We've had a very long challenging history with Atlantic. The only reason we keep using them is because our contractor really pushes using them, and it's hard to find an alternative in any case - I've had one other service out but they didn't really instill confidence. We moved into our condo 19 years ago; central AC stopped working when the next summer rolled around. Same with the next, and the next - a new coolant refill every time. Eventually, when pressed for an answer, Atlantic reported suspicion of a leak in the system, but were unable to find it over the next 5-ish years when AC kept failing to cool right when it gets really hot here each summer. At some point we decided to purchase a new system that cools the air within the unit - bypassing the concern about a possible leak. Absurdly expensive b/c it's huge and on the roof, requiring a crane etc. Except, that one also fails about every one-two years and no one knows why. They're *very good* at making you feel like this fix is the one that will stick, but it never does. Wish we had pushed for a warranty-based fix before our warranty ran out. Also, lots of variance between technicians. This summer, when the system failed per usual and I had to have a technician out, the first technician exclaimed that the amount of rust in the system was very concerning because we were "breathing it all in." When I showed it to an Atlantic salesperson/technician a week or so later, he said that there was absolutely no health risk and that the rust was completely normal. Which one to believe....? In the meantime our mini-splits on the lower floors have been conking out over the past 2-3 years - all pretty old. Said salesperson/technician from the last visit came to provide an estimate two weeks ago. Despite attempts to reconnect with him, he has vanished. I was hoping to get the AC taken care of by now as we're nearing July and it's going to get extremely hot here, but I'm about done with this company. read more

Emerson came this morning, immediately figured out the problem (we thought we needed a new pump, it turns out there was air in the system), and fixed it. I had very high hopes for this company, and things started out very well. I had a proposal that I was planning to choose over others and a nice salesperson. I had asked to pause to fill out applications with Mass Save I had to do but the outcome was still unknown. I was notified very abruptly in an email without any explanation that hewere not going to go ahead per "Boss", the same one that is trashing folks that happened to have negative experiences like I have.That is not "reasonable behavior" or even basic courtesy, and the fact that a business is family-owned doesn't mean that they have good manners. We needed a new boiler, ours was past expiration date but was still running.We had Jamie come out to take a look and get us an estimate. He is a superstar. I mean some of the best customer experience/ service I've ever received. He patiently explained things, reviewed options, etc. I wish he could have done the install too. He answered all our questions in the back and forth on the estimate, and the chimney liner we needed and everything. I thought all was clear, we had one miss but overall got the new boiler and crazy fan thing that goes with it (don't love, but needed it). We needed a follow-up visit and got it in a very timely way. We even worked with the owner's son, Liam he great to work with too. He really listened, he was responsive and a delight to work with. I would recommend this company based on their customer service from the salespeople and responsiveness when issues arise. Like all home repair folks, the company struggles with accuracy on arriving when they are meant to come. One time they arrived too early and it was morning so I was running out of the shower. Another time they set an appointment for 230pm and came at 815am. I'm just glad the work was done. read more

I give Atlantic Heating a rating nothing short of 5 stars for installation of a new boiler in our house. We had estimates provided by two other companies, and I'm positive that we chose the best company by going with Atlantic Heating. My initial phone call to Atlantic was answered by a knowledgeable employee, who was polite and scheduled a prompt visit to our house to assess the situation and provide an estimate. Bill Prevett of sales came to the house to assess the situation. He was extremely knowledgeable and worked with me through the pros and cons of many possible solutions. A few days later I thought of some other possible solutions, and without hesitation Bill came to the house to scope out these options. He helped me take down some ceiling and also measure crawl space to determine potential possibilities for venting. He also arranged for the chimney inspection and estimate. We agreed upon the best approach and price. Of note, Bill was not at all pushy, and he was quite helpful in working through what would be the best solution for our specific needs. A few days after I signed the contract, Darren of Atlantic Heating came out to the house to scope out the project for his installation team. He sized up the situation efficiently, and then arranged to start much sooner than I would have imagined: the next day! We were pretty happy about that. They also arranged for the chimney guys to work on short notice. Carl and Brian showed up the next day to dismantle the old boiler and haul it out, and in the afternoon started with installation of the new boiler. In one and a half days they created a beautiful looking, tight, efficient package: wall mount high efficiency Lochinvar boiler, and 5 zone pumps, and necessary accessories. Carl's genius and creativity in planning clearly shows in the end product. He is truly a master craftsman, and he takes great pride in his work. We're really happy with the end product. I am impressed that each and every individual was professional in behavior and approached their work with great pride. Everyone was super polite. I could not be more pleased with the end product, the team, and the price. Great value. Great service. And a great group of people. read more

We hired Atlantic to install a split air conditioning system in our old two family house. They completed the job in three days, cleaned up, and only added three ducts to the exterior of the house, and none in the front. The ac is great - very quiet and very cool. read more

They may need to work on the customer service aspect as far as the outbound calling goes but the in person service I received from Ken was outstanding. I called towards the end of the week Christmas week and they explained that they were only taking emergency calls that week. They said they would call first thing the following week. I did not receive a call back and had to call them. That's better than a no show in my book just poor business on their end. Once I called and got an appointment, I was given a window of 8-12. I figured Id see someone by 1:30 if lucky but my door rang at 8:30. Ken was very clear explaining our issue and walked me through how to avoid it in the future. I was at work by 9:30. From reading the other posts and having one minor inconvenience on my end, it looks like they may need to sure up some things on the inside but the in person service I received was excellent. We chose Atlantic Heating & Air Conditioning to help us re-engineer and install an entire new system for heating and air conditioning in our 1880's Victorian home. We went with them because they are reliable - they provided a heating unit for our downstairs apartment three years ago, and we were happy with the product and service. They were also competitive in terms of pricing. It was a big job to replace our 1970's system, and it involved creating new heating ducts as well as the removal of our old system. Dave (the owner) provided a full education to us on what it would take to install the system, and what our product options were. His team was completely professional and courteous. Even during the two weeks of installation which took over our house, the crew was careful to protect our floors and furniture, and left the house clean every day. They were very accommodating to any requests and were nice guys in general. I felt comfortable coming and going, and leaving them to their work. They came when they said they would, and they were here all day every day until the job was finished. The company also went above and beyond in making sure we got the company rebates for the systems we purchase, even filling out our paperwork for us. The heating system is a huge improvement to what we had. You can really feel the difference, and we know we will realize efficiencies in our heating bills. They gave me a window of 1-5 PM. I called at 3:30 because I hadn't heard from anyone and was getting nervous they were going to flake. 5:30 came around and still no call from anyone so I made the call again. They told me someone was on the way. Finally someone showed up around 6:20. This is where they redeemed themselves. The technician who arrived was polite and EFFICIENT. He fixed the filter on my unit and proceeded to the main unit on the roof where he quickly identified the problem and fixed it. I now have AC again which I am very happy about. If Atlantic wants to improve on anything, it would have to be communication. I am very satisfied with the result though. read more

The did the job correctly, but not without A LOT of difficulty. They came to clean out my AC lines and the guy mentioned that I would need a new filter that required a special order. Before he left, I asked how much this will cost and he said don't worry he will give me an estimate before he did the work. I had to call them three times over the next two months to get them to come back in to finalize the job. They were 2 hours late when they did come. I asked the guy how much everything was going to cost and he gave me a quote. When I received my bill it was twice the estimate. When I called to complain about the bill I was told that the "estimate" was just for parts and did not include labor. I guess when I said "how much is ALL of this was going to cost" they assumed I meant please overcharge me for everything you do. I ended up getting some of the cost knocked off the final bill but I will never use them again. P.S. the positive reviews on Yelp for this company were clearly written by someone that works for the company so don't believe them. read more

Jorge arrived on time, he even called before to say he was on his way...he fixed the problem efficiently and quickly..he did not try to upsell me anything.. I have had HVAC contractors in the past try and sell me new systems, despite the fact that my current system is only a few years old(!!). I didn't get that vibe from Atlantic. He did say that one particular part might need to be replaced eventually..but it was "ok for now"..again no upsell to spend thousands needlessly. And he gave me a rough estimate for the future repair..which was far less than I anticipated...I am sold on Atlantic Heating and Cooling, and when the time comes time to replace or upgrade..you will get my business, thanks again for your promptness, professionalism and honesty!! read more

I've never dealt with worse customer service. Even when trying to speak to a supervisor or owner I was rebuffed by a very rude receptionist named Amy twice. We asked them to come analyze our system because we were having problems with cold air blowing out of our heating ducts. They told us someone would arrive on Wednesday at 8am. Someone showed up 45 minutes late- no phone call to indicate they were going to be late. The technician was friendly and told us our system has to be reconfigured, and that they would send us an email explaining the issue. They also said they would get back to us to schedule a date to repair the system. We never heard back from them. It is now Friday, and last night our heat shut off. I'm not saying they are responsible, however nothing has changed in how we use our system and the only variable seems to be that they came and did something with our unit. Suddenly it isn't working. We called to see if they could come repair the system today, they said they would come between 9am and 12pm. At 1:30 WE called THEM to ask what was going on, and EDDIE- who was identified by AMY as either a supervisor or owner- told us that they wouldn't be able to come today, and they might be able to come by Monday or Tuesday, and our best bet was to go out and BUY SOME SPACE HEATERS!? More or less the message was 'We don't need your business anyhow, too bad, you're on your own'. DO NOT HIRE THIS SERVICE, DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AS WE HAVE. There are many other services in the city, within a half an hour we had another company not only willing but eager to come assess and fix our system right away. read more

Had previously used them and had been happy with them. This time around I was quoted a "ballpark" when they came out to look at the job and when the final estimate came in it was much more, but I had liked them before so I went with them. The workmanship was horrible and sloppy, unprofessional. The tech kept making excuses. The tech couldn't even get the heat back up and running after he had relocated my unit. He was so confident in his assessment of the problem, but was completely incorrect and we ended up without heat for 4 days over a cold weekend. They sent space heaters, not a person to fix the problem and it was an easily fixable problem.... The service supervisor (Tim Woods) was not responsive or helpful. Justifying the unacceptable work. When I said I was left without heat for 4 days, his comment to me was "you had space heaters" thats not without heat. I will never use them again. They also like to do little add on's for work that you will need to carefully read the contract to pick up on. If I could give them a worse rating I would but 1 star was the lowest it would go. update 11/20- Well I cant say the problem is fixed but did speak at length to one of the owners today and they are willing to make a large price adjustment to help ease the pain of things that didn't go right. I must say that was a pleasant surprise and a welcome one. We don't always get things right but I have alot of respect for a place that says i'm sorry and how can we try to help make it right. They gave me a window of 7-9pm boasting about same day repair. Then they called 2 hours later to move it until the next morning. The window was then moved to 8-9am. We told them each time they needed to bring a ladder because our unit was on the roof. They showed up the next morning 30 min later than the window without a ladder. I had to turn them away. Utter lack of communication and disorganization. Do not recommend to anyone. There are plenty of other repair services out there. read more

Last summer I called Atlantic when my air conditioning system wasn't working properly. They came promptly, made a temporary fix, and recommended that we replace the system. I was pleased with all aspects of the work: the person who gave us an estimate came as scheduled, and the men who replaced the system couldn't have been more polite and more efficient. They covered the floor and stairs from the unit (3rd floor) to the front door, took their shoes off, and were minimally intrusive. Highly recommended. read more

I very strongly recommend hiring Atlantic. I had them out, as well as others, to give me a quote on replacing my 30+ year old oil boiler. They recommended that I contact Mass Saves in order to explore rebates and financing. In doing so, I received nearly $2500 in rebates and was able to finance the job at 0% for 7 years! Now to the job - they did exactly what they said they would do! They installed a new boiler and water heater in a timely and clean manner. The only problem I ran in to was when I fired up my heating system months later, it appeared that two wires had been crossed on my heating zones. I called them and they came out, the same day, and fixed the problem in minutes. read more

One of the A/C condensers that they serviced at the beginning of the summer stopped working, and when I called to have them look at it again, they said they could not do so for over a month. We have been customers for almost 30 years having had them install two furnaces over the years - NO MORE!! We even paid the milage charge from Brookline to the South Shore since the service was always good- UNTIL TODAY - when the temperatures and wind chill dipped below zero and our heating system did not respond to the thermostat setting. I called and explained that we had NO HEAT It was down to 62 and going lower- THEIR RESPONSE- "WE WON'T BE ABLE TO LOOK AT IT AT ALL TODAY BECAUSE WE HAVE CORPORATE CUSTOMERS WHO KEEP US ON A SYSTEM LIKE A RETAINER AND WE NEED TO SERVICE THEM." Atlantic is a serious company, with good people- both professionally and personally. I compared quotes from several companies, to replace a gas fired steam boiler in an old house. I chose Atlantic since they were available to do it with no delays, and their price was competitive. The teamwork was impressive, they came well organized and equipped, their conduct was efficient and professional, and they did a beautiful job. They also took care of pulling a permit and followed up with inspections as necessary. The installation was in the summer, and it took several months until we realized we had a problem. Some of the radiators in the house remained cold and there was loud banging from the steam pipes. I contacted Atlantic and they responded quickly. They came, examined and tested the system, did what they could with no additional charges, but did not solve the problem. They concluded the problem was the old pipes in the walls, and said we needed to break walls and dismantle some kitchen cabinets, in order to replace the pipes. That was very unpleasant news, and did not seem reasonable, since the system had worked well with the previous steam boiler. It took me a while to find another company to examine the system again. I paid them separately, and was relieved when they solved the problem by bleeding the system: draining water and releasing air while the boiler was running, and with the air vents removed from the problematic radiators. The system has been working well (knock on wood), and the only issue is that we had to disable to automatic water feeder, because it kept adding water too often, and problems occurred again when the water level was too high. So I'll have to monitor the water level and adjust manually once a few weeks. Atlantic deserves credit for their good will, responsibility and professional conduct. There aren't many good companies out there, some contractors rip you off and disappear, others do not even bother returning your calls or replying to emails. Atlantic is great in many ways, and the only reason I can't give them 5 stars is the issue I described. But even that does not mean they do not understand steam systems, because those systems really are tricky, especially in old homes. Bottom line- I recommend this company :-) read more

Since Atlantic installed our hot water heater and furnace 2 years ago, we've had several frustrating issues with the equipment, but Atlantic has never given up. We've had a few miscommunications about when they'd be able to service our equipment but when we expressed our sincerest concerns, they made sure their folks showed up. For the most recent visit, the tech was very respectful and explained some aspects of the equipment to me. It has only been a few days since that last visit, but so far so good. read more

This is my second positive experience with Atlantic. We had them completely replace our crappy baseboard installation with forced-air heating and cooling. Unlike other contractors we called, they were willing to work with us to design a system that would fit into our house unobtrusively without taking away too much floor space. They're big enough to get the job done, but small enough to work with you on what you need. We just had them add a humidifier to the system, since it gets a bit dry in the winter, and they did a good job with that. They do tend to get busy in the summer, so I agree with other reviewers that they could maybe add an extra office person to make sure that loose ends get tied up, and that customers get a call back, even if it takes some time to schedule the actual installation. But the installation always goes smoothly; Al is a great foreman. read more

We've used Atlantic Heating & AC for many years and wouldn't consider any other company. Atlantic is extremely responsive, priced reasonably, and they always do a great job. We've never once had to call them back to resolve any issues associated with their work, and they've done a lot of work over for us over the last 9 years. Recently, our water heater died very suddenly; I came home from my office and water was leaking out of the water heater onto the basement floor. Within minutes, their service manager was guiding me over the phone regarding which valves to turn off etc. and he had me take a few pics to send to him. The very next day, a serviceman was at our house installing a brand new, much better water heater than the house had come with, and we haven't had an issue yet, and this was several months ago. I'm a Realtor and Atlantic has bailed my seller clients out of HVAC issues on a moment's notice, so I will always be grateful for the excellent sales and service that we receive thanks to Atlantic Heating and AC. read more

Professional liars and ripoff artists. 1.They don't show up when they say they will. 2. They charge $150 for a "preview visit". 3. They give you incorrect information and push for an installation of a unit that is not a good solution. 4. The solution they recommend costs twice as much as other plumbers even if you have other plumbers perform an identical installation. Evidently BBB has complaints about them too. read more

I called and had someone come out to give us an assessment of our system to see if any improvements could be made. They gave me a few options but ultimately advised me that the cost would have outweighed the benefits of improvements and advised me not to spend the money. I really appreciated the honesty and although we did not end of having them do any work it was clear that they were honest and professional. We will definitely call on them again if we need help with our current system. It is rare to find service companies that still put the customers' best interests over financial gains. read more

We obtained 4 quotes for a new HVAC system. The Atlantic rep was pleasant when he came to our home. BUT the quote he sent over was for a single stage system when our home needs a 2 stage system. PLUS the product he recommended is a discontinued model and parts are difficult, if not near impossible to get so would be awful for future issues. To top it off, the rep addressed emails to my husband when he has never spoken to or met my husband. Chauvinistic and sketchy. No thanks. read more
