I called this company on Nov 14th asking for our boiler to be serviced. The previous owner used this company so we thought we couldn't go wrong. Jessica from the company wanted photos and I sent it to them and they reached out again two days later asking for what exactly we needed done. However, that was the last I heard back from them. It was around Thanksgiving so I tried to be patient. I called 3 more times, each time repeating all my information to these people. They all said I should reach out to them and Jessica directly but I never heard back from her or any of the other employees. I gave up on this company and went with Heritage. I would go out of my way to discourage others from using this company. I do not even know the prices but if they can't ever schedule an appointment for you, what is even the point of knowing the pricing? read more

Highly recommend Kerrivan Lane. We've used them exclusively for propane, but we also have an oil burner as a backup. This past month, we had to use the burner and needed to refill our oil tank. When I called the office to explain our situation, the gentleman on the phone was very helpful. He informed me that since they had never supplied us with oil before, they would need to inspect the tank before filling it. I expected a sales pitch, but he never tried to sell me anything--just straightforward, professional service. I called on Monday, and the delivery arrived as scheduled--actually a bit early, which was great--on Wednesday morning. Paul, the delivery tech, was fantastic. He's a very affable guy and we chatted as he did a very thorough job inspecting not only the tank but also all the connections, up to and including the burner. I was impressed. We woke on a Sunday morning to no heat in the house. A telephone call to their emergency service line was placed. Dave S. came promptly to fix a clogged glass tube on the steam boiler. The heat was working again in less than an hour. A couple of weeks later, our dining room cast iron radiator was not heating. Rob D. arrived, quickly evaluated the situation, and made sure the needed part was available to be replaced. Both Dave S. and Rob D. are very knowledgeable, experienced technicians. They explained the causes and solutions in details. They did a super job with extraordinary professional and positive attitudes. We've been so happy with Kerivan Lane so far! We weren't customers, and our water heater broke on Christmas Eve. Within days, they had installed a new water heater. We switched over our service to them, and since then they have been extremely friendly and courteous - Tom who installed the water heater and Darren who did our oil delivery were both great! This is the worst company I've ever dealt with. The owner Chris Lane and their customer service agent Meghan Lane have been extremely rude several times. Check the other 1-star reviews by using the filter, many other customers have said they are constantly rude as well. On Yelp their reviews are 99% negative. In doing their work on our tub drain the tech damaged our tub and put a large black chip in the porcelain, and they didn't even bother telling us. My tub is not from the 1970s like Chris Lane lies about in his comments below - it is exactly 6 years old when we remodeled (with receipts to prove it), and was in new condition before his tech damaged it. He guessed/lied about the 1970s because he looked up when the house was built. Just look at the image, the drain was done by Gerber, which wasn't even around in the 70s - and the up/down plug switch shown wasn't even a thing back then. Also, how on earth could they be so sure our tub was installed on a certain date anyways? Were they here for the installation in the 70s or something? Chris Lane harassed me and my wife multiple times over the course of 2 days and left multiple emails and voicemails saying to change the contents of this review. It is infuriating to be contacted and hassled by a company you no longer do business with at all, but still has your contact information. I'm not the only reviewer complaining about harassment or contemplating calling the authorities on Kerivan Lane. Apparently in his comment below he thinks I'm harassing him because I want to be compensated for the damage they did?! I have a right to expect that my property won't be damaged. Check the other 1-star reviews for Kerivan Lane, this is far from the first "he said / she said" argument over the facts between them and their customers. Once again we received a notice that the driver could not deliver do to hazardous road conditions. Our road is a dirt road, my driveway is paved. The dirt road had residual snow, driveway was clear, but the driver didn't even come up roadway. I called office and was told that I had 40% full tank and that they would come next week. I explained again that our road is a dirt road and that it is impossible to get to bare ground in winter. The person I spoke with gave me the same answer "we trust our drivers". I explained that Medway Oil delivered next door yesterday, but he didn't care. He said I was welcome to switch companies if I wanted. What kind of business does this??? A friend and neighbor had used this company to install mini split units. I had them come out and give me an estimate for mine. (In retrospect, I wish I had called at least one other company for the sake of comparison, but I didn't.). There was a partial rebate from the state and a 0% loan, so I signed on for $22,000 for five units. A few months later we noticed a very pungent smell of mold throughout the house. A few days after that, one of the bedrooms upstairs was suddenly flooded and we couldn't figure out where the water was coming from. I called one of the installers who I've gotten very friendly with and he panicked. Apparently one of the "interns" had taped up a condensation conduit with electrical rather than plumbing tape, so water was running into the walls for months, constantly. The black mold literally made me so sick I was bedridden for almost 2 years, but that's another story. KV came and denied that there was such a problem. I ended up suing them and it took over three years to get the mold remediation and reconstruction partially paid for. Customer service definitely!! Also the ability to understand other peoples hardships. So my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer the beginning of the year. We contacted them to let them know. We were going to be late on some payments but pay what we could when we could. The gentleman my wife spoke to said they understand and they said that would be fine and he said we should write a good review for them. Two weeks later, we got a letter from a collection agency? So from that time forward they notified us that we would have to pay what we owed by 15 November. my wife went on their pay portal the morning of the 15th and paid the balance, got a confirmation number saying that we paid and we thought we were good. She called them a couple days later to see asked if we could be put on a delivery for oil.The woman who answered the phone said that our account was closed as of the 15th. She told the woman that she paid the account off and had a confirmation number. The woman said the confirmation number didn't matter and had many reasons why it didn't matter but that makes no sense. The woman kept talking and my wife said, could you give me a chance to talk, the woman said no, and then hung up on my wife. So this is how they treat customers that have been loyal with them for 18 years. Horrible staff in the office, and then we get a letter from Caravan Lane stating that we were dropped as a customer. We did receive a letter from Kerivane Lane stating that we were dropped as a customer but the stamp at the post office had the date of November 15. Seems like even though they told us we had till the 15th to pay they had already decided to drop us without even honoring us paying by the 15th which we did. Shame on you! read more

I thought to either call the police to have a report for future use, or Town Hall, so their license to operate in Needham will be revoked, or my lawyer, but didn't so far - they are THAT bad. The contract states - when oil level reaches 1/4 tank, they deliver oil. Automatic delivery states - it is delivered every single months. It was not delivered during a cold March and April when child was at home 24x7 during school vacation and we had to heat up the house non-stop and oil level went south of 1/4. My 6 or 7 e-mail and many phone calls asking to deliver at least some oil, so we would get no heat had no effect. I was told - we will not deliver oil for you at the celling (contract) price until that contract expire and then - yes, we will deliver at the market price (haha, $6.99 per gallon of diesel right now times my 250 gallon tank). That's the reason to pay more and have celling price in the contract, but they have not honored it when price increased and didn't care that we are running of oil, the child is at home and disregarded all contract terms for timely and consistent delivery. I always paid right away and my account was in good standing and active. Their denial was in writing and as a voice mail. I am seeing similar reviews here, for similar issue. read more

I have been trying for months to get them to fix my heating system. On three different occasions over the last five months, they have told me they would "call me back", but would go weeks without doing so, requiring me to call repeatedly to try and get them to come finish the job. The first person that came out to try and fix it thought he knew what was wrong, ordered a part, and told me he'd call me back when it came in. He never called back. I eventually got them to send a second person out. He installed the part, realized that wasn't the problem, and (thankfully) didn't charge me for the part. However, he also installed wiring for my thermostat during this visit. Despite claiming otherwise, this wiring does not work. I've now been charged over $500 for two visits, and my heat is no closer to working. I was told today someone would call me back again, but no one has. It's going to be 35 degrees out tonight. Also: Despite posting business hours until 5pm, they consistently shut off the phones no later than 4:15pm on Fridays. Stars are for not charging me for a part I clearly didn't need and generally being nice in person and on the phone, when they actually talked to me. read more

Kerivan-Lane was my oil supplier for 1.5 years. The first year, we only needed oil deliveries. They were always on time for this. The second year, we decided to get propane to our house. I asked Kervian-Lane 4 different times to help me with this. They were too busy, and when a guy finally came he told me it couldn't be done at my house. Three days later, tank farm had a propane tank installed at my house. Two months after this, there was an issue with my oil burner. A guy from Kervian-Lane came and told me in 10 minutes (billed me $178) that I needed a new oil burner and that someone will provide me with a quote. I had to call again to inquire about the quote and still haven't received it (its been a week). I have decided to cancel my contract to work with a company that is more responsive to customer needs. read more

Friday afternoon at 5:00 PM our air conditioning stopped working---heading into another sweltering weekend. We called and left a message with the answering service. 20 minutes later we received a call back and a half hour after that a technician was at our house where he replaced a part resulting in our air conditioning working again. We signed up for their fixed-rate home oil special in September 2021, at a rate of $2.799/gallon through 5/1/22. Between September and February, they added about 75 gallons to our tank on a consistent basis. Then, when prices increased, they stopped delivering oil. We contacted them several times requesting delivery. Instead, they sent a tech to our house unannounced to measure our tank. After indicating that we would contact the AG for allowing our tank to go empty, the owner, Christopher Lane, left a voicemail saying they would not fill our tank or honor our offer, which expires 5/1/22. If you are looking for sloppy work, getting billed (without fixing the problem) at an exorbitant rate, and getting bad service, look no further than Kerivan Lane. I got a fujitsu minisplit installed in October 2018. I was shown photos of how the condenser would attach to the house. After the installer left, I saw that he placed the condenser standing in my garden, not attached to anything. I called the office numerous times and after WEEKS, they came back out and put down a slab of concrete in the garden and placed the condenser on top of that. Nothing was bolted down or fastened. I could make the unit wobble. In the meanwhile they kept sending me bills for a finished job. I didn't want to pay the final amount until the job was done correctly. They told me they would send my bill to a collection agency if I didn't pay. After many calls to a few different people I finally got someone to come out and attach the unit to the house. Here it is a little over a year and the unit needs repair. I had someone come by a few weeks ago and he thought he fixed it. When he left I was back to having a nonfunctioning minisplit. I called Kerivan Lane to send someone back to fix the problem. He told me that I owed $258 from the service visit. I explained that nothing was fixed and it was just as unusable as it was when I originally called for help. He said that he would send someone out but it could be more money depending on how long someone was there and if they needed parts!!! I tried to contact the salesperson but never heard back from him. Not a bad oil company, if you like to deal with a company that does not keep their written word! Their new customer agreement promises a certain flat rate through a certain date. Easy enough? Not really. There is no fine print on the agreement, but if there were, it would say...NOT SO FAST...we won't *really* give you this price for a full year, even though it clearly states this...blah, blah, blah. Outside of them not sticking to their promotion, they are a standard oil company with decent repair people and service levels. These guys, (Keith) sounded like they had a good deal going at first. But when oil prices every started dropping and their prices were still high or even went up at one point, I knew something was wrong. I made several attempts to get the prices lowered and they refused. So I finally I called to cancel and my buddy Keith says " Well did you know that if you cancel before April, there is a $400 penalty?" No I didn't Keith! I wouldn't have called to cancel if I did, that's because you didn't tell me. It's my fault didn't ask, and my fault I didn't read the fine print and that's only reason I'm giving them 2 stars. The team at Kerivan-Lane is always friendly, and they were helpful on the first visit, but that's about all I can really say. Since then, getting repairs done and scheduled and getting quotes for any other work done is nearly impossible. Every time we call, we are told the same thing: "we'll call you back." But weeks go by before they do (if then). They have now been out here at least three times to fix the same problem with our AC units. Each time they fix it, it's broken again fairly quickly. Each time, they have promissed to send a quote for a real fix - but 7 months later we are still waiting for that quote. read more

Two nights ago, during the current record cold snap and snowstorm, we lost our hot water. We called in to their emergency service and, within 15 minutes, had been called back. Phil showed up, at night, within 45 minutes (Note: We have a service contract, which may or may not have sped things up. We also paid overtime, which they told us about in advance, because it was at night. In other words, there were no billing surprises.). We couldn't get the hot water working and the heat had also gone out, so they sent Tony first thing in the morning (yesterday). He was great and not only fixed the heat quickly but also discovered a cracked pipe buried deep behind the wall. We figured that we would be without hot water for at least a week, but they had Pete come out this morning and he was able to route a pipe to restore our hot water. Summary: It was a record cold spell and we live in a hundred-year old house. After our heat and hot water both went out, they had everything fixed and/or working within 48 hours of our first phone call, this despite the fact that every plumber in Massachusetts likely had an endless list of customers. They also took the time to explain exactly what was going on and what the possibilities were to fix it. Well done. These are the types of interactions that build tons of goodwill. read more

DO NOT use this oil company! Especially do not speak with Briana who is in customer service - talk about a contradiction in terms! They do not honor their contract, their word, they are rude and customer service means NOTHING to them. The number of poor repeat Yelp posts complaining of poor customer service, lack of integrity and one star ratings validates a trend - "Where there's smoke, fire is near by." Further, my father got us involved with Kerivan Lane along and has since dropped them due to similar complaints of arrogant, rude customer service and not honoring their word. During the winter we were experiencing issues with our burner putting out cool air despite our tank being half full. We tried to troubleshoot over the phone. We did get heat but were on a a plan and tried to get a tech to look at our system. Due to the storm we were told that those homes without heat would have priority. Over the next three weeks we tried to accommodate this company. As we were going out the door one of their techs suddenly called after two weeks of repeated calls to KL and stated he would be stopping by in 20 minutes. So we waited. But then he called and said he was not coming and going to another house. So we left on errands and fund out that the tech returned and said we were not at home. Briana, referenced that date by trying to say we were at fault by not being at home. During one of the most recent Nor'easters we were low on oil but not completely out. The burner was pumping in cool air. We had encountered this issue before but hitting the reset button fixed the problem as was advised by KL's technician. I called KL and Briana curtly and impersonally did nothing for us, even after I mentioned we had 5 y o twins that were freezing. Further, she stated that a $100 charge would be affixed even after I told her that would not be necessary as a KL tech informed us that hitting the reset button should fix the problem. I told her that her lack of assistance would force me to find emergency oil service elsewhere, which she received inn a cavalier manner. We were referred to MacFarlane Oil. They were very personable and accommodating. Their vehicles were tied up at the moment but concerned for my twins they referred us to an emergency service, Tesoro, Inc, from Westwood. They were extremely prompt--15 minute response time--courteous and cost-efficient. They filled the tank up with no issues and no need to pay a $100 service charge that KL tried to force down our throats! This morning Briana, vindictively said she canceled our service from the previous Nor'easter (so KL does not have to honor their burner servicing agreement with us in April). Due to the aforementioned facts, my family is following my father's route as we are switching our business to MacFarlane from KL. Viewing KL in the rear mirror is addition by subtraction. Apparently, many other patrons feel the same way as we now do. read more

I had a Fujitso Ductless A/C system installed in my condo in the South End exactly five years ago, after suffering with electric baseboard for the previous fifteen years. The bad news is I have become accustomed to air conditioning after priding myself on going without all those years. The great news was and is that I am finally warm in the winter and at a fraction of the price I would have paid if the electric baseboard was even capable of warming my unit. And I have not spent a dollar on repair or upkeep. I dealt with Jack Lane, who was very knowledgeable, the price was great, and everyone went in like clockwork. read more

We have been using Kerivan since November 2013. They provide our oil for the house. This has been a good experience - we never have an issue. Our boiler failed last year in the house. We meet with many companies regarding the boiler and boiler replacement. However, Kerivan was the only company that sized the boiler correctly for our house. Sizing the boiler correctly for your house is actually more difficult than I thought because we got companies telling us many different things. However, based on our research - Kerivan got it right. And now that we have had a year with the boiler - it is perfect even in the "polar vortex". Now we are in the midst of two mini bathroom remodels. Kerivan is assisting us with those remodels and their experience and knowledge has been invaluable. Kerivan has earned my trust and respect. read more

So it's the coldest weekend of the year and I ran out of oil, I called to ask for a delivery and I was told that its not worth their time to drive from Needham to Framingham for just 100 gallons and that for them to do it they would need to fill up the entire tank and that would cost about $900. You would think that after being a customer for over 5 years that they should have called us and said they no longer want to service our house. Thats sad because I liked them and I never had a problem with them but obviously money is more important to them then the safety of my family and house. read more

A pipe was leaking from out heating system on the weekend of course. Kerivan-Lane came out on a Saturday...did a temporary fix until we could discuss with the office on Monday the best way to proceed. They reached out with a solution and a quote in a timely manner and within a week the unit was fixed up and running. Peter was the gentlemen who came out ( with another person who Im sorry I forget his name) covered everything on the floor in that room to preserve the new rug and went to work....within 2 hours we were all set. My husband and I are extremely disappointed in the service that we have received (or I suppose you could say *haven't* received) from Kerivan Lane. TL;DR: KL has been stringing us along for nearly two months, charged us for permits for work they didn't do, and now are refusing to do the work they agreed to unless we agree to get our oil from them. We have a signed work agreement! They are complete crap at communicating and frustratingly slow to do anything. When my husband and I first moved into our home, we contacted KL about our propane tank. We received great advice from them to use up what we had and then come back to them, at which point they would replace our LPG tank and pipes for a reasonable cost, including tank rental. Apparently, there has been a shift in customer service since that time. We came back to them when we started running low with another suggestion--we'd contacted MassSave and wanted to add to our original proposal and also have an indirect water heater installed. Chris Mulroney came to our house, inspected/measured everything, said an indirect water heater would work with our steam system, and sent us a proposal, which we agreed to and signed on Oct 14th. The week of October 23rd, KL came to our house to begin work, and left after doing no work at all. They claimed that an indirect water heater would not function with our system, which is blatantly incorrect. Not only did MassSave and Chris tell us it would work, we sent them a This Old House video showing someone installing one on the exact same heater in an identical house. We spent over SEVEN WEEKS (a time in which I haven't had a range to cook with) trying to get in contact with them. They did remember us enough to send us a bill for the cost of the permits for the work they didn't do. Yesterday, we demanded to work with someone other than Chris, and KL said they'd text him and have him respond immediately. We said no, new person. They said that if we switched to a different person, we'd have to start all over again with measurements and new permits, which is completely bogus. So we said fine, text him. He did not call, so we called him again today. Chris said on that call that an indirect water heater would work, but that it would cost double the price of their original estimate (FOR THE SAME THING). Chris said that the price we had earlier was lower because he "was hoping to get our oil business." We have never indicated in the least that we were looking to change oil companies?? We clarified that we don't want oil, but at this point just want a propane tank and our stove hooked up so we can friggin' cook. We received another estimate from KL today and it included "oil service and supply." When my husband responded back reiterating that we don't want oil service and asked we could have a new proposal without it, KL responded "Unfortunately no. Kerivan Lane is offering you this installation in conjunction with oil supply." At this point it seems like it would be better to cut our losses and go with a company that is not full of incompetent liars. I 100% DO NOT recommend this company. read more

Due to their higher charges compared to their competition and following a call over the summer to inquire about additional perks that would entice me to stay w them, I decided to not use them to deliver heating oil this winter. Hence, I was surprised to see that they were charging me for contract renewals in early November. I wrote and called to assertively state I was not renewing my contract with them for any services yet they delivered oil yesterday without me calling them, charging at least 39 cents/gallon more than their competition. To add insult to injury, the person who took my call to complain about this hung up on me. Bad business practices with no understanding that not addressing legit customer concerns can cost them a lot of business. The technicians at Kerivan-Lane are competent and arrive during the time window promised. They performed the work as expected. That said, I found that scheduling an appointment is a challenge. Unless it is an emergency (no heat), it was difficult to get an appointment within a week, and in one case they were booking 3 weeks out for a annual HVAC cleaning. When I tried to cancel an appt, there was no way to leave a non-emergency voicemail during non-working hours. I also found that their service is expensive. The hourly rate is $125/hr and they round up to the next hour. First of all - ALL of the positive reviews for this company are from one-time posters. Hmm, interesting... Just sayin. My experience: A decent price with the budget plan, but once the friendly folks here set up my account, they sucked every step of the way. EVERY MONTH I had to call them because they charged my card automatically (I had set it up with them that I would send them a check each month). Multiple times, I had already mailed the check when they charged my debit card... and they went ahead and cashed my check too, overdrawing my account... THANKS. I continuously received bills that were completely wrong, including either last months amount, despite paying on time, or with a bogus "pay this amount." Despite my verbal and written requests to stop my budget plan and close my account, they still tried to reactivate my budget account and sent me a bill for my first budget payment for the 08-09 winter a couple of weeks ago. [heating/plumbing/propane] Mike is fantastic. Always helpful. Phil was awesome today, swinging by the same day my heat failed to work. Replaced the part, explained the what and why - and committed to make arrangements to have a full assessment of the heating unit to avoid potential disaster for the coming winter. They're the best when it comes to plumbing needs too (in fact their young guru, whose name escapes me, was the reason I converted my propane and oil/heating to Kerivan in the first place). Always pleasant, professional, thorough and reasonable on cost. Definitely a 5 company and team to me!! read more
