Well . I walked in at noon when there are 2 staff standing right at the front door just stared at me with out asking me that [ can I help you ?] with out a smile like usual business. I've to asked them back that can I have a hair cut ? One guy just said Yes & wave his hand . Ok I really am need a hair cut , so I sat down . The guy was stink & so rude . They keep speaking in Spanish that called me CHINO . He shaved my head & left me with blood & brutal cut . Guy didn't do what I asked and gave me a terrible haircut. At the end of the haircut he shaved my neck line and side burns with a straight razor with no shaving cream, scraping my skin and giving me razor burn and cuts. Then the wipe that's supposed to smell nice and feel cool felt super good at the end when he wiped it all over my fresh wounds he gave me. Ended and was charged $25 for a bad haircut and wounds that still burn the day after. Can live with a bad haircut but if ur gonna not use shaving cream or take care don't use a straight razor! read more

Kev's barbershop needs better quality control of their barbers. My barber couldn't understand what i was trying to say. I wanted to get a taper fade with a comb over. I specified the length I wanted for my fade, and where I wanted the fade to begin and end. The barber spent more time talking to other barbers than approaching me with small talk. I understand the need to chit chat and have fun, but it felt like a complete 30 minute long conversation between barbers while i was getting my hair cut. At one point, i felt like asking the barber if he could speed up the hair cut and talk a little bit less. The fade was decent and blended pretty well, however, the comb over left more to be desired. Barber didn't ask if i wanted a sharp line or a natural comb over, he went ahead and just did what he wanted. Too much hair was taken off the top. At one point, i felt like he was asking for other barbers on advice on how to cut asian hair, it felt very uncomfortable. Barber didn't ask how i wanted my side burns done, or the length of the side burns. I would recommend that Kev's barbershop have uniforms or at least shirts so i can distinguish the barbers from the customers. Would also recommend for their barbers to be more professional. read more

I walked in on a weekday morning about an hour after they opened. I should have walked right back out. Paying $17 pre-tip for a haircut at this place is absolutely ridiculous. The place was empty. I stood there for about 5 minutes before a woman emerged from the wooden saloon-type doors. "YOU NEED HAIRCUT?" She asked. I reluctantly agreed, debating whether I should also allow her to trim my beard (very glad I didn't). She proceeded to give me a hair chop and then to shave the back of my neck with a dull razor and no shaving cream. She may have used a very small amount of oil, but judging by the burn I still feel on my neck, I'm guessing she didn't. The place has a funky smell and an even funkier atmosphere. Men's barber shops should be clean, well-lit, and well-mirrored. This place is none of those things. She seemed ill-prepared to cut my hair, first just scissoring the top dry and then eventually going to retrieve and fill a spray bottle. When it was time to show me the damage she did, she spent 5 minutes retrieving and then washing(?) a hand mirror, and didn't even bother to turn the chair around to show me the back of my head. To be fair, I'm used to getting my hair cut by old male barbers in Bethesda (Westwood Shopping Center off River Rd). I'm guessing that you could add up all the years of experience of the male barbers I saw at Kev's and it wouldn't come close to the experience that just one of the old man barbers at my old shop had. I'll consider that it was my mistake to go on a weekday morning, perhaps when "Diego" or "Ray" were not working, perhaps I would have had better luck with one of the two male barbers who did eventually come in while my hair was being butchered by Ms. ClipperHands. Overall, not a good experience. I don't give one-star ratings unless a business really screws up, and that didn't happen here. It was definitely less than average, though, and $17 is expensive for a haircut in Springfield. I've had much better luck (and better prices) at the barber shop in Brookfield Plaza on Backlick ($13 pre-tip) or Pro Barber nearby on Brandon Ave ($14 pre-tip). Both places are cleaner, brighter, and will leave your neck feeling good rather than razor-burned. read more

I've been coming here for about a year and a half and this is definitely the best place for a haircut that I've ever been to. I drive 30 minutes out of my way to come here because it's worth it. Ask for Diego. He usually has people waiting for him so I recommend calling and setting up an appointment with him beforehand if possible. Diego takes his time and will hook you up with a great haircut, shape up, or whatever you need! If you are iffy just show up and scope it out to see how he does other people's hair. I've taken my two-year-old here twice for a cut and have been very happy both times. Prior to that I'd been driving to Arlington for a more "kid-friendly" salon, but desired something a little more than just a trim done with shears-- I wanted a barber that would actually "style" his hair with an up-to-date cut (and who had a little more experience with thick, curly hair). The first time I visited, one of the barbers greeted me at the door and asked how he could help me. I asked if they cut toddlers and he said they did. I asked him how long the wait was, and he said that it wasn't long and I'd probably be next. Sure enough, I my son was immediately seen and I was in and out in less than 20 minutes-- and that was on a Saturday afternoon! A young man by the name of Chris cut his hair and with the help of a translator gave my son the exact cut I was looking for. He also made sure to check with me before doing anything that I may not have wanted done on a two-year-old, such as using a straight-line razor or lining up the front (not sure if I'm describing that correctly as I know NOTHING about men's haircuts)! The second time (on Christmas Eve) was much more crowded and about a half-hour wait before I was seen, but all the chairs were full and they did a great job getting people in and out without sacrificing the quality of their cuts. A young man by the name of Jason cut my son's hair the second time and although he wasn't very talkative (and didn't come across as too friendly), he did an amazing job on my son's hair. The price both times was $15 pre-tip, which to some people is pretty high, but it was still less than what I paid at the barber in Arlington. If I had to say that one thing could be improved, it would be the cleanliness and just making sure the floors are swept after each cut. It also wouldn't be a bad idea to have nametags so you know who is cutting your hair. Other than that, I have no complaints-- I will definitely be back (and will hopefully have an opportunity to see the highly recommended Diego or Saul)! read more

On 3/20/18 I went to get my haircut. Unfortunately, my usual barber was not there (I don't know if he will return) I think his name was Adly. Im really picky about the people who cut my hair; in fear that they will mess up completely. It must have been my UNlucky day, because that's exactly what happened. A short "barber" with long wavy hair (his chair is 4th from Kev's) did a horrendous job that could've been avoided if he had simple communication with his customers(attempting to have the strong silent demeanour is not the type of customer service you give when you're a barber). I've been going to this shop for years...I'm pissed that I have to find a new barber...My job requires me to be infront of people at all times, I now have to rock this Bernie from sesame Street haircut until it grows out. read more

The shop is always the cleanest or the greatest atmosphere. But I am a touch and go kinda guy. I hate waiting, but I am willing to wait for a great cut. Truth is that I've fewer mediocre cuts here. I needed a new barber since moving to VA. I had the same barber in MD for like 5 years or more. I couldn't keep going to MD for a haircut though. So I checked where else? On the web. I saw some good reviews for this place so I decided to check it out. It's relatively close to me, over by Springfield Mall. And it's definitely a multi-cultural shop. On the night I went there were mostly latinos and black folks waiting for a cut. Well there was really only one black guy other than me. There were 3 barbers which is ok for a Wednesday. I imagine Friday is probably packed. Let it be known, that I am kind of picky about my hair. I was going to this barber in DC that a friend at work recommended, and he butchered my hair. My barber tonight was going to be Rod. How did I know his name? Because it's on the mirror behind him. After telling Rod how I like my hair (skin tight fade on the sides, and lightly trimmed on the top) he hooked me up. This guy has skills. I'm sure the other barbers there do also. They were taking their time with the latinos, edging them up nicely and all. Had a good little line waiting for them. I definitely will go back to have Rod hook me up. We show up 5 min early for our "appointment" only go find the guys just left for lunch and no idea when they will be back. My husband is on a tight schedule because he works 12 hours 7 days a week. I've always heard great things about this place. But it seems to have gone down hill. Why say you take appointments and have no one available.... This is a horrible shop to go to. I witnessed, the owner I believe since the barber called him Kev, call the baber a nigger. This is unacceptable. I'm going to make sure to tell the moms I know that have their sons go there as well as all my friends. I also heard him accuse the barber of abusing his son. All I witnessed was him ask his son to sit down. I found out that the barber is a single father who had an agreement with Kev's Barber that he could bring his son occasionally so that he could still work. These types of business owners that lie and use racial discrimination should be put out of business. The owner was completely unprofessional. If he had an issue with one of his barbers, he could have asked to speak with him away from customers. It made me feel very uncomfortable and was some racist bs. Always get a good cut from Diego, but since this is business I'm gonna be honest. He has a lot of customers but doesn't work on appointments which is frustrating. You can let him know you're coming in, you give a time and he confirms, but you still have to wait damn near 2 hours. Poor business practices. If he improves on actually taking customers in appointment order like a lot of other barbers do, especially if he knows they're a for sure appointment their time needs to be respected. After coming to kevs for over one year now, I can honestly say this has been my best experience! I drive all the way to Springfield from Herndon every week to get my beard lined up and I think it's well worth the drive. (I only speak for Diego in this review) He is the most down to earth person that actually cares for your satisfaction. In the past I've had to go over other barbers shapeups and fix my beard however Diego spends the time and makes sure the final result is perfection! I gave this establishment 2 stars only because service was fast and the barber in the 1st chair was friendly and helped us immediately . Unfortunately, the haircut done by Cristopher was terrible, he cut my sons hairline about an inch back when i asked for a simple line up and fade. To his defense, this could have been due to a language barrier and maybe i should have gotten someone to translate, but I really thought the terms fade and line/edge up were common terminology and he nodded his head like he understood what i was saying.
