So every year or two I get a craving for Kentucky Fried chicken on every year or two they never feel to disappoint. I went today and got the two piece dark meat extra crispy and with coleslaw because I do love their coleslaw so I asked for an extra coleslaw. I got it with the iced tea, which was good too. OK so enough of the good;how was the chicken you ask? Not good at all. When ordering the extra Cole slaw at 3.59 before tax for a small, I thought instead of the 8.99 2piece meal deal I could have gotten the 12.99 3 piece and skipped the Cole slaw. It is good but the amount they give you for basically $4 with tax is criminal. They used to sell it by the punt for about the same amount, long ago in days of yore apparently. But I'm glad now that I did not get the three piece. The extra crispy was more than crispy; it was absolutely hard as a rock. The chicken inside was smaller than the "crispy" skin so it was either cooked too much or old and reheated, otherwise the chicken would be the same size as the skin. I went at about 12:15-12;30 noon-ish so it wasn't that it was off busy hours. At least the biscuit was somewhat fresher than usual... but c'mon it's supposed to be known for the chicken and this was a huge disappointment. I went through the drive thru. And I guess I'll keep driving by from now til I forget that I used to kinda like it, and be silly enough to try again. I likat least when it wasn't either too greasy or too dry, but I guess those days are past. I'm really being generous with the three stars. At least the person taking the order was cheerful. read more

I had an odd craving for the kfc bowl. The bowl that used to cost $5 with a drink is now $8 without the drink. The bowl was only 1/2 full with 4 pieces of chicken. How disappointing. I don't do gravy and the cheese was almost non existent. $8 for mashed potatoes and corn seems pricey. I doubt I will have the craving again anytime soon. read more

Ordered and paid for a bucket combo one hour before pickup. Got there at pu time and told it would be 20minutes. Then manager cut that time in half. I asked for a refund and I would go elsewhere. I was told store could not issue refund, that I needed to contact KFC.com. Did so and now I wait for the $25 refund. KFC.com has no way to communicate with stores on such matters. The manager was actually arguing and defending not having order ready, and could care less that the customer was not happy. My father and I went to go into the KFC on Elm St. and the lobby was closed. No reason why. Just closed. So we went through the drive through. They got our order wrong. Again. We asked for four breasts and four thighs, extra crispy. We go to the window and they said they didn't have enough extra extra crispy to fill the the order. Fine original recipe is okay. I was there twice and manager was very unprofessional at McHenry KFC. Need new management. They never have enough pot pies ready! I left and went back and the pot pies still weren't ready after more than 45 mins. Then a customer was complaining inside the store and getting more attention than drive-thru line that have already been waiting for half an hour. New management needs to be taken into consideration at McHenry. End up leaving and going to Crystal Lake store and flew through the drive-thru in less than 5 minutes. Wasted over an hour and a half of my time for waiting, coming back and then driving all the way to Crystal Lake. Great Job at Crystal Lake but poor management at McHenry! read more

Make sure you check your food before you leave the drive thru. Ordered 3 meals, got two forks. All meals came with chocolate chip cookies and there weren't any in the bag. Went there for lunch yesterday and were very disappointed. My husband ordered tenders, I ordered a bowl with no gravy, and popcorn chicken, all to go. His tenders were so so, and my bowl had gravy, even though we specified "no gravy" twice. We were not given a receipt, and for $3, I was not going back. I ate the popcorn chicken and threw the bowl away. This is not the first time our order has been wrong at this location. What to do in McHenry when you have a taste for fried chicken? The Colonel?? Haven't been here for a few years as last time we came it was nasty. Plucked up our courage and walked in. It was cleaner than the last time. So far, so good. It was a weekday evening around 7:15 pm and the place was not busy inside but the drive-thru was humming! A good sign. The floor could have used a mop but most of the table tops were clean yay!!!! The chicken strips meal comes with 3 large chicken strips with a tasty, extra-crispy breading which was delish; 2 sides I chose the potato wedges and cole slaw and it came with a drink for 4.99 - that's a deal that is really hard to beat! I tried the their sweet tea which is very sweet. I mixed it with some of the unsweet tea and was able to get the right amount of sweetness for me. The potato wedges were seasoned but not overly so and were tasty. Well the cole slaw I do like and if you like a creamy, sweet style coleslaw with just a little tang you will like this. Also ordered was the 2 pc. chicken meal with the regular breading which I saw was eagerly devoured by my hubby. He also got the potato wedges. The food was well prepared, tasty, portions good, and the help were friendly and busily trying to get everyone their food - the drive thru was quite busy. I ordered a gallon of tea and when I brought it home and poured a glass, it was rancid. I called the store, they said 'OK Thank you' and hung up. I called the corporate office, as I was concerned for the health and welfare of others who may have been given the tea. They took my information and promised to look into it, but no one ever got back with me. They must know how bad their store is, because they didn't even offer me a coupon to come back, or a refund for my tea.
