I am so angry at this business (if you even call it a "business" for that matter) my blood is literally boiling at this time. I have heard stories from a few local people over this past year about this place and the koi purchased were in poor health but after reading the crap posted on their facebook page of them and several other individuals downright bullying and flat destroying another person who has been selling   koi for over25 years and whom I happen to know very well as I have bought some of my best koi from him. after driving down to Bakersfield  yesterday in hopes of buying a few koi, and could not find him, One young lady in the west part of Bakersfield  shared with me that this wonderful guy located near SR 58 west of downtown Bakersfield had been bullied and harassed so bad by several people involved with this kern Koi Fish thing to the point that he just gave up and closed down after started experiencing heart problems from the stress brought on by these people's relentless bullying of him and even threatened him and a few other members of his family on social media. I decided to look into this myself and what i found made me very sick to my stomach that I actually threw up: I found at least 2 posts on Kern Koi Fish's facebook page where the owner of kern Koi Art Perez and several others are   just flat out bullying, slandering, belittling and literally killing this poor guy and when i investigated even further I learned from another local that one of the participants making bullying comments in the post (A female individual by the name of George) is apparently a neighbor living near the guy's home and has been harassing him for quite some time. All being said I am just enraged and sick over this and I will say not only will I not recommend Kern Koi Fish but beg of anyone and everyone to never buy anything from them, ever! Cyber bullying is a very serious and unacceptable.  I would never buy koi or anything else period from someone who acts like that!  and on final thought I just hope my friend has the courage to come back and again sell more of the great koi I so much desire but I don't think that will happen anytime soon I was told that he is pretty sick now from all the stress and is having heart trouble and may have to spend some time in a hospital. Update to Review: We filed a small claims court case related to Arthur's work. On December 15, 2025, the court ruled in our favor and ordered Arthur pay a settlement to us in the amount of $3,075. As of the date of this update, the amount ordered by the court has not been paid, and we have not even received a response to our messages from Arthur regarding payment. Based on our experience, I advise against using this business and recommend that anyone considering it- carefully document all work, agreements, and payments. You can see our original review below. Original Review I cannot and will not recommend this business. We hired Arthur to resurface our koi pond and perform related work, including plumbing and air lines. Per our written contract and text messages, we agreed to empty and clean the pond to save on cost, and Arthur was responsible for properly prepping, sanding, and applying the epoxy. Less than three months after completion, the epoxy began peeling and chipping. When we contacted Arthur, he dismissed our concerns by saying the pond already had "4-5 layers of sealant," which didn't make sense--if that were true, why apply epoxy at all? He then blamed us, claiming the failure was because we emptied and cleaned the pond ourselves, even though our agreement clearly stated that he would handle the surface preparation. Instead of addressing the problem, he made excuses and questioned the purchase date of the epoxy we provided--something he never raised as a concern before or during application. He later stated that he does not warranty or guarantee his work. While his contract doesn't mention a warranty, it also doesn't release him from responsibility for poor workmanship. Other aspects of the job raised concerns. He brought his young son to help apply the epoxy, and his proposed solution for the air lines we paid for was visually unacceptable. We told him to skip that part of the work, but he did not offer a refund and kept the money charged for the air lines. We paid promptly, did much of the heavy work ourselves to make the job easier, and gave him multiple chances to make things right. Instead, he ignored our concerns and blamed us. Very cool open floor store. Large selection of fish species. Cichlids, koi, nano fish , etc. Fish rescue, even besides that I wanted to give a shout out to their medicated food. People spend $$$ on herbal/chemicals for sick fish. But it usually doesn't work at all. Because the fish needs to ingest it. So I tried food pictured on some sick cichlids I received and it worked well. So, I now use in my cichlids regular diet and the only food fed to new fish in quarantine. Arturo installed a filtration system in our large koi pond. The ease of maintenance and improvement in water quality make the investment well worth it! Arturo installs a cool modification to the filter system which uses a shop vac to churn the filter as part of the cleaning process. Great service and great work! read more
