My mom recently bought a new (to her) car, which came with only one key. Since things seem to accidentally wind up in the trash at their house, my mom was anxious to get some extra keys cut. Since I did the researched, test drove and negotiated the purchase of the car, my mom turned to (read: expected) me to sort out the key situation. Unnecessarily complicated keys are no longer reserved for higher-end cars; keys for your newer Corolla will cost you a mint too. To boot, you can't simply get a key cut at your local hardware store and expect to be good to go (believe me, we tried). Initially, I contacted a nearby Toyota dealership, knowing that it would be the most expensive option. I wanted to know what they charged for comparison purposes - $400 for one remote and one valet key cut and programmed. About half of that cost being labor. If your jaw just dropped, so did mine. Once I picked it up off of my computer, I turned to the Googles. Keyway wasn't my first call; I found another guy with great reviews, but when it came time to schedule an appointment, his voicemail box was full. His loss was my gain because not only was Keyway's location more convenient, pricing was slightly better and walk-ins are welcome. The store isn't much; ample parking and a sparse interior comprised of a few displays and some key blanks. The guy who helped me was very nice; he looked up the car, cut and programmed the keys and tested them out. The whole process took maybe 20 minutes. They were running a deal, so I also scored a 10% discount. I'm not going to lie, the keys were still ridiculously expensive for what they are, but I spent less than half of what I would have at the dealership. I was told by the dealership that I needed a new auto key, $383 for key & programming. I called my mechanic who recommended Keyway. I called & was quoted $229 total. When I got there I explained to Ben that I had replaced the battery, but the dealership said the key transmitter was bad. Ben opened up the key & said the battery was installed the wrong way. I used Keyway lock to purchase a replacement FOB for my car. Keyway guaranteed that the FOB was original equipment. The FOB came with a 1 year warranty. After 10 months, the FOB stopped working. The buttons no longer opened/closed the doors. After 4 visits to the Villa Park store and several replacement FOBS ordered, Keyway was unable to successfully program a new FOB. Unbelievable!!!! I continued to receive responses that the replacement FOBs were not functioning. Finally, the owner/manager got involved and after numerous phone conversations and several appointment delays, Keyway informed me that they would not honor the warranty unless I allowed them to take my broken FOB and return it to the manufacturer for testing. I was picking my car up from the shop in Villa Park and accidentally locked my keys in my trunk. I had to pay the shop a lot of money and had only 50 bucks left on me i called this shop and after being transferred over 5 times and being hung up on the technician who was not more than 5 minutes away finally told me it would cost 80 bucks when I know it is as simple as putting a pillow between a door crevice to open it, but the point is I only had 50 dollars and I told them the situation I was in they gave me a story how they need to make their money leaving me stranded here until I called another shop who agreed to help me out. Went here to have a keyfob progred amm had a terrible experience. First off the rolls his eyes at me and explains how these $10 dollar key fobs from amazon probably wont work because the fcc number is different. My key fob is a genuine oem fob that was a lot more than 10 dollars and the fcc number was correct; I made sure of that while researching the keyfob to purchase. He was not very knowledgable because he was having a hard time finding my obd port and couldn't get his programmer to work correcly solely based on user error. Because he couldn't get his programmer to work, he proceeded to tell me that the ecm in my car is bad; I was very skeptical. I went up the street to batteries and bulbs 20 minutes latet and they were able to program my fob. So if my ecm is bad (which the guy from keyway insisted) why were they able to program my key at batteries and bulbs? The guy I talked to was not knowledgable, shady, and dismissive as if he didn't want to help me; will never come here again nor will I recommend this place. read more

Own a 2008 Ford Escape XLT. Dealer wanted $199 for programming and $89 for transponder that I lost. So, I used my backup transponder to find match on EBay (took 5 minutes and cost $24 for used item with free shipping - used MidAtlantic Lock Smith on EBay). 3 days later when transponder arrived, I brought to KeyWay and the people there were great. Told me it would cost $65 to program and if it didn't work they would credit me on the purchase of a new transponder. Sounded good to me. And 15 minutes later I had a working transponder and drove away very pleased. I highly recommend these folks. read more

If there is 0 star, these guys should get it. After a few phone calls, I decided to go this shop located in Villa Park, IL to get a copy of my Honda Odyssey 2007 Key copy. These guys are scam. So, if you read this review, and still decide to go....Because what kind of service you end. You going for a new key copy at $85 but you will end $1000 with ignition replacement. 1) These guys cannot make Key Copy after a few keys later or 1 hour later. 2) They advise me to get a new ignition and explain my key is damage or worn out. This will now cost $1000. Lucky - I am an Engineer and decide to see if what he said is true. 3) I inspected the copy key and my original key. It is not even close to be the same. I tried to explain and help them that their machine is not working or needs tune up. Nope - they still think my keys are worn out and needs new ignition replacement. ???? read more

Very disappointed. I was quoted about $225 less than the actual bill turned out for repairs after a break in. They were prompt in getting to my house after a break in but they did not repair the broken door frame. They attached the new, supposedly stronger locking system, right into the broken door frame. I tried to contact Keyway via phone and then their website asking why the broken frame was not repaired but received no reply. Now I'm receiving quotes from other door companies in the $450 range to completely replace the Keyway work including repairing the broken part of the frame. read more

Went there to have a aftermarket Remote programmed and the key cut about a month ago. well they tried to cut it and told me the remote was in the way so they could not cut it right they messed up the key Blank. I ordered another one and went back today with the same on only this time i took the key of the flip remote as it was just a drive pin. and guess what? they did not get it right this time ether but they did get close as it does start the car but is not cut right as it is still had to turn. and as for the remote. so try was that my remote from GMC was not programmed right as they could not program the aftermarket remote from it guy cutting had another reason why this one would not could right , the Blank was thinner then the OEM key,I guess everything has to be perfect for them to beable to do there work. , but they did charge me for there time $65.00 for really nothing except a hard turning key that if i use too much i bet will break off in the lock. moral of the story is go elsewhere this place has trouble and charges for there mistakes. this was a 2016 GMC so they have to or dealer has to program it. Terrible customer service and operating practices. Having my car repaired near by I was directed to Keyway. Being early (8am) I thought I would go see if they were open. Their hours posted on their door said 8:30am. So I waited. At 8:30am I tried the door and it was locked. Went back to my truck and waited a little bit. Next thing I know its 9am, tried the door again and its still locked, nobody in the parking lot, all their lights off inside. I called their number. Someone answered as if I just woke them up and I asked what time they opened. They asked where I was at. Confused as I am calling the Villa Park office, I said I was in Villa Park. This person said that someone was on a service call and did not know when they would get to the store. I sarcastically asked if "their posted business hours were just recommendations," and this person did not understand my question / sarcasm and continued to tell me that they were on a service call. I then asked, "so are these business hours on your door just decorations?" Either he finally understood my point or became angry at my sarcasm because he said yes and hung up on me. While I was a little sarcastic that is still no way to treat a customer after they have been waiting for a long time for their store to open. I was there for a very specific and expensive reason, I wanted to give them a significant amount of money to fix my current key issue. If they can afford to not open their stores according to their posted times online, and on their door, then they are doing something wrong. If they can afford a big billboard above their store on North Avenue in Villa Park then they should afford to open their store at the time that THEY suggest. I was out of town on a business trip and lost my car keys which have chip technology. My car was parked at O'Hare airport and Steve met me there just before 7pm on a Friday night in 30 degree weather. I gave him incorrect information about the car's remote start feature which cause the anti-theft system to lock. Steve worked for 3 hours on the car, never once showing his frustration.
