We were in the area strawberry picking and wanted to find a local place for lunch. Based on Google reviews, we chose DC Cobb's. I'm glad we didn't skip this place based on the Yelp reviews. The restaurant is in the heart of downtown McHenry and next to the river. I highly recommend sitting in the enclosed patio. It's spacious, full of tvs, and has a nice view of the river. You can tell based on the menu and confirmed by our server, burgers are their thing. All kinds including beef, bison, chicken, turkey, veggie and fish, some choices are an up charge. The burgers come with a side, some have an up charge. Our server mentioned everything is made in-house. I feel it's a rarity of restaurants to made their food in-house so it made me excited for the food. Everything is reasonably price. I opted for the BFM burger and pickle chips ($2 up charge). The burger was juicy and well cooked. Their burgers are 1/2 lbs so it was big. The pickle chips were crunchy and really good. Portion was huge and worth the up charge. My lunch partner chose Cajun fries and they were crispy and flavorful. Our server was great! She was so nice! One negative, they allow dogs and many people brought their dogs. Since the space is enclosed, I did not like all the dogs while I was eating. It was tricky leaving since the hostess stand is located in the tight entrance and there was a dog right in the doorway. My lunch companion is deathly allergic to dogs. Luckily this dog owner was considerate and moved their dog so we could pass. Believe it or not, we came back again on Thursday night. My son is a band teacher in the area, and this was concert week. Thursday night was trivia night, and the vibe was still great. Shout out to our server, Lisa, who gave us the absolute BEST service! I built my own burger this time and went with the grass fed beef. This seems like it is probably a pretty neat place on the right night. Stunning location right on the river, beautiful main floor patio space and outdoor balcony on the 2nd floor. We visited on a Monday evening, so the place was understandably slow. The band that was there for cinco de mayo was just packing up. Our waiter was welcoming and seemed eager - even with it being so late. He let us know that we had about an hour until the kitchen closed and got in a round of drinks and our food in quickly. Exactly what I'd expect for a slow night, but now always what you get. The margaritas a few in our party got were exceptional (their review). Our server let us know they are so popular they batch make their margs and put them in kegs to serve on tap. Our apps were great. The Totchos were SO tasty - crispy tots and loaded with toppings. The gooey cheese on top was delicious. The fried pickles were okay. Not exceptionally crispy but they were flavorful. Overall a great experience, good food, great location, great service. The boys in the band (we have 8 guys plus a 5 man crew) ordered a wide variety of things, and the green room was totally silent (a sure sign the dig-in was going well). If the food is crap, it is the source of much discourse. McHenry is a distinct cruise from Stately Breakwind Manor, so we won't be dropping by Cobb's for a casual bite. I had the Harts Italian Beef sandwich. I've had it three different times and it was always very good. I've also had a burger and it was delicious as well. They have a nicely diverse menu. The 5th restaurant we called after leaving the winterfest in Lake Geneva and we had a reasonable wait for 25 minutes. We got old fashioned, beer and lemonade for the kids. The rock shrimp appetizer was really good and the spinach artichoke dip was pretty standard. We all had burgers, the son had bison, daughter got chicken, I had the impossible burger and hubby had the black bean. Everything and the sides were delicious. Tater tots, hung curd, max and. Having gone here for a few years now I think they had a period of adjustment BUT they are finally on point! My husband and I go frequently and have been delighted every time. The first and main reason is the staff we have had. Nick behind the bar and Abby serving us has been 5 plus star for sure and we really appreciate the friendliness and attentiveness that we received. It really makes or breaks the experience, and we cannot say enough about them! That is why we keep coming back. Had an okay experience here at DC Cobbs! The restaurant is located in small downtown McHenry. It looked cute from the outside and even has an outdoor patio on top of the restaurant. We didn't have reservations and came in on a Saturday around 6:30ish and were seated immediately. Our server was really sweet and friendly, but we felt super rushed; she didn't give us a lot of time and came frequently to get our orders and clean up. The food was alright - it was nothing special or something I'd necessarily recommend to others. They are known for their burgers, which my boyfriend and I both didn't get so I'm sure their burgers are the star of the show. I got the Asiago chicken wrap and added chipotle mayo. My boyfriend got the crispy chicken wrap but replaced mayo with Buffalo sauce. Both of our wraps were very ordinary and nothing crazy. They were around $15 each, which we felt were overpriced for the size and quality of the wraps. My margarita came with 3 alcohols but you'd never tell. Both our cocktails tasted like there was no liquor in it! Which is good or bad depending how you look at it ;) The fried pickles were yummy, but definitely more on the flimsier side with thinner breading. Even though it has a few plant based choices among these burgers, it's expensive burgers. There's also some other sandwiches. Because we were pretty hungry we got something big. It has a very big burger menu. There's like 15 or more types. Each of these is named for a celebrity or local attraction. They also have the option of making your own burgers with any of the many toppings. For the drinks, they usually have some kind of special going on. They last time had $4 Long Island Iced Teas. Even though these were kind of watery they still had quite a punch. The burgers are big, but pricy unfortunately. It's $14 for only a regular burger. Then add a few more dollars to make this an Impossible Burger, which comes with a side. Good stuff but not worth quite as much. They also charge for any toppings besides just the basic lettuce, onions, and tomatoes, so this will get even more pricy. Can't complain of anything about the taste of the drinks and food. It certainly was very good with all that but this was just too expensive for some plant based burgers honestly. These also will cost you even more if getting extra toppings. read more
