I came here a while ago as an undergrad at OSU and ordered the pho. The pho is lacking in meat and flavor and had a pretty watered down taste. Portion size is pretty standard. After a few days of such cold, snow, rain & miserable driving weather, we were ready for some good VN food. My husband & son had beef & meatballs Phở, and I had wonton noodle soup. For us as Vietnamese, the food was flavorful and acceptable. I'd prefer the wontons to have homemade wrapping, instead of the grocery store bought wonton wrappers which are too thick. I am not sure what has happened but the service you get here has gone down hill. If you want to phone in an order to save a little time, don't bother. You will still be waiting in the lobby for 45 minutes for you order and it probably won't be correct anyway. We attempted to dine in a few weeks ago and there was such a strong chemical smell in the back of the dining room (reminded me of a nail salon odor) we had to leave before we even ordered. Open for togo orders! I was looking for a good pho bowl in the area and this place is realllly good for that. One warning is that their regular size is a lot and their large is much more! I realllly enjoy coming here for pho and I always get their p1 and enjoy all the toppings of beansprouts, mint, and lime. Recently, I also tried their h3 "spring roll soft noodle pork bowl" and i enjoyed that too. Its a dish with noodles and lots of sliced lettuce and cucumbers on the side along with a garlic fish sauce that you would pour over. Their salad (aka spring) rolls also do not disappoint and come with my favorite sauce the sweet savory peanut sauce. I have yet to explore the rest of their menu, but i want to say that i feel it is authentic vietnamese food they offer here and I highly recommend coming here to try something different each time! read more

I will absolutely visit Kim Hoa's again. This is a wonderful restaurant and as stated on some of the other reviews, the owner is vegan! I feel supported and ensured that there will be no cross-contamination in my food here! THE FRESH ROLLS ARE AMAZING. I am very particular about my fresh rolls and these surpassed all my expectations; tightly wrapped, delicious thin layer of tofu wrapped around the green, minty insides. And THE PEANUT SAUCE!! The dollop of chili paste in the middle was delicious. I also had the vegan pho which was spectacularly tasty. Lovely, fragrant broth and a healthy helping of vegetables. Kim Hoa's is pretty one of a kind. There aren't a lot of Vietnamese options in Corvallis from what I know, but it's not like you would need other options with Kim Hoa there. The restaurant has an old school feel to it and you'll see what I mean when you go inside. We got seated pretty quickly and ordered really quickly. The owner came out and took our order from us. He was really friendly and joked around with us, which was probably the highlight of my dinner. I ordered a rice and pork dish and my friends ordered pho. This little gem is located in Corvallis and my friends and I were craving pho after a long night! We found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try since we didn't have any other options. If first impressions were everything, this place would get 5 stars. From the outside, the restaurant looked very authentic for a Vietnamese restaurant and the workers were also Vietnamese which is always a good sign when you're expecting authentic food. We were seated very quickly since it wasn't that crowded however once we got seated it was almost like we were forgotten about. No one checked on us for about 15 minutes even though we were clearly ready to order. Finally once they took our order we thought the experience would move on a little faster, however this process also took a very long time as well Once we got our food we were so happy that we didn't even care how long we were waiting anymore. The broth was very tasty and the noodles were cooked to perfection. Unfortunately, my friend found two hairs in her pho but didn't make a big deal about it and carried on with the meal. If I'm ever in Corvallis I would stop by again if I was ever craving pho. Had a lovely lunch here yesterday. Order the Pork Bao as an appetizer. Perfect texture on the dough portion and a nice amount of tasty filling. Hubby ordered the Pad Thai - nice sized portion, lots of chicken. Had great flavor and the aroma - yum! I ordered a small Special Beef Pho - the broth was flavored with ginger, green onion and basil. The beef balls were delicious and there was plenty of thin sliced, tender beef. Perfect for lunch. Service was quick and food arrived piping hot. Our server was attentive despite a full lunch crowd. Any Restaurant that forces the customer to tip are just wrong. Tips are the extra money that customer gives out when they feel rewarded through the service. Also it's not like I didn't tip him either. I have tipped him 50 cents plus i'm a fucking college student with low fund. This is what the owner said to me, "You know In America, minimum tip is 10% of the price and what you just tipped is ridiculous." What was ridiculous is his idiotic behavior not thanking the customer for coming by for their food but asking me to open up my wallet again. For something that you can get in Corvallis, their pho is really nice. Especially if you are craving for the restaurant pho taste. This review is based on a 3rd visit. Dated back to last December! But for some reason, their pho was pretty salty on the day that I went to dine in. Service wise-- not so great. Maybe everyone is cool with it, but having my bowl of food slammed on the table is not really appealing to me. When my party and I was being served, which I think was from the owner, he was in a small foul mood --which made it awkward.. (Probably because there was no customers at all at the time where we dined in.. ) but I felt as if he was being tortured to serve. Mr owner sir, please go outside.. take a breath of air and feel better okay? Please don't put on a grumpy cat face because it makes me sad to bother your time on serving my food. The dining experience was okay. Dead silence quiet. No music, which made it more awkward...the aquarium looked like a ghost town.. and the light was pretty moody..could have been better, but I won't really pick on that as much. The cashier section looked nothing like a paying station since it was right in front of the kitchen door. But likewise, I paid, tipped a good amount in equal of my food pricing..the owner disappeared all of a sudden...so I went back to my table to sip a drink of water before I left. Later after that, I was told that my tipping was too low...really? Last I recall, I for sure reimburse the service you gave in consideration of my kindness. When it comes to authentic Vietnamese food, this is the place to go in Corvallis. Family run and locally owned, this restaurant does not have a bad dish on the menu. Granted, there are some days when service can be slow, but the quality and price of the food make it worthwhile. I have sampled almost every dish on their menu and have never had a bad experience. Some highlights: Try the fresh salad rolls. They are some of the best in town. All of the house specials are good but the chicken curry with soft noodles and flame broiled pork with soft noodles are awesome. All of the pho are fantastic but the best is the M1(Special egg noodle soup). I have a friend who calls this Vietnamese penicillin because anytime either of us feels a cold coming on, we head over to Kim Hoa's and order a big bowl of this special chicken noodle soup. read more

I must admit that I have only ever ordered the chicken satay. That said, go . . . go now, because the chicken satay is one of the most delectable dishes I have ever had the pleasure to eat. I don't live in Corvallis, so every time I visit, I make at least one pilgrimage to Kimhoa's. The platter consists of rice, chicken, a spring roll, and two fried shrimp. While the assortment is good, the sauces really tie things together. The rice comes drenched in a sweet and spicy sauce, flecked with bits of pepper, that is just hot enough to make your nose run. It complements the saltier shrimp well. A side sauce--a little fishy--makes for good dipping, too. The chicken comes slightly charred. I can't tell if it's a product of the marinade or the cooking method, or both, but it works. All told, the chicken satay platter is more than the sum of its parts. The service is friendly and quick. In fact, you can pick up most orders within ten minutes of calling. A few notes about this family establishment: it's closed Sundays and used to be closed on Saturdays; family photos, taken in exotic and not-so-exotic locales grace the walls, lovingly mounted in a Plexiglass enclosure; small children inhabit the corner adjacent to the cash register anxiously waiting for their parents to punch out for the day; and a noise generator periodically spits out synthetic wild-bird sounds, part of the restaurant's not-totally-successful-yet-infinitely-endearing jungle theme. Personally, I feel these idiosyncrasies add the homey experience, but I do realize this can engender angst in other patrons. I recommend this place to anyone that has the chance to go. read more

I love this little place over off Circle Blvd. The noodle soups are to die for. The broth is the best I've tasted anywhere. The Pho is phenomenal. My girl always get the salad rolls with the peanut sauce--these are the best she's ever tried. Always fresh and come out quickly. I love the spring rolls. Sometimes these come out later than her salad rolls - I wish they would always come out together and BEFORE the soups. I need a minute to enjoy the delicious fare before I dig into my soup. The noodles in the broth are egg noodles and they taste like sesame oil and garlic. Two wonderful flavors. Oh and the sauce that comes with the spring rolls is spot on. The decor is a little outdated. The staff are very friendly. If the owner doesn't offer you a shot of whiskey he might be having an off day. He's very funny. I recommend this restaurant highly. What a delightful surprise when we needed something quick coming into town for an OSU women's basketball game. We didn't order ahead for take out and the kitchen was bustling. The woman taking orders and directing the kitchen was efficient and friendly. We ordered a large collection of appetizers and were told it would be about 35 minutes. They were ready in about 20! We were impressed because everything they make here is from scratch. This fact was evident. The food is delicious and fresh. The pork shumai was delicate and a savory delight! This place really hit the spot tonight. The food, while it was a bit bland, could easily be spiced up with the sauces on the table, which is a-ok in my book. I'd rather have it under seasoned than over seasoned! We made good use of the Sriracha and Soy sauces, that's for sure. I had the Pho (didn't like the meatballs in it though, weird texture), husband had a combo plate with teriyaki chicken and fried rice, and we started off with some pork potstickers. You can get things in a variety of sizes if you eat in, some have half orders, some small and large...though if you do to-go, it's only the one size. I've been twice now - each time ordering the P1 (beef pho with rice noodles). I love it. There is some spice in the broth that just makes my tastebuds happy. The small bowl of soup is large - it's big enough for dinner. And at 5.75, is a great value. The downside is that the sodas are not refillable, and are a measly 12oz. So, stick with the water. I've been coming here for maybe 20 years. It's in my neighborhood, and when we don't feel like cooking or cleaning the kitchen, it's our 'go to' place. A family owned and operated business that has been the springboard for several other eateries. I think maybe grandma is in the kitchen training everyone, and they have picked up the skill. The owner likes to chat it up at times, and he's an interesting fellow. The wait staff is friendly. Service is good, and food almost always is very prompt in coming. The place is clean, the decor is plain with a few posters and some family pictures by the register. The terikyaki chicken, the satay chicken, - served with rice & spring roll + a few fried shrimp, is good stuff, especially if you aren't good at ordering 'new' dishes at an Asian restaurant. A safe bet for the newcomer. The Pho is good, I've had better but it's pretty good. There is a second menu that you might have to ask for, which includes dishes from other regions of SE Asia, and it is all quite good. I can't recall the names, but I've never had anything off that menu that wasn't delicious. There's a rice-flour crepe thing with diced pork and shrimp, and a tangy sauce.. awesome (a bit hard to eat, maybe but it tastes great). A hidden gem in Corvallis! I never even looked at it since it was in a strip mall, but a friend took me there one day for lunch and I was bowled over. My "small" beef soup was gigantic and very flavorful. They also have very tasty salads, and I tried some of my friend's salmon; it was excellent. They have very old, kind of crummy decor, but I found it kind of charming. And you can't beat the prices. The owners came out to say hello too, and the husband did magic tricks for us at our table. This place is sadly the best place to get pho in town. The interior is super run down, I don't even wanna look at the ceiling and design. I wonder how often they wipe the dust and spiderwebs in the restaurant. Service is really off and on here. If they're in a good mood they'll check on you often, if they're not, you'll never see them until you go pay. Vegan review: The vegan salad rolls were adequate but the star was the peanut sauce, thick and with a light spicy flavor. I've tried many peanut sauces in little Saigon in southern California, and this is among the best for my liking. The rolls overall could be better if the tofu was more flavored. I wanted something different besides veggie vermicelli or pho (they have vegan options for both). I got the v9(?) which was the black tofu noodle entre. Not sure what black tofu was supposed to look like but it looked very meat like. I had to ask again if it was the black tofu entree. Flavor was good but it was too greasy for me. More bean sprouts could help with that. Their vegan fish sauce helped make it a little lighter and added some good flavor. In terms of service it was ok. It could have been because I was sitting by myself, and overall place was busy. I had to ask for my water to be refilled and it was hard to flag a waiter down. Food was three stars and so was service. Next time I'll try the some of the other vegan options and I'll update my review. read more

I had the Pho and veggie pot stickers. I placed the order right before they closed (i know i know but i was hungry dammit). Picked it up got home and realized that I did not get my lime, basil and bean sprouts(and jalepenos but I was told from my friend it never comes), I was super bummed bc by now they were closed. I called them and they answered(my friend told me welcome to small town living) and explained what they forgot and they proceeded to tell me that I have to request that due to food allergies. 1). I've never had to request that, and I eat a lot of Pho 2). It apparently was on the menu so my bad, AND they said I could stop by and pick some up (another perk of small town living my friend stated). I gladly did and they were just so nice! The Pho itself was just ok, I have had a lot better, but it wasnt bad. The veggie pot stickers were yummy! Nice and crispy and full!
