Having been here before and trying the gigantic Maharaja Thali with my cousins, I was excited to bring my wife to get a smaller thali. Pani Poori- 6 pcs - these were tasty though the chutney was more like syrup. The water used came out in a small bottle which was cool. Crispy Baby Corn- great indochinese appetizer, the baby corn is lightly battered and fried then tossed in a sauce Soya Masala Curry- this was a flop. The tomato onion based curry lacked salt and spice and the actual soya pieces were too soft and mushy in texture. Wish these were a bit more dense as experienced in other restaurants. Roomali Roti- drown in ghee and it must have sat over a gas flame because it tasted of bad chemicals. Basically like eating the ghee-soaked cotton swabs from the candles at the local temple. Kathiyawadi Thali- the wife's dish- she enjoyed two if the items but this was not a great experience either. I was disappointed in the vast difference in quality between two visits. Imagine visiting a BestBuy and buying a duffel bag and no electronics? I visited this Thali place for the first time only to not have any of their speciality Thali meals instead have biryani and puris. The person who services us was very kind and helpful with the selections. I went here for lunch with some of our friends and family and after having had a heavy home breakfast and hence didn't have an appetite for the Thali meals. That's the same reason I didn't click a lot of pics like I would usually do. The vegetable biryani, SPDP chaat and puris with aloo subzi came in no time from the time we ordered. As much as the food was tasty I found them bit salty and the subzi little oily - this coming from a salt lover who tends to add salt to anything he eats, you can trust me. We came here from out of state to visit a relative in a nearby hospital. Came here based on the great reviews. We were seated and took a look at the menu and noticed that it's a strictly vegetarian restaurant. Big oops but luckily for us vegetarian Indian food is the absolute best. My son is a bit picky and vegetable aversive so he just got the fries. I ordered the Amritsari kulchi Thali and hubby ordered the Punjabi Thali. Both were delicious. Mine came with 2 of the main dishes while the Punjabi one comes with 4. The spinach dish was very fragrant. Not sure what that put in it but it was hard for us to finish. Not bad. Just a bit overwhelming. The paneer makhni was so delicious. I could eat that everyday. My aloo stuffed bread was heavenly. It promoted me to try the paneer filled bread (which came out from the kitchen literally 2 minutes after we flagged down our waiter) but I think that the potato/aloo one was better. My chai was perfect. We left full and satisfied with our little mistake. Plenty of parking because of the location in the strip mall. Lots of happy customers dining in. Clean bathroom. Fast and friendly service. I wish there was a spot like this closer to home. If you live near Edison give this place a shot. You'll barely miss the meat! read more

I rarely give a 5 and this place deserves it . I thought of giving a 4 , because the service was a bit slow , but the food taste insisted me to give 5/5 ... and the price point is also good. Not too expensive , not to cheap. Average price . I'm not a big fan of their sweets though. We ordered amritsari Thali , Kesars special Thali and kulcha thali. All we ordered tasted good ... I have been to other kesar locations and I'm a big fan of their bahubali thali. Nice concept. My kids loved the food. Not too spicy byt right taste . Great service and traditional food. If you are American, specify your spice level. They may not ask and you'll get food without any spice. We were in town and were excited about finding a huge Indian population. We knew it meant we could find really good spicy, authentic, Indian food., Out of care and concern, they served the American version but it was a O spice level. I wish they asked because my boyfriend literally puts ghost peppers on his sandwich. Tried the Maharaja Thali on occassion of Gudi Padwa on a Tuesday in April. Couple of good flavorful items on the platter and some were a hard miss. Shared between 4, the plate was full but nothing that we couldn't finish at the first glance. The best was the chole bhature that were spot on. deliciousness at peak! Pav bhaji was worst, the pav being too greasy and the bhaji was like any other bhaji that could be. Methi gota was crunchy and so so good! The few other Gujurati style bhaji were decent but a big bowl of sabudana khichdi was disappointing. The basket of naan were impressive and came in varieties. The plain yogurt raita with no vegetables in it did not make sense to me. There was only one dessert served gulab jamun, why(?). Went this weekend specifically to try their Maharaja Thali and it sure did not disappoint! What an amazing vegetarian feast - includes 30 items from subzi to naan, rice and even dessert! Really great restaurant with an awesome variety of 100% Vegetarian Thalis. I highly recommend their Kesar Special Thali along with their Papdi Chaat Thali! They let you share plates and honestly 1 thali with saabzis would suffice 2 people, you may just have to order another separate Naan. Visited Edison for some Indian shopping and stopped her for a quick lunch. It was the typical, bustling good Indian cafe atmosphere, and We waited ~20mins for a table which is always a good sign. Once seated the service is fast and food fresh. We had a chaat thali, Punjabi thali with poori, and an Amritsar thali. The accompanying curries, chick pea, dhal, paneer and saag (spinach) were tasty and went well with the naans, poori and rice. Tremendous Thali options. Finding a place with multiple Thalis to choose from is rare. They also had a Thali of multiple chaats which we have never seen but it is great way to experience your favorite Indian snacks. We have only had the Thalis but everything was delicious. The thali concept is very unique & fun! I ordered the Gurajati thali & my husband got the katiyavadi one. All the dishes were homestyle - vrry flavorful without being greasy or creamy. When we visited, one of the sabzis that came in the katiyavadi thali was undhiu (a Gujarati speciality dish, not available in most restaurants)! I also really liked the extensive mithai (sweets) stall. The one I tried (kesar cham cham) was pretty good. The only reason I didn't give a 5 star review is because the food was a little spicy for my taste. I can handle an average amount of spice, so it was bearable, but it would have been nice if they gave options on the spice level. My husband thought the spice level was fine, so most people who enjoy medium-to-hot food would love it. read more

We went to Kesar's for dinner . Ambience was good. The restaurant was crowded. We ordered a kid's thali , it came with 2 Indian curries, naan , papad , raita and a sweet which was good. Only issue is one curry was potato, I would think it would be better to have something else. We ordered the vegetable cutlet sizzler . The sizzler was good , could have been a little more cooked . We also offered a pav bhaji. Pav bhaji was really not good. Butter used is salted and bhaji was tasteless. We ordered paratta twins , the gobhi paratha . Paratha was soft and good. Visited with family today. Our first visit. The appetizers included spring rolls, raj kachori, samosa chaat and idli vada combo. All tasted good. The sambar was a little too spicy for our palate. For the entree we tried the plain dosa, rava masala dosa and rumali roti with soya chaap. All were good, the sambar notwithstanding, as being spicy. Great service. Good food. We ordered poori with potato subzi. It was very good. The chaat thaali was ok. The gol gappa poori was a bit hard. The roomali roti was a little disappointing. Spent a Friday evening there with the family. We wanted to try maharaja thali but staff asked us to order more food in order to eat thali. They did not provide any service to us and also asked us to order more food for our kids. We told them we can not eat this much food but that didn't care. At the end they added 18% tip o their own to our bill. We told them we are not happy with the service but they did not care. Be careful of how much you are paying at the place. read more
