When I was a teenager I tried an Indian dish and didn't like it. I spent the rest of my life, until now, assuming I wouldn't like anything else and avoided Indian food completely. After my AMAZING experience at Kesar last night, I am kicking myself for not trying Indian cuisine sooner! We learned about this restaurant while it was still under construction after visiting their spa neighbor. My husband has always liked Indian food and has begging me to go for a while. We wanted to go somewhere new for dinner and I decided to surprise him and take him here. We arrived when they first opened for dinner at 5pm and we're promptly greeted and sat at a booth. The restaurant is clean, well decorated and I especially liked the water feature when you first walk in. We were provided menus and water in their fancy glasses. We received complimentary puffed pasta (I think that's what it was) with two different dips. As an appetizer we ordered the tandoori sampler, a plain and a garlic naan and the cucumber/onion/tomato salad. The platter and naan with various chutneys were delicious. We will definitely order them again. The salad had fresh veggies but was super plain. While it was good, I probably would just get something different in future. I ordered the chicken jalfrazia (mild) as my entree while my husband ordered the chicken tikka masala (Indian - hot). Both were served with rice. I believe most of the entrees can be ordered from mild to Indian hot with about five total options. Mine was perfect since I don't like spicy too much. As dessert we had the mango mousse (I forgot what it was called on the menu). Every single thing we ordered and ate was delicious and I would get again. The presentation of each plate was very nice and the staff was very helpful with any questions we had. They noted that they will be having another grand opening in the near future when they officially receive their liquor license. They will also have outdoor seating. Overall (2.25/5) - Rare that I have to give 2 stars but my experience was very below average. (Drinks 0.25/1) It started with the drinks. We ordered strawberry and chocolate milkshake along others but these two milkshakes were very watery and more like flavored skim milk than milkshake. My daughter pretty much left it untouched after trying a little bit so I took a sip and I agreed with her decision. (Food 1/3) For starters, we had the Dahi Puri, Aloo Tikki Chaat, Chili Paneer and Veg Hakka Noodles. To start with the good parts, the Chili Paneer was just okay. It was bit sour which alone would be fine but it was overly oily, and that theme continues rest of the meal. The veg Hakka noodles were super oily and bland. After sharing the noodles with the table, we were left with a bowl of oily liquid at the end. But it was still edible. I can't say the same about the potato tikki chaat we had. The tikki seemed raw from inside as I could taste flour along with the potato. It's a shame because the rest of the chaat was actually balanced well between sour and sweet. We ended up finishing just the Chhole and chaat mix and leaving the tikki alone. Rounding out the appetizers was the Dahi puri. I can say that it was not bad as rest of the apps. It had a spicy aftertaste which we didn't mind but the "meetha" part of the dish was lacking in it. For the main course with had the Patiala Paneer with Shahi Paneer and Bhaturas. The patiala paneer was actually alright and we enjoyed the broad flavor profile it carried. Individual marinated spices were coming through nicely onto the paneer and peppers. However, Shahi paneer was more like paneer bhurji. The paneer was all smashed and again filled with extra oil. I was expecting a nice Shahi smooth curry base along with perfectly textured paneer but what we got was more of double fried bhurji curry. Bhatura was decent, no comments there. (Decor 0.75/1) It's a shame that the food didn't match the great decor they had inside. There is plenty of space to even have a private party. They can do with some extra light though in the center, it looked weird to have just some lights. But the walls are nicely decorated with carved wood panels that pay homage to Indian historical sites. (Service 0.25/1) Another thing that was a bit different was that we were guided not to order certain things. But the recommended items instead weren't that great. For example, we initially asked for another app but was told that don't go for that, rather try the aloo tikki chaat which came out raw. Similarly I wanted to try Paneer Karhai but was guided to get the Shahi Paneer dish. If someone recommends me not to get something, I wouldn't order it for sure. Overall this place has lots of potential but it didn't hit the notes for me and my family. If they make some changes, I would like to give them another chance. read more

Tried Kesar Indian Food and honestly... that lamb with mango sauce stole the show I'd go back just for that! The golgappa shots were fun to try, but not really my thing, and the goat curry was just okay. The space is big, clean, and has a nice vibe. Went for lunch after dropping off family at the airport. They have a buffet for lunch. Everything was tasty. They served fresh Naan at the table and we had a hot tea. The server Razat was very nice and told us about their VALENTINE's day specials for couples featuring a 4 course meal. The place is clean but is a bit drafty. read more

My coworker told me the weekend lunch buffet at this new-ish Indian restaurant was good, so we decided to check it out for a weekday lunch. They have a nice variety of different chicken and vegetarian options. All good quality- my favorites were the mango chicken, hot naan, and the veggie pakora. At $20, the price point is a bit high for me to do regularly for a week day lunch, but would consider it as an occasional splurge. read more

I stopped here during a work visit searching for a place not too far from the hotel after a LONG day of work. I loved the feature of being able to order online to really peruse the menu and order simultaneously. I ordered the paneer makhani as my main, the aloo paratha, gobi manchurian (one of my all time faves so had to try it here), and a mango lassi all in the hopes of making it last a few different meals. WOW did it deliver in that. They even threw in a rice pudding free of charge! The paneer makhani allowed for the selection of spice level, and I went pretty safe with the "medium" level. I do wish I would've gone a little spicier but the flavor was great and there was a lot of paneer in the dish. It came with a huge serving of rice, too. The gobi was INCREDIBLE. After such a long, really tough day, sitting down to eat some of this almost brought me to tears! Great spice level, tons of veggies, amazing flavor in the sauce. The aloo paratha also had a tasty flavor. I probably would've been just as happy with a garlic naan, however. The mango lassi had great flavor, with a little bit of the yogurt flavor still present-it wasn't too sweet at all so it was great to put in the fridge and drink the next morning! Went here for lunch with my daughter. Under this new management, the place looks cleaner and very inviting. The attendant was very friendly and even gave my daughter a complimentary glass of mango lassi after we told that it was her favorite drink. The mango lassi was delicous, the sweetness was perfect for me, but my daughter said it's missing just a tad sweetness to it, but still liked it. The buffet line was not busy at all, clean and food seems fresh. Went for the biryani, goat curry, some aloo. The taste is amazing, feels like freshly cooked. Spice level is up to par and still flavorful. The staff is very attentive amd professional. Highly recommended. Hands down, this one is better than the down the road. Will come back soon! read more

We went in hungry and ready to order "safe" because most places either overpromise or everything tastes the same once the sauce hits the plate. Not here. From the jump the service was impeccable--we were greeted, seated, and actually taken care of the entire time without the awkward "where's our server?" disappearing act. Drinks stayed filled, food came out paced right, and nobody had to do the arm-waving routine to get help. Imagine that. Now the food... we ordered enough to basically run a taste test: * Veggie samosas: crispy, hot, seasoned right, and not greasy. The type you keep reaching for even when you swore you were "saving room." * Tandoori sampler: this is where you find out if a place is serious. The flavor was legit, the char was on point, and nothing tasted like it came off a steam table. * Butter chicken: smooth, rich, and balanced--comfort food without being a sugar bomb. * Masala: layered spice, real depth, and the sauce is the kind you're going to chase with whatever bread/rice is on the table. * Coastal curry shrimp: easily one of the best bites of the night. Was so excited to come here for date night last night. We were sat in a back corner and no one greeted us/took our order for about 30 minutes. I ordered a chai and our appetizer/entrees and waited about another 30 minutes with no one but the person refilling water checking on us. The food finally came out with no apology at all and was sub-par to say the least. We mentioned something when paying the bill and all the person said was "we are understaffed". They did not offer to remove anything from the bill or even an apology. I would not recommend unfortunately. read more

As a lover of Indian foods, buffets in particular, we decided to give Kesar a try. Since our old place of Little Indian café in glen bunie stopped their buffet, we've been looking for a new home base. Most places are in Columbia or ellicott city, so we were excited to try out one closer to home. The place looks absolutely amazing. It has the "new restaurant" feel to it, everything is immaculate and well thought out. It was mostly empty with only a few other families there. There was some sticker shock starting with the drinks. $4 for a pop or $5 for a juice/mango lassie. Yowza!!! As we sat we were asked if we wanted water with ice or without. We asked for ice water. When we went back to the table, no ice. Normally not a huge deal, but it was here. All of the food wat SPICY! Not just a little spicy, but extremely so. If that spice level is any indication, they might want to consider leaving water at the table. At one point ALL of our glasses were empty because we were gulping down water so fast. So be warned, if you have a sensitivity to spiciness, this is NOT the place for you. I dare say it's the spiciest Indian buffet I've been to, and it's probably at least my 10th. They cook the Naan fresh and bring it to the table which was nice. It helped to cut down on the spice to some extent. The price was more than we were expecting. had a hankering for some Indian Cuisine and while checking Google Maps, I found a new option. We finally stopped for the Buffet today and I was not disappointed. I had the Butter Chicken, Tandoori Chicken, salad and other dishes (We am not an Indian food expert so doing a Buffet is ideal for us). The dishes were very flavorful, moist and seasoned well. It had just the right about of heat for me. The service could not have been better and the Decor is pleasing. Absolutely amazing experience! The food was outstanding, especially the lamb biryani, which was perfectly seasoned, tender, and full of authentic flavor. You can truly taste the care and expertise that goes into every dish. The mango lassi is a must-try -- it's clearly prepared fresh daily and is incredibly smooth, refreshing, and flavorful. One of the best I've had. Beyond the food, the hospitality really stands out. The owners are incredibly friendly, welcoming, and genuine gentlemen who clearly take pride in their restaurant and their customers' experience.
