We stopped in at this adorable book and coffee shop (name has been updated to Mr. Beans Books & Beans) on a day trip to Key West. The gentleman who owns it bills himself as grouchy and surly, but we weren't fooled. He's clearly passionate about his business, his cat, and his coffee, including commissioning his own personal blend from a local roaster. Our lattes were smooth and delicious (almond and oat milk). Although pricing is pretty reasonable, especially for the Keys, I do wish they didn't charge extra for plant based milks. WIFI is available with a $5 purchase, and there is a variety of books to browse and/or buy while enjoying a coffee or pastry. read more

Came here twice on our vacation because we loved the vibe so much. Welcoming book shop with a coffee bar, seating, and a couple cats roaming around - Mr. Beans (hence the new name of the shop) and Muffin. My husband picked up a beach read on pirates - which came with a free Mr. Beans bookmark, and we got told a hilarious pirate joke by the owner. I jumped because they had Italian soda which I rarely see in South FL - it was so good. Second time around there were a bunch of kids with their parents, so certainly family friendly. Highly recommend for a cafe visit or your book needs if you're in the area. read more

This shop is under a new name, don't know the back story, however, Mr. Beans books and Beans is perfect. I would have been there every morning during my stay in Marathon if I had the opportunity. It offers such a local vibe, not to mention the best (traditional) macchiato. I bought several books while I was there, they had a good selection of new ones and what appeared to be second hand books as well. I'm kind of upset I didn't see any cat beans in my 10 min pop in though! read more

Oh my goodness, this for sure was one of my favorite stops in my entire trip through the Keys! If you like books, coffee, and kitties, and you're in the area, well then what are you waiting for, go here!!! But really. This is a coffee shop that has good* coffee, and they have used books literally on shelves on every wall where there's space. And you can buy some for super cheap, at most a couple bucks per book, it's just wonderful. They also house two resident kitties there, who were adopted by the owners and just come to hang out everyday and greet customers while mom and dad work, it's literally the sweetest. Mr. Beans, the black and white one is especially friendly and just loves to be held and cuddle and hang out. He was just adorable and I absolutely loved him. Not to mention, the owners were so friendly too and great to talk to, they are just locals enjoying their small business and so personable. This is just a really cool, homey shop and it will forever be a required stop for me any time I return to the keys. All love, Mr. Beans. read more

Loved visiting Mr. Beans Books & Beans! We were honored to catch a few glimpses of the owner (Mr. Beans) and visit with his other feline companion, Muffin. My oatmilk "natte" (no caffeine and no dairy latte) was delicious as was my cappuccino the next day (we had to go back!). Would also highly recommend the Gourmet Cream Cheese Danish. I wish we lived closer so we could go back again and again. I'd highly recommend swinging by if you're in the area! read more

Great spot! One of the better places I have been to during my trip. We got an almond danish, a blueberry muffin, and a fresh fruit smoothie. The danishes are SOOO tasty!! I'm in love! I usually never visit a place twice especially when I'm traveling, but this place made me want to. Quite possibly the best muffin I've ever had! I wonder if they make them in house... When you walk in the vibe is immaculate, I love places like this and there was supposedly a cute kitty somewhere but I couldn't find them. There's lots of space and as a college student, I would have LOVED to have a coffee shop like this near my campus. A few people in other reviews commented about the owner's attitude/need for tips, but we didn't run into this issue. We did tip but at the end, but his attitude didn't really change quite frankly. The owner was really nice and seemed to know the people in front of us. The only thing I will say is that he asked us what we wanted one by one, which seemed odd and contradicted other people's comments about him getting annoyed that they were ordering one by one. This is only because I tried to order my drink while he heated up our baked goods, but maybe he didn't hear me since he went on cleaning. read more

Don't sleep on Mr. Beans coffee. The shop has kids books, thrillers, best sellers and used half priced beach reads. It really has something for everyone. If you forgot your book at home, short of hitting the library this is the best place in Marathon to restock. Try a whole milk cappuccino straight. It's delicious. read more

I was on a quest for a good book to read while enjoying the beautiful beaches here in the Keys, and I soon discovered this shop. We decided to stop in, and I was immediately greeted by the comfort of a bookstore and the delicious aroma of brewing coffee. I browsed the bookshelves for what felt like hours.... what a plethora of books they had!! The store had both used and new options, and I'm sure anyone could find a good book to read here. We ordered a bunch of coffees and sweat treats. I've had many lattes before this, and I have to give my iced caramel latte from Keys News & Coffee a solid 10/10..... it was perfect! The prices were great (only $4.74 for a large latte.) The cinnamon bun we ordered was equally as delicious. We will definitely stop by here again soon! I loved the relaxed vibe and the welcoming presence that we were met with after a long day at the beach. Rude costumer service. After asking to add another shot into my drink 10 seconds after ordering, before paying, the man taking my order rolled his eyes and sighed. After exasperatedly adding another shot, he shoved the tip jar over to me and before I even had time to put change in my wallet, said, "We take tips!" while rolling his eyes again. Great coffee, amazing service, and reasonable price! Large cappuccino & latte were about $5 each, which I realized was a steal when I paid over $7 for a large latte a few miles down the road the next day. The barista was friendly and helpful. Also, they have a small section of local books for sale, and a small library of used books...not sure if they are for sale or there to borrow...but regardless still neat as I did not see any other bookstores in Marathon. I know weird picture, but i came here yesterday to get a smoothie, and this smoothie was so good! It was the small mango smoothie with whipped cream in the creamy texture. I drank the whole thing! Today, my parents bought me another one because of how good this smoothie was, which is the picture, with my cereal. I drank the whole thing again! This local coffee shop/Book store in Marathon was a cute little hidden gem. We almost missed it and thought it might be closed, but luckily to our surprise, it was open! The owner was behind the register and also prepared our breakfast which consisted of bagels and a delicious cup of coffee. He was very personable and talkative. He took his time to take our order and prepared it himself. He seemed to be working alone, so this made my patience level go way up! You can't be inpatient when you come to this coffee shop! You're in the Keys after all, so sit back and relax! There are books for sale all over the shop. This is was something I did not expect at all during this short trip. The best part was Mr. Beans, the owner's cat! He was a cute black cat with white paws! You can see him in the picture I posted! You would be pleasantly surprised at Keys News & Coffee! read more

I'm a sucker for local coffee joints, so we had to come by and try our Keys News. As we walked in, a mother was apologizing profusely to a frustrated-looking gentleman behind the counter taking her order. Apparently her kids were asking for what they wanted in piecemeal, as kids do, and he wasn't happy about it. "Can you just tell me what else you want, and next time say it all up front?" he said to her. She finished her order and sat down with her two young boys to entertain them while they waited for their breakfast sandwiches. We had our littles with us too, so we empathize deeply in those moments. Frustrated gentleman behind the counter takes another 10 minutes or so to complete her order. It becomes clear that he is all alone in this endeavor and we wait patiently. When he does finish and ask us for our order, he's still steaming from the last. My wife asks for a coffee and he barks "any more of those before I start?" She asks for a couple breakfast sandwiches and he again looks annoyed. 3 other customers get in line behind us and it appears to heighten his frustration. We ring up, he stops talking to anyone, and the entire store waits silently for 10 minutes before the process begins again. Small businesses are small for a reason, and that can either present itself as unique charm or stressful frustration. This experience was full of the latter, at least for the sole employee of Keys News. Coffee and food was good enough, but it put a damper on our morning that we had to shake off elsewhere. If given the option again, we'll pass and go somewhere that people are made to feel welcome. read more

Don't be confused by the new name. We stoped by for our caffeine needs and found a really lovely little spot. You can read books and newspapers, have a nosh and a cup of Joe (or my iced coffee if the day with almond milk and two sugars! ) Definitely take a moment to meet the true owner, Mr Beans, and his human is pretty friendly too. read more

I was looking for a used book store, and it was just okay -- lots of vacation reads but no variety. I was hoping for some local lore, local authors and maybe a little Hemingway -- but it had none of that. Had an iced coffee that was fine but not fantastic. I love this little family affair. Jeff gets your drink done perfect, then Beans and Jasmine come to check on you and make you feel welcome :) But seriously, the Super Frozer is one of the best blended coffee drinks I've ever found, and I feel like I've tried them all. Jeff is warm and friendly but no so much so that he won't leave you in peace to do work you came to do on your laptop. Oh, and be sure to try the guava & cream cheese danish; that's a great combo. read more
