I started coming here bec of my hairstylist. She has a good practice here. When u walk in . It looks like a typical salon with few tables when waiting . The staff are friendly . They make sure and let ur stylist know ur waiting. It looks small in the front but wider in the back . They have a lot of services here . Price is just the typical salon charges. Since appointment is recommended, clients come here as early as they need. So pretty much it opens early but I think they close at 9 pm . If you're looking for a hairstylist , look for Vanessa , not only she's good and takes care of you she teaches in a school of cosmetology. The only reason why I gave 4 stars is bec in a heavy traffic day it's hard to get parking around this area and you may park at the back but it's a common parking for these shops read more

One of my besties called me the night before and just gave me the sad news: "I just broke up with _______." I said to her in reply, "Are you okay? You have the day off tomorrow? We're getting together." And so it began - a day of pampering, primping, laughing through the tears, and griping about men, all of which was done at Kharma Spa. My friend suggested this place since she's been here for years on end. Just one step into this place transported us into a state of tranquility that none of us have ever achieved from a day spa, much less one located off a busy street in a downtown business district. The three of us were very well taken cared of - with our massages, manis, pedis, and waxes. For me specifically, I received an hour deep tissue massage from Claire that was glorious. Granted, I prefer my massages on the painful side, almost straddling the point of excruciating pain. A little masochistic? Maybe. Yes, I left the table feeling battered instead of effleuraged, but that's okay. For some reason it's what gets me into a complete relaxed state of mind. It takes a strong masseuse like Claire to take on my threshold for pain. Overall, a wonderful spa. Chrissy the owner was very friendly and accommodating to our last minute reservations. She even did my friend's mani to move us along since we were there for nearly 4-5 hours. This review is strictly for my massage therapist CLAIRE... We came here for a girlfriend's spa day. She was getting married that week and Kharma (which is typically closed on Mondays) was nice enough to open up for us; we practically had the whole place to ourselves. The boutique itself is very very cute! They have a back room which we took over and they had comfy furniture to lounge on. My girlfriends got manicures and facials which they raved about.... Onto my massage...I booked a 90 min with Claire who was prompt and extremely friendly perhaps OVERLY friendly. She talked the WHOLE 90 minutes. I have never experienced a massage like that. I gave subtle ques that I just wanted to enjoy the massage and relax but she would always ask open ended questions or go on to talk about her new baby (which I'm sure is just as cute as she says). The massage itself was OK but for the price (90 min for $90, pretty steep), I'll stick to my Asian foot parlor. read more

Not sure about the rest of the services provided but the hair salon section is completely rude and unwilling to work with you or compromise on the style and look you want. My girlfriend went in to have her hair evaluated for a certain style and the stylist treated her like she was dumb and barely gave her anytime because she acted like she was too busy when she was the one who scheduled the time to show up and continued to explain to my gf why her hair is so damaged it can't be styled how she wanted and didn't even offer a solution or an alternative that could work for her. As a stylist you should build your clients self esteem and support their decisions whether you personally agree with it or not because at the end of the day it's their head, not yours. Don't blame the client and make them feel less than confident In themselves and their hair when it's your incapabilities and lack of skill that's the problem. read more

Bought a gift certificate for my mom to get a facial, she was cancelled on once claiming the employee was sick. My mother is very busy and never takes time for herself so when she finally had the time and wanted to use it she booked an appointment and got her facial, long story short they would not honor the gift certificate because their system "doesn't go back that far" even though the employee who signed the gift certificate was working that day. I've never heard of such horrible service in my life, if you are not going to honor a gift certificate after a certain time, maybe put an expiration date? Not to scam people out of their hard earned money, so 140 dollars later....WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS PLACE...or recommend anyone to go here. read more

However when I went this afternoon for side by side pedicures with my mom for Mother's Day I was very disappointed. The nail techs were great but the front desk staff were rude and dismissive. I came in this salon about 2 months ago. I have been meaning to write a review and haven't had time. When I go into a spa I expect to be greeted with a warm greeting, I was not. Then come to find out the person who greets me is the person doing my massage. The place is nice not beautiful but nice. At the spa I go they greet you warmly and take you back to get a robe and then give you a relaxing foot bath. A robe is extra here. It was kind of cold that day so I was excited to get on t he massage table to warm up! Well come to find out the table does not have a warmer. So I thought ok I will try to relax, nope the therapist talked the entire time! I can talk believe me, but not during massage. I actually took off work early only to sit and wait 40MINS AFTER MY APPOINTMENT TIME!!! I didn't even have time to have the whole mani and pedi, I had to pick up my kids. Bless the girls heart though, it was only her 2nd week there! But if we had started on time I would have maybe been able to enjoy it a tiny bit. Kharma Spa use to better service with old owner years ago. If I was rating massage therapists alone, I would give them a 4 star but all other services are only 1-2 stars. Got a pedicure here, the manicurist used saliva from her mouth to straighten a nail art brush out when there was already polish on the brush. When I saw this I almost wanted to vomit and then seeing her use that brush on my toes was hard to swallow. Other than that the pedicure was only ok for the price. The reason for the 1star is because of their Eyelash extensions service by Denise. Got mine done and it turned out horrible. It looked so fake even worse than false lashes you put on yourself. I've gotten lash extensions before at other places and it looks so natural people thought they were my own but Longer & thicker. Thought I'd try Denise because they had a special, don't waste your money!!! I was going on a trip but had to get them removed the next day because it look so bad. She didn't offer me a refund or a credit for other services. Wasted $150. read more

I have had hundreds of massages and facials in San Francisco, LA & Vegas. It is so difficult to find a great spa in town. I used to go to Tranquility Day Spa for a great massage until the owner's wife (my massage therapist left). Also, I would go to Perfect Balance in Lodi a few times a year for a facial and massage (they are excellent but I hate driving to Lodi). I loved Kharma Spa. I had a facial and massage. They were both excellent. I loved the hot stone massage the best because the massage therapist knew how to use the stones and was able to do a deep tissue massage. The front desk was nice when I was there (perhaps it is a new person). I definitely plan to go back for my birthday in a few months. Hooray! The massage was fine the therapist was great. BUT, and this is huge, the place was noisy. I walked in and instead of music they had the news on, they sat me in the pedicure area so I got to hear the news and ladies chatting loudly. When I moved back out front and complained the receptionist said- oh we have a quiet room. That room was a lot better. Still even during the massage one could not escape the sound of people walking through the hall and doors opening and closing.
