Great corner grocery store that has everything from Louisiana hot sauce, go to sundry items, and things that you might need for your Airbnb in Nola. We smelled the aroma of their food a block from our Airbnb and it smelled amazing. There was a line out the door for their meals that consisted of daily specials from fried chicken, collard greens, red beans, and rice, fried catfish, seafood items, in a buffet style manner. I believe they also had jambalaya and other rice dishes as well. We just came to the grocery store for essential such as water, soda, and soap. But service was excellent and friendly. They also had white beans baked chicken, fried chicken wings stuffed bell peppers and smoked sausage. I opted for the bell pepper and white beans that came with a side of corn bread. 11/5/2019: I went to Key's today to grab a hot lunch plate of cabbage w/ wings and cornbread. My cabbage was at the bottom serving of the pan, so it was a little smushed. I should have waited for the new pan of cabbage to come out. So at Key's, the cabbage is steamed with pig meat. Their cornbread is a hit or miss. Sometime it's burnt, sometime it's dry, and other time it's hella soft and delicious. I think their wings batter is mixed with Tony's. I'm kind of basic, so I think it tastes pretty good. The guy that opens the store has a very nasty attitude towards black people. What I don't understand is way do they have him working there because 98% of the customers are black. I've lived two blocks away from this store for 56 years before it was called keys and have never experienced anything like this before. I will do everything I can to spread the word and tell everyone that will listen about my experience there. I have brought many customers there and many from the hospital where I work. I will make sure to let them all know of my experience. I have heard many stories about him and I have finally experienced it first hand. I refuse to give my money or allow any of my friends spend money in a place that doesn't appreciate or respect me or any black person that comes there. I have been going to the store for over 20 years. I have never had a problem with the workers there just recently I guess in the past year or so there's this Honduran guy working the counter. I was in line and there was a guy before me that came in he lives in the neighborhood and he always is in keys food store matter of fact he was coming here before the Honduran guy even worked here. So that guy gets to the counter and he's like 20 cents short and the Honduran guy behind the counter said you came in before and was short and I can't let you do that. Now mind you I understand it's a business and I've been in there before and I've seen this guy say no keep the change because I may need it the next time I come and for him to embarrass that older guy like that was ridiculous it almost made me not want to come to that store anymore. I just think that they should respect their customers more let alone respect your elders how dare he embarrass that older guy like that in front of a store full of people.
