Today was my first visit at this barber shop, and I was so happy that they were open today on Sunday. Usually during the week I'm tied up with work events or soccer games. It had been a good two months since we I had a style, and it's been on my mind for a couple of weeks already. My hair is thick, and the back of the hair turns into a mop, instead of growing down like most people. I had been going to the same hair stylist for over fifteen years, but unfortunately for me she recently retired. I felt a really good vibe from the owner who was also working today, and he listened to me and understood exactly what I was looking for. Went on a Sunday morning for an appointment. The business was very clean and the owner and staff were friendly. My complaint is that there wasn't enough perks for the haircut and the price. For $34 plus a $7 tip that I spent, use of a straight razor with a shaving cream or balm around the neck and behind the ears would have greatly appreciated. Along with some type of hair product (gel, pomade, etc.) applied and styled by the barber and even some alcohol/after shave for the end of the haircut. The haircut felt very bare minimum and rushed. The "experience" was not there and I get it more customers more money but some extra perks added to the service and I would comeback and recommend to others. The haircut itself was good but it felt very expensive for what you pay. read more

I was a walk-in. I don't recall the name of my barber but it wasn't Khalid. And he was all business. No jibber-jabber, no hamming it up, or pretending to be my homie. He sat me down, asked me what I wanted it, and got to work. He was efficient and damn good at his craft. I walked out of there in less than 20 minutes with one of the best haircuts I've had in the last 3 years. As an introvert who was on a tight schedule, I appreciated the hell out of that cut. Having avoided a haircut for many, many months, wearing a head band or rubber band to deal with it, and wanting to avoid COVID exposure as much as possible, my hair had finally grown out of control. I live in Virginia Square and wanted to find a barber near by. Fortunately, I spotted a relatively new barber shop right near the entrance to the VS metro. I walked in and only had to wait a few minutes before Sandy called me to her chair. She asked a few pertinent questions and began to trim my hair. I had a few trepidations as my long locks fell to the floor. But, when she was finished, I looked like a new and younger man. My initial concerns about my thin hair looking thinner with a haircut were completely unfounded. With Sandy's skill my hair actually looked fuller despite being shorter. Needless to say, compliments have continued from my wife, family and friends. It is one of those things that you wonder why you didn't do it sooner. This is the best barber I've been to in years, and that includes more expensive salons I've tried. Khalid is a master of his craft and you can tell almost immediately that you're in great hands and he's going to make sure you leave satisfied. I sent a request for an appointment at 9, he responds in 5 minutes saying he could squeeze me in at 945 and then I got a cut and beard trim in 15 minutes that looks perfect. And for just $30! Khalid is a nice guy, but doesn't engage in small talk, which I really like. We aren't here to be friends, just a fella and his barber doing some work. I've also gotten my haircut by Sandy, the other barber that works here and she is also excellent. The only downside is that it's cash only, but I'm happy to oblige for such great cuts and prices. It would be cool, however, if I could pay cash via Venmo or PayPal. That would be the only thing I'd recommend Khalid look into. Regardless, 5 stars all the way! read more

Usually, I think Yelp is pretty accurate when there are more than 100 reviews, but not in this case. Khalid is a totally fine place to get a haircut, but it doesn't deserve five stars. I think that giving three stars is more accurate. It's difficult to get an appointment - Khalid books up pretty far in advance, and you need to take your chances on whether Sandy has a line (it's walk-in only). The place is tiny (it's a mini-studio inside of a collection of studios). So it's an uncomfortable place to wait. There are (sort of) two places to sit. Also presumably because they are so busy, there is plenty of hair on the floor; it's not like there is somebody going around with a broom as there is at a normal place. This place is also cash only. In 2020. When food trucks and Girl Scouts selling cookies take cards. So make sure that you bring like $31 in cash ($26 plus tip). The haircuts are . . . ok. I thought that Sandy did a great job. She listened to what I wanted and delivered exactly, paying close attention to detail. I did not have that experience with Khalid at all. He seemed more interested in staying on time (appointments are 15 minutes). Since we started a couple minutes behind, I was probably in the chair for like 11 or 12 minutes. I wasn't super happy with the resulting haircut either. Nothing about that experience gets five stars. Plenty of people seem to love this place, so they can fight over getting in there. read more

I am a woman who wears a man's haircut -- a buzz. I made an appointment online for Khalid to cut my hair. When I appeared for my appointment, Khalid declined to cut my hair. He said that for religious reasons he does not cut women's hair. He offered that I could re-book my appointment with his female colleague, but she was not present and I would have had to return. I got a great cut here, late on a Sunday afternoon before a thing at the Kennedy Center and I needed to look good. Friendly, no nonsense, even for a walk-in. The location is inside a commercial building, rather hidden among a bunch of "spa" providers, but it's a straight-ahead barber shop. These guys know their craft and I got a one of my best cuts... and I went in with unusually long hair, but Khalid brought it back down short and crisp just the way I like it. THESE GUYS KNOW THEIR CRAFT. Will consider another trip to DC just to get a trim. read more
