I back up all my files, but got a little lazy and had some current stuff that was on a 5TB usb backup drive that failed. Got some outrageous quotes and timelines from a lot of different companies. I did not know what services were available, but when I found Kevin's in San Clemente, I said....hey, local so will try them. They did not guarantee success but if no success would not cost me. 2 stars because they were pleasant and fairly quick (less than 24 hours) to look at my husbands computer. The negative is you are charged for them to look at it. There are other places that diagnose for free. Normally not a big deal because you get to apply that to the fix, but they gave me the computer back saying there was nothing they could do. So lost the 50.00. The kicker is we took it to my brother in law who works in IT and he fixed it in about 30 min. :( So, bottom line-it was fixable and they didn't know how to fix it. My laptop was brazenly stolen in the lobby at the Hotel Arts in Barcelona this summer. Not everything was backed up in the Cloud. (Yes, I know...lesson learned.) Most importantly, baby through grade school photos of my son (pre-iPhone) were presumably lost. However, I was able to dig out an old PC that had a corrupted hard drive after being infected by a virus. Well...I brought my old PC to Kevin's and these guys were able to successfully extract my photos. What a relief! 100% recovery in about 24 hours. Everyone at Kevin's was courteous, helpful, and not remotely condescending as some in the tech business can be. From my first inquiry by phone to drop off, call back, and pick up, it could not have gone better. Special shout-out to Anthony for his warm welcome and assurances. After service, I received an email from the owner checking in to see if I was satisfied. The shop in San Clemente is bright, spacious, and well organized. I thought the amount charged was fair, especially when one considers overhead, technical expertise, etc. that goes into doing this type of work. I suppose I could have saved money by purchasing my own Seagate 2TB external drive, but when they offered to supply one, I decided to buy from them strictly as a matter of convenience. My laptop suffered the black screen of death after puppy bit charger cord in 1/2 and I replaced with Amazon ordered cheap one due to needing in a hurry! Yikes so I called Kevin's! Kevin's Computer Service/San Clemente is the "real deal". My gratitude to John and Anthony for careful assessment and a conclusion vastly different than HP customer support. Traveling in Orange County (from Chicago) and my laptop PC goes down. Check power supply and it seems, for some reason, power is not getting into the system. Call HP and they ask several question and conclude a Mother Board repair is called for. Cost for that work, $727.64. When I point out the device is only 18 months old, they drop that price to $582.11. I arrive at John and Anthony's shop, after a quick assessment they conclude that the supply problem is in the power cable. They offer to charge my device and send me on my way. I had a start issue with my Dell all-in-one PC. I have used the BB "Geeks" in the past. They're usually un-friendly and un-accessible. I request a Yelp quote and Kevin contacted me within an hour. Their $50 service fee was fair, and would be applied to any needed repair. So I went to the San Clemente location on Thursday afternoon. It turned out to be a bigger problem than could be fixed, but I was offered a great deal on a refurbished all-in-one. I took their offer and my home office was "back in business" on Monday. Totally amazing service! I lost my business account on Instagram the other day and I tried to fix it, tried to contact Instagram to no avail.
