The problem I have here is that the store entrance faces the parking lot and not the street. When I asked why, the guy said its to control traffic and the bus stop is right outside. *gasp* Is he insinuating something about people like me that ride the bus?! It's not fair that those who choose to walk or catch the bus have to walk all the way around building but drivers don't. Dont you think its unfair, that the store front is more accessible to the privileged folk who can afford a car vs those who catch bus or walk? My concerns were dismissed and he clearly didn't take me seriously. It's a shame that this is the culture of the business. read more

I was quite impressed with the amount of sheet music they had on hand. I figured they would have to special order for certain composers, but that wasn't the case here. Their selection of classical music was quite large as well, could of stood there for hours browsing through all the books They also had a lovely selection of Yamaha pianos. I'm not too much of a fan of Yamaha however all the instruments looked beautiful. They do allow arrangements to rent pianos if financing for a new one is out of the question. Customers can also bring in old used pianos to trade, depending on the year, make and condition it's in. Parking was easy to find and if you check in on Yelp they offer a discount on specific merchandise. The customer service was fine and helpful, however, when I talked to the owner I asked him a direct question in regards to the pianos and for some reason he kept on wanting to dance around the subject and wouldn't answer me directly? I bought a second hand Yamaha piano from Keyboard Concepts a few months ago, and I must say I am very pleased. When I went in to look at pianos the staff was very helpful, patient, and friendly. We looked at about 6-7 pianos in various price ranges before I settled on the one I ultimately purchased. I wanted to wait several months before doing a write up as I take these reviews pretty seriously. I rarely do them but I thought this might help someone in my shoes I was a bit nervous when I started my piano search. Unlike most things one buys these days (online, no human interaction, one shot, solve your own problems - or not) I assumed and hoped my music path would be a bunch of things - personal, daunting, important, hopefully lifelong. However I've seen a bunch of people quit - and everyone says learning needs to start very early. I realized that, besides the piano, what I was really looking for was someone I could trust even though I was just going to pay them once, and it was no small investment - therefore, I was in a great place to get hosed. Even worse, the piano I bought is quite complex. Between the manual and YouTube, I know there was a lot of info, but when the manager Jeff said, just "call anytime - we can answer any questions no matter how technical" all I could think was, "well I wonder how this will go". Despite my worries, I bought the piano (Yamaha Clavinova 709) - it was gorgeous, beautifully crafted and had teaching non-gimmicky features that, as a complete beginner, I couldn't find anywhere else. I knew that I could both start with it and grow into it. I am VERY happy with the instrument but that is not why I am writing this....What really blew me away is that even though my check is long cashed, I have gone back to the store and to Jeff several times with some very annoying questions and he has been nothing but great - I've never felt rushed and ALL of my questions have been addressed. The guy really really cares about my experience with the piano and he has handled every one of my frustrations immediately. My experience with Keyboard Concepts and Jeff has been fantastic - from selling to pricing to buying advice to installation oversight - but most of all, his promise of after-sale service has been amazing. I trusted him and it was a great move. (Btw, its not a coincidence that I am now doing hours on the piano and am learning stuff like left-hand sight reading while following along with the score - its ridiculous. This place is amazing. I have been playing keys for about 15 years now. I was in the area shopping for some records next door. The sign caught my attention. I walked in and was immediately greeted by friendly staff members. I was interested in looking at the Bosendorfers. Margaret was very friendly and let me check out a few Bosendorfers. The Yamaha technology with the Disklavier system is phenomenal. It essentially has tracks recorded by various Yamaha artists. It will feel like those artists are playing the piano in your home. My wife and I are the proud owners of a Bösendorfer 280VC. We live in Virginia, and Keyboard Concepts is in L.A. Despite the distance, I worked with Jeff Bauer via email. I already knew I wanted the 280VC, and a mutual friend placed us in contact with each other. There was no 280VC locally for me to try out and purchase. Most of my experience was spent in the Santa Monica store. Jeff - who runs the store and may be part owner was so knowledgeable about all things related to the pianos I was considering. They patiently let me come back like 6-7 times. I was also looking at pianos at another fine piano store in the area that didn't carry Yamahas. I do loved the Yamaha sound that I ended up choosing the C6X with the Silent Player option. What a choice. I pinch myself every time I play it. While the piano was the primary reason I purchased it here, all of the other elements kept me working with Keyboard Concepts. Jeff was the number one reason. Secondly, they are well known and plugged into the retail piano marketplace and we talked fairly about the various brands and locations. Never desparagingly - just talking pros and cons of brands and how pianos are different, harmonics, sound differences, and more. I trusted they would help me work with a local piano technician in the area. I have worked with two who both seem excellent. And they both work with Keyboard Concepts regularly. Mark is a rude customer associate. He promised me that he'll call me back for an estimate but he never did. So I purchased piano somewhere else because they took care of me so much better. I felt like Mark judged me by the way I look because I was just wearing casual t-shirts and jeans that day. But I really was serious purchasing small grand piano with silent system installed. And...! I went back to this store again couple months later to buy some sheet music and I test played one of their expensive piano. Mark shows up to me and told me that my keychain from my wallet may scratch their expensive piano bench. Ok... Sorry, and I looked my keychain and it wasn't even touching the piano bench. Also, when you need sheet music, selection is limited, and it takes them 2-3 weeks to order. Really, don't bother. And if you want to play their pianos, they "don't allow that." Pretty good experience. I was searching for an electric keyboard and was having no luck at vintage stores (for used ones) and the major chain store really failed me. Through Mark I learned that the other keyboards I found online were not what I should buy per my need. I needed a realistic feel compared to an acoustic piano. This is something I wasn't able to learn through online research and other salesmen at other stores. Their selection of sheet music was extensive and I found some nice music that I always wanted to learn to play. I was able to walk out with a keyboard, sheet music and a couple other items right in my budget. I can see how some people feel about the service there, but I was able to get what I needed and they treated me very well. I think at a place like this might be a store you need to know something about what you are buying. Which would matter when wanting to plunk down 6 figures for a piano (their prices range for less than that to more than that of course). I was very unsure of the purchase and had to ask a lot of questions to be absolutely sure of the purchase. Mark seemed very patient with me as I went through my process of deciding to buy If you want a more aggressive salesman, go someplace else. Four years ago my very young children were playing on a keyboard for lessons. Neither my husband, nor I, play the piano or any musical instrument for that matter. Our piano teacher suggested Keyboard Concepts because they had a great rental program. I called and spoke to Mark who understood immediately what we needed. He hooked us up with a great sounding used piano. It allowed us to get our feet wet and see if we really would use a piano if we owned one. Four years later I called Mark and told him we were ready to buy. He went through our needs and we decided that a used piano would be a perfect fit. I played the part of a diva and explained I couldn't come in and search their inventory. I have kids. Traffic. I don't live close. Mark kept his eyes peeled and when he found something he thought we'd like, he emailed me photos and broke down how much we would owe after the rental equity. I rushed in and he was on point. It was exactly the look and price I had asked for. We did the paperwork quickly and he worked about my schedule and helped me out immensely. But I am most thankful that he knows his stuff. I was able to trust that he was selling me what we needed and not what he wanted to sell. He's knowledgable and made it so, ridiculous easy for me. I can't recommend this place enough.
