After an extremely long sixteen hour shift at work I knew I needed one thing before I headed home and slept for a majority of the day. That one day was a greasy, heavy breakfast. Something that would sit in my stomach and make me feel satisfied. Quick search on Yelp to find a diner like setting for such and this was the nearest to where I was at that point in my commute. Keystone Kitchen sits in a plaza off of Route 22 in New Alexandria, from the outside it doesn't look like much. Once you go inside it looks like a country cabin diner, if that makes sense. The sounds in here are those of a diner and the smells are that of a diner. However, what is different is the decor. Kind of like a hunting cabin with the wood decor that is everywhere. The tables and booths were well used, making me know that this place is well liked and frequented enough to make it a local staple. When I came in I was greeted right away and told I could sit wherever I wanted. Shortly after finding a seat I had a menu in hand and a drink order placed. I was left to look over the menu. At the time of the visit I got to look over the breakfast menu. I was especially craving biscuits and gravy. My mind just kept telling me that and I was going to just order a combo with that as a side. That is until I made myself look over the menu one more time. That's when I spot the number 5 combo breakfast meal. That combo would give me everything that I needed at that moment in time. The number five combo is two eggs cooked they way you like, choice of either breakfast potatoes or hash browns, and the biscuit and gravy I was craving. I went with two dippy eggs (that's sunny side up for you non-western Pennsylvanians) and hash browns to accompany my biscuit and gravy. When it showed up in front of me, I couldn't wait to dig into that plate. I didn't know it, but I was starving. The eggs were perfect, cut into them and the yolks started running all over the plate, that was perfect to me. The hash browns had that outer crust on them that gave you the crunch and the inner parts were that warm potato that just hits you. Best part about it is that you can mix them with either the runny egg yolk or the extra gravy that definitely spilled over from the biscuit. The biscuit and gravy, oh my god, amazing. The biscuit is made in house which means they are fresh and tasty. The gravy has this sweet and savory mix going for it. The pieces of sausage in the gravy are amazing little pops of flavor. Little bit of spice in there, but everything balances out. It really livens up the dryness of the biscuit. This meal was what I set out for, satisfying. The service here, way above the bar. I mean there is great service and then there is Keystone Kitchen. Very attentive, interacting with everyone in here, letting you know who the regulars are, and very on top of their game. I really enjoyed the meal, it hit the spot and definitely put me to sleep when I finally did home for morning. read more

We have been going here since moving back to this area, and have never had a disappointing meal. The food tastes great breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Nothing there comes out feeling line the assembly line way it does from the chain restaurants... all more closely resemble favorite home cooked ones, not like something precooked and heated up like found most other places. The atmosphere is friendly and comfortable. No uncomfortable seats like those found at fast food places like McDonald's and other fast food places or those trendy restaurants. EVERY PERSON WORKING HERE FEOM THE OWNER ON DOWN IS FRIENDLY AND PERSONABLE. They know the regulars and often can guess what they are going to order, and treat first time guests like regulars... perhaps because they know you will return after trying the Keystone Kitchen. The walls in the Keystone Kitchen are covered with the history of the local area that makes New Alexandria special. Sit in the far back room and you are destined to walk away knowing more about the area than you did when you walked in. So I came here for Father's Day. And I have to say that it was great. The food was good, but my sausage gravy was a bit too small, and it wasn't worth . The restaurant is in a strip mall and the decor inside is pretty basic. Booths line the outer edges with a large tables in the middle. Basic but serviceable. The staff is wonderful! Very friendly, very helpful. They check and make sure you're happy and keep you refilled. When you first sit down for lunch, they bring you homemade chips. I had a side salad to start and a bacon cheeseburger for lunch. The salad was a huge let down. For $5, the lettuce should be green. All I got was old white iceberg. The rest of the ingredients were fresh, like the tomato, onion & olives. The bacon cheeseburger however was FANTASTIC! Better than you'd make at home. Fresh beef prepared how you like. The lettuce in the burger was extremely fresh as were all other veggies. Crisp bacon, good cheese all on large brioche buns. As an added surprise, the fresh hand cut fries had a parsley/parmesan cheese sprinkle on them. Delicious. I'd recommend this place, but if you want a salad, ask about the lettuce ahead of time. read more

Went here with 3 friends on a Saturday afternoon after looking at reviews, and on the recommendation of one our group. It is a rustic, homey diner type of place. We were seated right away and the waitress was very sweet. Our orders were placed and we waited, and waited and waited. Our waitress checked on us the first time after about 20 minutes to check on refilling drinks, but never mentioned our food orders; it was probably about another 10 minutes when our waitress came back again and told us our food orders were coming up and that our friend's stromboli had been overcooked and it would be done shortly. Well, apparently all the other food was already made and sitting, because my sandwich came out cold, cheese congealed, and slightly soggy because it was sitting on the pickle spear. My fries were cold and were all just small pieces, like they were the last of the bunch. My friend's fried sampler platter was cold and most of the items were dry and hard. I was looking forward to eating here. I am not sure I want to back, but maybe breakfast is better? Prices were reasonable, though, I will give them that. And waitress was sweet. All in all, I would say our food took about 45 minutes to get to us, and nothing was complicated, except the stromboli. Maybe the cook was having a bad day. read more

Found the perfect American breakfast. Most places have a breakfast that comes close, but the Gut Buster has everything. And everything, from the eggs to the meats and potatoes to the sausage gravy, was cooked perfectly. Even the bread. Seriously, The rye bread reminded my husband of his grandparents' bakery. If you know my tastes in food, you'll know that I rue only one thing: the Dayton area just doesn't have much in the way of an authentic diner. As such, whenever I manage to get back to the Pittsburgh area, I'm sure to find my way to a true to life diner. Keystone Kitchen has all the trappings of a roadside diner, but it just doesn't quite cut the mustard when it comes to execution. Service at Keystone was a bit lackadaisical, with the server seeming not to know which tables were open and which still needed cleaning or the like. There was an entire section of the restaurant roped off, despite it being a fairly busy Friday night, which left me a little shocked. The restaurant isn't laid out particularly well, which leaves space at a premium. Why close an entire section and cram everyone together, when you've got a perfectly good side room with plenty of tables available? The food, though, is where Keystone stumbles for me. Don't get me wrong: their kitchen chips are among the best I've had, with a perfectly addictive seasoning. But, aside from those, the food was decidedly middling. My hot roast beef sandwich looked good, but the bread to meat ratio was thoroughly off, with a ton of bread, but very little bread. I got my gravy served on the side, and it became swiftly obvious that their gravy came from a jar or can, with a telltale film over the top. The fries that came with my sandwich very obviously came straight from a freezer bag, and came totally unseasoned--no salt or pepper, barely any caramelization from the fryer. All told, I don't see myself going back to Keystone Kitchen anytime soon. I'd just as soon travel up Route 22 to Dick's or, if I'm in Ligonier, hitting Ruthie's on Route 30. read more

Update Review...my family returned for another visit...the visit couldn't have been better! Food was excellent, this waitress knew what she was doing, and previous issues have been fixed!! ---------------------------------------- Nice little mom & pop diner. Services are friendly and quick turn around our meal. Food was absolutely amazing. Our lower review comes for two reasons. First, two of our meals were served to a different table and returned to the kitchen. From our table we watched the cook deconstruct the burger and make it to fit our order. We watched this happen more than once. Second, related to the chips they serve as you wait. They are a nice touch and good. They would be better fresh & warm. Half way through the meal we realized they are premade in the baskets and stacked on a shelf. So there is a potential for contamination from the bottom of the basket onto the chips of the basket they are sitting in. Also, directly above these stacks of baskets are the cleaning products and rags...one of which was hanging down into the chips below. Kind of gross...see picture. So...I realize "shit happens" as the waitress having a bad day said after serving another wrong order, but it is gross to think someone else touched our food before she retrieved it. And, the cleaning products need to be moved. Should these issues be fixed we will improve our rating. read more

When we are at the Camper for the season this is the place to eat. Breakfast, pizza, pastas, comfrt foods, huge salads some come with fries, sandwiches, starters, soups, homemade chips (dine in), burgers, daily Specials, desserts, lrg portions, friendly staff, homemade food, order at least 2 times a week or more, haven't tried breakfast yet lines are always way to long. Losing some of the luster. Menu changes not good. Used to have excellent thick French toast but changed to thin small pieces of bread. Used to be open for lunch and dinner but now hours were drastically scaled back and it seems they are only open for breakfast. This places has become average. Nothing special anymore with the changes that were made. read more

Found KK on Yelp when we were coming home from idlewild. Glad we did! Small place, simple menu. They greet your table with a basket of fresh cut chips. We chose the fried provolone appetizer & it did not disappoint, crunchy breaded cheese wedges with marinara. My husband got the luca fire pizza, the kids split a spaghetti dinner & i had the chicken cheesesteak. Everything was very good, we would definitely stop again! read more

I'm impressed. Camping at Keystone and found the good reviews from yelp. The family enjoyed wings, fries with gravy, salad, and a kids order of spaghetti. Some of the best wings I have had in a long time. The fries alone are a good reason to come back. When the owner/chef came out to personally check on us, I knew that this place deserved 5 stars. Some more expensive restaurants could take some management lessons from Keystone Kitchen. Thanks for a great meal. read more

I have been to LOTS of diners in my day but this one was the best. Great food and great service. I will be coming back to this place again....and again. I had the Rueben and it was awesome. I can't wait to try everything else Update: This is the second time I came here and decided to get the Rueben since I loved it so much last time. I am sorry to say that the Rueben I got had literally half the amount of meat. I brought it to the waitress' attention and she agreed. She went into the back and came back out and said that the owner said "the bread was bigger and that is why it looked like there was less meat." Nice try..Not true...same size bread but way less meat. The waitress was great and said let me see what I can do. She came back and said that the owner is "sticking to his story". They did nothing about it. Very disappointed...will not be coming back to this place and will let the 300 pipeline people I work with in the area not to come here. . read more

This is a great small town restaurant near Keystone State Park. Nice variety in their menu, and their staff is always super friendly. Their salads are very big, and have a lot of variety, and the Stromboli is excellent! Definitely check them out for breakfast! You won't be disappointed! read more

We've eaten at Keystone Kitchen on several occasions and always enjoyed the food and the great service. However, our experience this past Saturday prompted me to write this review. Our daughter chose to have their wedding dinner there because she too enjoys this restaurant. The entire party consisted of 26 adults and one infant. I'll make this short. Due to being shorthanded, we had only one waitress attending to the entire party. She was absolutely phenomenal, you'd have thought we had 4 waitresses. Every appetizer, main course, and drink was correct, the food was delicious, and the portions were very generous to say the least. I highly recommend Keystone Kitchen for a party of 2 or 30. Even with a large party, they allowed us to use the main menu and did not shrink it for their convenience. Go there and enjoy! read more

What a great little find! We were driving to Punxsutawney today and wanted to grab some lunch along the way. We saw a billboard for this place and decided to give it a try. It's just a tiny diner in the middle of a plaza. But what great food and huge portions for the price! Our table had a burger (cooked PERFECT), a huge BLT and a salad that was so big, we all could have shared. Great diner food, seasoned perfectly. Very nice service.
