I was getting ready to write my Yelp review for Kershaw & Associates, Inc. and another review popped up. I realize everyone has different experience and their points are valid, but I have never had that experience or heard from other clients that I have referred. I can only say positive things about the Company and will continue to refer clients. Last year after the April 17th deadline they had to move offices because their lease was up, and I give them cudos for that; they did it in two days and was back up and running. Alan Kershaw the founder of the company passed away and that was a hard blow, but Dawn who bought the business and worked alongside him for 10 years is very knowledgeable and keeps the same values that he had. Cindy has been with the company for 22 years and I think that says a lot about a company. This isn't initially what I was going to say, but I felt like I needed to respond. Sure, they get busy and say they will try and have your taxes out within 2-3 weeks, but sometimes unforeseen things happen, and clients get pushed back a little further, but it doesn't reflect on all the good work they do and the knowledge. I think their good works outweighs the experiences that some perceive to have had. read more

My father recommended Alan Kershaw to me -- what? Over 15 years ago? Back when I first went into business for myself as a solo freelance professional. Ever since, I have increasingly valued the value of Kershaw & Assoc. in helping me to keep my business running. I'm not the most organized guy around, and I'm frankly horrible about tracking paperwork and financial stuff. Alan and his team have always shown me the highest levels of patience and courtesy. Like any good tax team, they're not cheap, but the time they save me -- never mind the benefits that come with having someone expertly versed in tax laws and opportunities helping to prepare my information -- amounts to far more every year than I could ever hope to achieve by doing it myself or going to some mass produced filing outfit. Like other reviewers, I found Jane through a gushing referral who has been getting her taxes done with Kershaw & Assoc for over 10 years. Everyone I interacted with last year: Jane, Cindy and Devin, were wonderful! They were also very patient which is saying something because I am one of those "throw any envelopes that look remotely tax-related into a shoebox (sometimes unopened), then leave said shoebox outside the office, ring the doorbell and run away" types. I am *horrible* with finances. They make me itch and every time I have to deal with them I get incredibly ancy, some might even say annoying. Jane, Alan, and the entire staff have been taking care of my needs for 12 years. They always do a great job, are very detail oriented, and they give me suggestions and advice along the way so I can do better for yourself. My sister told me about them and she heard about them from someone else. Since then, I have recommended them to several people and even had them take care of my Mom when we moved her to the Pacific Northwest in 2008. Preparing her estate taxes was a real challenge. They are incredible people. Very honest, very professional (and a little bit Portland quirky). They give honest assessments of your taxes plus tax/lifestyle advice. I typically use turbo tax but I had a couple of older years of taxes I had to file after a tax audit and I needed professional help. Dawns knowledge and confidence made me feel relieved and confident too. She also told me about the kicker year which I didn't know about and after I filed I got several more hundred dollars back than I thought I would! Her efficiency and timeliness rocked.
