We wanted to 1) see dolphins, 2) snorkel, 3) spend time at a remote sandbar, 4) anything else he recommended. We were able to accomplish all 4, and then some! We had a pod of dolphins swimming around and under our boat, which was amazing. We found a very shallow sandbar and decided to snorkel there, with our kids being young. We saw fish and found a large conch shell that our 6 y/o still talks about days later. We saw the remnants of a lighthouse in the middle of nowhere. And then ended the day watching the sun go down. Just breathtaking. Cannot recommend it enough. There were also a variety of sodas, waters, and snacks available which came in handy with little ones. A nice touch that we were glad to take advantage of while in the middle of the ocean. In summary... yes, it costs more to charter a boat, but the intimate atmosphere with just your family and friends around make it absolutely priceless. I'd pay triple the price to make these memories with my family, and not have 25 strangers in the background of each picture. Splurge once and you will know EXACTLY what I'm talking about.

Originally was supposed to go earlier…read morebut they called me the day before and said the weather would be bad and asked if we could postpone it and I am glad we did because the weather was much sunnier and less windy the next day. James did a great job as our captain. It's nice you can bring your own beverages and they have some snacks on board. We drove around key west stopping at a few points, then rode out to an area to snorkel for a bit where we saw tons of sponges and some little fish, and then head back toward Key West, into the marina, and then back to where we started. Honestly, we didn't see any dolphin until we were on our way back in from snorkeling, and it honestly felt like it was just pure luck that we saw one but thank goodness we did since it was the highlight of the safari. The boat was pretty nice and comfortable. There were 6 total people including Captain James. The front is definitely the best place to see things from, so try to get a seat there if you can, even though it's not under the shaded cover part. It's like $112.36 per person after tax/fees plus there's a big sign on the boat guilt tripping you into tipping at least 20%. It's fine because James did a great job and deserved the 20% tip (although if we didn't bump into that dolphin on the way in, I would've felt a bit ripped off for the price), but basically expect to be out over $130 per person for a three hour boat ride. This can get pretty expensive, especially if you have a family, and I would've felt ripped off if we didn't see a dolphin but luckily we did so it was a cool experience that I definitely recommend when the weather is nice, winds are calm. Their website had higher prices in the description than the $99 that was actually charged so I hope they don't raise their prices because that would get kind of expensive. Especially when I was just in Miami and could rent a 13 person yacht for four hours $1300 so $100/person plus tax and tip is about the most I would be willing to pay for this experience, especially since seeing dolphins isn't guaranteed so you are basically just paying for a 3 hour boat ride.

The catamarans were easy to drive. Our guide was great and took pictures and shared them with us as well as the route we took. We were in a larger group and did not leave on time. The guide told us to not worry as we would get our full time on the water. He was right we spent 2 hours and 10 minutes on the water. Just that would say that they are an honest and above-board company! We took drinks and ice. They had a cooler for us to use. The navy was doing touch and goes from their base. We flew under the jets and it was one of the coolest things that I have done. You could almost reach out and touch the planes with how low that they were flying. I can't wait to be in Key West again to take this tour.

Booked the "Luminous Lagoon, A Guided Night Kayak Adventure" for a friend and myself, 8 pm. Got…read morerained out the night we initially booked and they didn't cancel until we got there which we were out $30 for Uber to and from our hotel. Rebooked easily for next night. It was a fun experience. The boats aren't completely clear as pictured but bottom you can see through. Guide was fun, had some facts about the wildlife but was young and didn't grow up in the area so a learned speech kind of situation. He let us kind of go at own pace. Saw one shark before we even left the dock but jellyfish, crabs, fish mostly on the water. Would probably try a different company next time just to see the difference but had a great time doing something we've never done before!

Our adventure began at Charter Boat Row by Garrison Bight Causeway (aka: Palm Ave Causeway), off North Roosevelt Blvd, in Key West where there was free parking. It was no trouble boarding the boat but Captain Gil graciously assisted us anyway. He offered us a variety of complimentary beverages, gave us the safety information and explained the on-board restroom. The boat seating was very comfortable. The 1 1/2 hour tour proceeded around the north and west sides of the island, then around Sunset Key and back to Garrison Bight. All during the tour, Captain Gill provided historical, educational and entertaining information about the harbor and Key West in general. We saw some of the U.S. Coast Guard Cutters, the yachts, fishing boats and tall ships in Key West Bight, cruise ships docked at Mallory Square, the historic USCGC Ingham Maritime (floating) Museum, President Truman's private beach, Fort Zachary Taylor, some celebrity homes on Sunset Key and many boats and other sights along the way. Licia checked us in and gave us a great overview before we took off of all the things we should look for and the best place to set up. She was really nice and knowledgeable. Truly above and beyond customer service. Britt was a great pilot and narrated all the things to look out for on the 30-min plane ride to and back from Dry Tortugas. We only fly at 500-feet, so you can see the clear water and sea life on the plane. I spotted a few turtles as we were flying there. Best seat on the ride there is the right side and highly suggest the 8am half day. It gives you enough time to snorkel quickly and enjoy the fort. They also give you a cooler of water and soft drinks, which was perfect for a hot day. The early timeslot also avoids the ferry, which got there at 11am as we finished our 2.5 hrs on the island. We met a mother/daughter snorkeling who mentioned they saw a hammerhead shark while they were snorkeling! Most efficient and smooth way to see the Dry Tortugas. We heard the ferry seldom cancels, even if there are 6ft swells (yikes).

If you want a huge…read moreboat with a ton of people there are plenty of different options from a pirate ship to a party boat to a typical booze cruise to various sightseeing excursions but they seem to have one thing in common - lots of people. Emerald Coast sailing is a lot more personal - you get the entire boat to yourself and can fit 2-6 people for a personalized excursion based on your interests and the local weather and atmosphere. It's a sailboat so be prepared for a different experience but for those who want something a bit unique and under the radar this is a great option in Destin. It's more expensive than the $25-30 per person you'll pay on most boats but then again you don't have those boats to yourself.
