I would leave zero stars if it let me. Dining room was closed. Didn't know till you get to the door and this tiny sign that says drive thru only. Got back in the car, drive around, and waited about 5 minutes while the car in front of us sat there. Finally, they just up and drove off without ordering. We pulled forward ....nothing.....sat there and sat there....no greeting thru the speaker or anything. Eventually said "hello" and got a snotty message back to "just wait". Waited another couple minutes to find out they had no chicken, only nuggets, and that would be at least half an hour wait. We said no, we would go somewhere else, and the reply was "good, we don't want you here anyways, you've been rude and nasty this whole time" (voice sounded like a teenage boy. Ordered food through the online app on 7/2/2024. The app told us that the order was accepted and that the food would be created. Upon arriving the line outside was into the street and taking up the center turning lane. I had to wait 45 minutes prior to even being able to pull into the parking lot. Cars were side by side waiting in line to go through the drive through. While waiting, I consistently checked the app on my phone, it said the food was prepping, and then moved onto cooking, and then my order was completed. When I arrived at the drive through order window, I was informed by the single employee working that the online orders were turned off and there was no way she could complete my order unless I wanted to order my food again and would have to pay for it a second time. The worker was clearly stressed and overwhelmed. I advised that I was not interested in playing for my $45 order twice and asked how to receive a refund for the food I had already ordered. The employee went over a process that included calling their corporate, filing a report, and requesting a refund, and so after approximately 50 more minutes, I had filed my report and was told, I would receive a full refund in a week or so once approved at a higher level. Its now 7/18/2024 and I have not received a call, a refund or anything else, I am going to call up the corporate number again and see what I can do at this point. The location was dirty, much of the exterior of the building was run down and left me wondering if this was just under poor management. They clearly have enough people interested in their location but only a single employee working and no notification that their app is down, that they cant directly refund an order they didn't complete despite their app saying the order was completed. Just reopened after being closed for months because of staffing issues and apparently complaints. While they appear to have fixed the staffing issue, they haven't fixed the staff. This has got to be, not only the worst-run chicken joint ever--it may be the worst-run business of any kind that I have ever encountered. If the on-site signage can be believed (all the online info is wrong), it is only open from 10:30 a.m. until noon, but in fact it isn't even open then, that I can tell. The last time I went when it was actually open for business, the 8-piece chicken bucket I ordered was horrendous; the biscuits were smushed in with the chicken pieces, the chicken coating was coming off, and the employees looked like they had an average IQ of 80. We were excited to go here. As it's been closed every time we've gone down near Essex we live an hour away. My husband and I were down there and decided we'd run over and see if they were open yet. We understand they're understaffed we read the Interview online. We waited in the drive-through for a half an hour plus an extra six minutes because we wanted to 16 piece meal to take home to the kids. We really didn't mind the staff was kind. The lady at the window was very nice unfortunately when we got home, which like I said is an hour drive. We had to reheat the food of course no problem. Let me start this by saying that I love kentucky fried chicken. In order to open the bathroom door, you have to sort of jiggle the handle a bit. Once I got in there, there was another man using the single urinal, so I decided to patiently wait outside. Once I returned to the bathroom (Again, had to do the jiggle maneuver) The man was still in there, but now he was washing his hands. Now, I come from the generation of the "One at a time" bathroom policy, so I was really waiting on this guy. I once again chose to go back and wait outside the bathroom. Once the man finally left (he really took his time) he gave me an odd look. I thought this was quite rude because at the very least I was trying to respect, not just my privacy, but his as well. Once I finally got my self adjusted in the bathroom I noticed I could really smell the herbs and spices- the bathroom must share a vent with the kitchen or something. After using the urinal, I went to flush it- and I noticed something. The flow of the flush ran in a counter clockwise direction. Water typically drains in a clockwise direction in the northern hemisphere, not counter. I thought this was quite odd but I decided to not make a big deal about it. I then went to wash my hands. The area where you press your hand on the soap dispenser was quite small, kind of hard to press. Once I actually got some soap out if it, I noticed it had a very chalky consistency, not anything like your typical hand soap. I then started to realize why the other man took so long. After I left the restroom I found a penny on the floor and picked it up. I saw it was from 1985 (back then pennies were 95% copper, todays pennies are mostly zinc) And given the dramatic increase in copper prices, I put it in my pocket. I went over to the counter to show the woman the penny I found, and told her that its actually worth more than 1 cent because of the copper makeup. She corrected me by saying the 95% copper makeup is only in pennies prior to 1983, not 1985. I googled it, and she was right. Even though she was correct, as a customer I don't like to be corrected. I felt embarrassed. At that point I decided that the backwards draining in the bathroom may have not been such a small issue after all, so I decided to ask her about it. I told her that the counter clockwise draining direction only happens in places like Austrailia. She pretended to have no idea what I was talking about. Will I return? I'd give this place no stars if I could. I was not able to order online, so we went to the restaurant and waited in the drive through lane for more than 20 minutes, because we couldn't go inside. When we finally got to order, we were told that they had no chicken, and it would be at least 30 minutes before more chicken would be ready. When we said we wanted a bucket, they said it would be 15 more minutes on top of the 30 minutes quoted. She said, and I quote: "We can't serve you anything chicken right now". Well, a restaurant that serves chicken only and has no chicken shouldn't even be open. I love KFC as a treat, but it's not worth it to come here. We tried one other time, they were closed, even though the website said they were open. I get it, Covid and supply chain issues and no help, but why open if you can't provide the service your customers want? There were probably at least 6 cars in front of us, and 2 more behind us. I love this place and my family eats there often when we don't want to cook or get some other take out. I know its fast food, but it's fantastic. We went there today to get food to bring home, and the lady working on the register was very nice. I didn't catch her name, but we were there on 1/1/2020 around 5:30. In fact, most of the time that we go there she is there and always makes it a good experience. Game night with my adult kids and my grandkids. I bought 2 large buckets of chicken and many sides. The chicken was an embarrassment. Actually made me angry. Many pieces were very dehydrated and shrunk and dried out. They sat too long in the restaurant's serving dish. These pieces should have been thrown out, instead the server scoops up all these ruined pieces and placed then in one of my buckets. When I got to my daughters house we were all expecting plumb, juicy chicken. Only a few pieces we worthy. I wanted to drive back and complain and show these dehydrated pieces to get some sort of credit. I decided to wait until next day so that i wouldn't miss the game.
