedly both times I got a bit lost because it's in a residential/industrial area but nothing that would detour me from going again. Water/chips/snacks at their concession stand during intermission. Would be nice if they had wine during intermission for sale too. Can't wait to go back. read more

I was thrilled to get to watch my sister in her first performance at this company. The cast was superb and theater is clean and practical with gorgeous art in the lobby and friendly staff. This seems to be a location for loyal patrons. Very charming bunch and friendly staff. A highly recommended community theater with a long and rich history of excellent productions. My wife and I always made a point of getting season tickets ($95 for 6 plays - it was $70 when we first started buying season tickets), which is an incredible bargain. The plays themselves are well done productions by seasoned actors, many of which appear in different productions a few times every season. This group also has few reservations about tackling a wide variety of well known plays, everything from comedies to dramas to musicals. The acting skills of the cast members are seasoned and professional, so much so that it's easy to forget that you're not watching a production at the LA Music Center. The theater itself is larger than you'd expect, and the somewhat broken down seats they originally had were recently replaced and upgraded a few seasons back. If you haven't tried this theater, I recommend it in the highest terms. It's consistently excellent entertainment for a very reasonable price. read more

Cute little venue. On a quiet corner of a busy street spilt, you wouldn't even know it was there. Parking is ample on the neighborhood streets, in addition to their small lot. I got there on time, so can't comment to any snacks or service. I got there just in time to get my ticket, tinkle, and sit down. Nice little theatre. read more

They nailed Sister Act. I was there opening night, and it was entertaining from first act to closing song. They even had us clapping to the music along the way. I didn't see any opening night flubs, well, maybe a few, but it made no difference. There was much fun being had onstage and off. One note when you reserve seats - get up front. The sound was a little wobbly - the band occasionally drowned out the singers, especially in the first scenes. I was in row three and had a hard time hearing actor's lines over the music in the first scene, so I assume the last 2 or 3 rows heard only music. But, that aside, it was a hoot. I have seen many shows here and all have entertained me and kept me wanting to come back. My boyfriend did a show here, which is how I was first exposed to this theatre. Both of us have a career in theatre, which is to say, I am not easy to please when it comes to a theatrical experience. Firstly, as to complaints about the temperature: the temperature onstage, under the heat of the stage lights combined with the heavier costumes the actors are wearing is much higher than the temperature in the audience. Actors can, and have, fainted from the heat or suffered even worse complications. Yes, it can get a bit cold when you are dressed for summer and then come inside. Just be prepared and bring a jacket. Turning down the air is not worth the risk to the actors! The second thing to keep in mind is that no two shows are the same. Each show has a different director, different designers, and different actors. So don't expect the same quality of show each time. Though Kentwood (the theatre company who presents the shows seen here) works hard for a professional quality show, some will be better than others. They do have a smaller stage and audience, but they also use the space well rather than relying on a grander stage to work for them. Sometimes their lesser known productions are the better ones, although they also present well known classics and modern favourites on a frequent basis. I would recommend looking up a review online for the specific show you want to see here. Or talking to someone who has seen the show if you can. They create public Facebook events for all of their shows, so start there for more information. I have never had a problem with the location of the theatre, or felt like it was in a dangerous area. I have often been here quite late after shows or rehearsals and never seen anything to cause alarm. It is in a more industrial area, and not surrounded by cute shops or restaurants, but that doesn't make it a bad area. This is literally the oldest theatre company in the Los Angeles area, it's over 60 years old, and I would recommend that everyone see at least one show here. Everyone that works there truly enjoys their jobs and it carries over into the experience. It's a night of theatre presented by theatre lovers. read more

The Kentwood Players are performing "GYPSY". The performance is excellent - very talented ensemble. It's the theater that made our experience a frigid one. The Westchester Playhouse was wayyy to cold. Seven of us attended a matinee performance. The temperature was in the 60s and the air conditioning was blowing down on us. At intermission, we asked the management to turn off the blowers and lower the A/C. The answer: not possible because the performers needed the theater to be cold!! If they keep that up, they'll be performing to an empty house!. Don't go unless you bring a very warm coat and a scarf for your head. We will never go there again! read more

This place is OLD school to the tenth degree. It is literally on the, almost, wrong side of the track, which makes it a little thrilling to live on the edge and watch a local show. It got 3 starts for the place not the show. It is in need of some serious investments...can we say bathrooms, roof, paint job, and so on. The show was amazingly fun and light. I was thankful for the air conditioner that went on mid performance. Would only hit this place up again if I personally knew someone in the show or there was a kid performance. read more

Great place to watch a show. All seats are good seats. I went to see Wait Until Dark last weekend and it was great. The cast/crew came out after the show and were friendly. I was surprised at one of the actresses who played a 12 or 13 year old girl only to find out she was 19 and her headshot was so different from her character, I would have never believed the two were one in the same. During the introduction to the show, a 6-show membership was offered and the price for your ticket could go to that membership. If I lived closer, I would have bought one. Since the theater is small, parking isn't an issue. intermission snacks included chips, coffee, candy bars, etc. for a recommended donation. The vibe was casual and everyone was welcomed. read more

Support your local theater! We stumbled across this place a couple months ago and got to see a fun performance of Young Frankenstein (the musical) on a Saturday night. And they convinced us to buy a season subscription, which is a great deal. $80 for 6 shows throughout the year. We just saw our second show (The Imaginary Invalid) last weekend.
