I have been coming to this dentist office for nearly half a century. The most compassionate, honest, and wonderful dental office in the world. That's right, not just LA, not just California, the WORLD. Dr. Komatsu is an amazing person, it's not often that one wished they knew their dentist better... but you can tell from the moment you walk in to Dr. Komatsu's office that this is a special place. My family has been coming to this office for over 70 years. While the founder was an amazing dentist, when he sold his practice he managed to find someone even better, which was no small feat. And of course with that dentist came an incredible team. Dr. Komatsu will settle for nothing but the best. A lot of people are nervous to go to the dentist, and I suffer from extreme anxiety... when Dr. Komatsu's hygienist left a few years ago I was so anxious to get a cleaning that I put it off far too long (COVID didn't help) but that was so unneeded... everyone at this office is the BEST. A dentist with 5 stars on Yelp? How rare is that... you know it's legitimate. I am so grateful to Dr. Komatsu and his amazing team, I drive for almost an hour to come here because Floyd Dewhurst and Louise Dewhurst were very good but Dr. Komatsu has taken it to a whole new level... I know to some it may seem strange to say a dentist office feels like "home", but truly, I've been coming here since the 1970's, and this place is special. I do NOT like going to the dentist, who does?!?!? I am so grateful I found Dr. Komatsu many years ago. I should have written this review a decade ago when I had to have emergency work done (of course on the weekend) and he and his staff including his daughter who was 10 at the time, had to hang with me for hours to take care of what needed to be done. He has been my dentist ever since. He is the most gentle, compassionate, and honest dentist I have ever experienced, and very meticulous. And I'm older, in my 60's. I love that he explains what exactly he is doing, when doing it. Really relieves the anxiety. And I agree with Jonathan W. The best quality care around. I've been going to this dentist office my entire life, and I'm nearing 50. Dr. Komatsu has been my dentist for most of that time, as he took the practice over in the 90's I believe. Anyhow, he is wonderful, his care is obvious in every conversation or procedure and his expertise is exceptional and his experience is immense. He is committed to caring for each tooth so that it has the longest and strongest life possible. I know that sounds funny, but I think it's true. Dr. Komatsu, his assistant Martha, and the entire staff were so wonderful to me today. I went in with extreme desperation, a broken molar that had caused me pain and discomfort and seemed light years away and many thousands of dollars from having an immediate resolution, was resolved within the hour of my arrival at the office. Dr. Komatsu was gentle and kind, and I couldn't have asked for a better appointment. And it was the complete opposite cost wise from my greatest fears--beyond reasonable. My first visit here was on SUNDAY (yes, a day where most every office is closed). To give you a bit of a back story here is what happened. I've been in DESPERATE need of a root canal for about two years now and because I cannot afford one my molar completely broke off piece by piece yet i still had pieces of my molar deep inside my gums. For two years I was suffering with tooth pain on and off until this past Sunday it got unbearable. I was literally on the couch crying of pain knowing that I would not be able to get to a dentist til the following day. I could not wait. Well a friend of mine recommended Dr Komatsu and gave me the number to call. I called and nobody picked up HOWEVER the answering machine gave an option to leave a message and page the Dr if it was an emergency. So I left a message. Not even 5 minutes later I got a call from Dr. Komatsu who agreed to meet with me in about 30 minutes. Seriously, He sounded so understanding over the phone and the fact that he and his wife Dr Irine Sims dropped what they were doing to go help me was something i never expected from anyone. I wholeheartedly appreciated it. About 30 minutes later they showed up at their practice and took me in. They were still dressed in their biking gear and apologized for their attire (It didnt bother me one bit I was just grateful they came at such a short notice). After the x-rays they explained they would have to extract the remainder of my molar. It had gotten so bad that I had an infection and sacks of pus around those pieces of tooth. Dr Komatsu and Dr Sims both worked extremely quick efficiently and meticulously. When the procedure was done they gave me a post-surgery care paper all typed up along with a prescription, mouth wash, and gauze and urged me to come back to see them should anything seem odd after the procedure. Well I have to say I AM VERY IMPRESSED WITH THIS DENTIST!!! Too many times I've been to dentists where all they care about is how much money they can cheat you out of and still do a terrible job. Well not this power couple!! They were very understanding of my financial situation and my suffering with tooth pain. Needless to say I FOUND MY NEW DENTIST!!! Dr Komatsu and Dr Sims definitely went into that field because they care for people and sincerely want to help. THANK YOU Dr Komatsu and Dr Sims for putting an end to my tooth pain of more than 2 years. What you guys did for me this past Sunday MEANS THE WORLD TO ME. Thank you!! I love you both!! Dr. Irene Sims is my dentist of the last 5 or 6 years. She is fantastic. She and her husband own their dental practice in West LA. I went to her on a recommendation after receiving lousy service from one of those 1-(800) DENTIST providers who used cheap cleaning supplies and kept my mouth in discomfort with their shoddy service. Dr. Sims however KNOWS WHAT SHE'S DOING!! My wife and son now go to her too (and we don't even live very close, but she's THAT good). The whole staff are always professional, organized and courteous. When I moved to the Westside, I needed to find a new dentist and on a few recommendations, I started seeing Dr. Louise Dewhirst. She was so kind and compassionate and I was deeply saddened when she announced she would be moving to the East Coast. She sold the practice to Dr. Kevin Komatsu and Dr. Irine Sims. Although they were both equally good, I chose to see Dr. Komatsu. Dr. Komatsu turned out to be a God-send. Like Dr. Dewhirst, Dr. Komatsu is kind, compassionate and caring, but unlike any doctor I have ever met, he was also PAINLESS!! He is so caring that he calls after every major procedure he performs. He makes sure you are not having too much discomfort. In fact, I just had an emergency extraction a week ago and he sent me home with prescription for pain medication, medicated mouth rinse, and detailed instructions for after surgical care. I NEVER had to take even one of the prescription medication -- regular Tylenol was enough for the pain and swelling. Even though I no longer live in West L.A., I don't mind having to drive much further to Dr. Komatsu's practice from the South Bay. Dr. Komatsu also has an equally wonderful staff -- in fact, many have been there from at least 25 years ago when I first met them when they worked for Dr. Dewhirst. I love all of them and wouldn't switch from this practice for the world -- Esther, Espy, Martha and Sae...you rock!!! I would give you all 100 stars if I could!! I wish I can give them ten stars! I phoned them in early morning to make an appointment for my husband. Esther who arrange an appointment is friendly and smart and professional. I phoned three times at the same day in order to rearrange bookings with Dr. Komatsu as my husband's pain became unbearable hour by hour. And on top of that he is getting panicky since he has to fly next day for four days business trip. She took care of it very efficiently and friendly. I was very grateful for that. Because I felt like being a pain. Luckily Dr. Komatsu took him in spite of his busy schedule in the afternoon. I thought they are very compassionate and empathy towards the patients in pain. Toothache is one of the worst thing, everybody will agree on it. Dr. Komatsu performed root canal on the spot so he can go to business trip next day. And the cherry on the top is Dr. Komatsu made a follow-up call that evening(just before 9pm). That phone call was so helpful as my husband was a bit confused with medications. I'm just blown away by their team- works and care and professionalism. Of course, next day Esther follow up and rearrange an appointment to fit better for my husband's schedule.
