Being from the central US, most vacations in the past have been mountain/cabin camping and motorcycle riding trips. Renting a 48 ft catamaran and having 8 people, plus captain and skipper in tight quarters was a bit of an unknown. However, by the time we completed our 2-day trip, every one of our family and friends couldn't stop talking about how fantastic the experience was. Before the trip, Captain Terry Mentor reached out to me and asked if there was a particular plan I had in mind. I indicated we'd like to do some snorkeling, island exploring and if the winds permitted, learn the ropes of sailing. Once on board and under way, Captain Terry and skipper Troy were great. For our two-day trip, including two nights at anchor, we headed toward the Marquesas Keys, about 20 miles west of Key West. On the way there we stopped at several different reefs and had a fantastic time with the family snorkeling. We say rays, dolphins, hammer heads, sea turtles and lots of fish. The first night the ocean was absolute glass, and we viewed the beauty of the sun setting into the ocean. A couple of the kids even slept out on the trampoline. The next morning we experienced the sunrise and another day of snorkeling and exploration. In the afternoon, skipper Troy lowered the dingy into the water and took us onto one of the islands. In the shallow waters we saw some sand sharks and then traveled into the central lagoon of the island. Later we visited a shipwreck and explored the remains. Each night Captain Terry and Skipper Troy were part of the family games and storytelling, they fit in nicely. The initial boat check-in and final check-out process went smoothly and everything, including the boat were as advertised. All in all, this was a unique family experience away from it all with beauty, adventure and encounters with unique marine life we will remember for years to some. The order…read moregot "lost," so we had to go out of our way to another dock to have the food delivered, cutting into our ability to go snorkeling elsewhere. After a 700 dollar order, they provided a measly 100 dollar credit. Don't use them, as they aren't the luxury experience they claim. You can do far better with a company that treats their customers well.

Often feel silly being pseudo residents (elsewhere in FL otherwise), doing touristy things, but we are always willing to try something new, especially if it involves boating! If you are lucky enough to catch the Top Sail Schooner Wolf in town, do whatever you can get on…read moreboard! We got extremely lucky to go out on a familiarization sunset sail the day they got back into town from Jamaica, and we'll never forget it! While the other crazy tourists in Key West were doing the sunset booze cruises on the big noisy yachts, we had an awesome sail right in front of Mallory Square. Its amazing being on a pirate ship, sitting back and cracking open a cold can of ale while an entire dock of people ooh and awe and take pictures. Then for the best part; our captain fired the black powder 'canon' (that thing is small but LOUD!) and just about scared the pants off of everyone. Awesome. The crew was young but very experienced. They had a good time, but were dead serious and masterful when it came to operating and sailing their ship. This was an experience we will never forget. The only regret? No green flash. I guess we'll just have to go out again next time we meet up with the Wolf!

Getting married on the water is great, but if you really want to set your celebration apart charter the Schooner Wolf! Planning our sail was easy, even from a distance. Julie made sure everything was in order and always responded to my emails promptly. I must have asked a million silly questions, but she patiently answered every one of them and went out of her way to offer assistance in a variety of ways, like offering hotel and restaurant recommendations and procuring a cd player so we could play music on board. Since we'd already planned a wedding on the beach before we found out about the Wolf, we declined the chance to get married by Admiral Finbar and chose to use the ship as a sort of cocktail hour. It's BYOB, and we were able to drop off alcohol and plastic champagne flutes the day before so we didn't have to worry about remembering it the day of. I was a bit worried about getting sea sick, especially after I ended up over the side of a boat during a snorkeling trip two days prior! I would have felt terrible if any of our guests would have gotten sick, but we made sure the Bonine, ginger gum, and Dramamine were flowing as freely as the champagne, and didn't have any problems. Everyone had a great time, including my 3 year old nephew. He was the only kid at our wedding and I was afraid he would get restless, but Murphy kept him entertained when she brought him below deck so he could seek out the hidden treasure chest. He went into shy mode, but with a little prodding from his dad and me he found and opened the chest. The look on his face was priceless, and proudly displayed the pieces of "treasure" she let him take for the rest of the trip! The whole experience was wonderful. The crew was really personable and so much fun- they definitely provided a flair to the evening that you wouldn't get most other places! Toasting our new marriage on the open sea was lovely, and sailing right out toward the beautiful Key West sunset was unforgettable.

I appreciated all the honest information and suggestions she sent me! The boat day was fun- my partner and I brought our dog and had a beautiful morning on the water! Sheri was VERY accommodating to both us, and our dog. She was so prepared with water bowls (and water), dog water toys, leashes, and life vests for our fur baby. We went to a sand bar (before anyone else showed up, and during low tide so our puppy could swim/run), and scouted several areas for dolphins (ended up finding a bunch of them- which our dog also loved)! We opted not to go snorkeling but she is very open to tailoring the trip to whatever you want to do. She has plenty of snorkel gear and wet suits. Loved this boat trip and would totally use Captain Sheri in the future!! Highly recommend without reservation.

We experienced a couple of dolphins on our way out to the reef, but were able to spend time with 9 of them on our way back. While at the reef, we saw lots of fish, a barracuda, and a large group hiding under a reef arch. If you are looking for a personal and quaint trip, Captain Sheri is the way to go!

This will definitely be a must do anytime we go back to Key West. We booked a snorkel trip from one of the regular tourist boats the day before. It was crowded, there wasn't enough seating, and it rained the whole hour back to the marina with no where to go to get away from it. I wish we would have found out about the After Hours sooner! We can't wait to do a snorkel charter with them. Trust me when I say the experience is worth every penny!
