I always have a love/hate relationship with this place. There really is some of the best sushi on town and for the price you pay you get ALOT. Unlike most sushi places, Khins sits in a small strip mall, not very decorated on the inside and can hold maybe about 16 people at its tables. You get your drinks depending on how much you spend on your order so if you spend $6 or more you get 2 canned drinks and it just keeps going up from there. Now the part that drives me bonkers, Khins has some of the best egg rolls I have ever had in my life BUT, you never know when he will make them. I came in yesterday and ordered my egg rolls and I got these bite size garbage fire egg rolls. They taste bland and just aren't worth it compared to the good ones that come 3 to an order and look like they have been deep fried in deliciousness. Regardless of that small portion which bbn is the only reason I'm giving him a 4 star and not a 5, dont try to go in and order 2 or 3 different rolls thinking you can eat it all. When you order here you get the equivalent of 2 rolls per roll. It's some really good stuff! read more

Listen up, Yelp friends! This place is amazing! Don't judge a book by its cover. I don't mean that it looks dirty, but it's located in a strip mall and absolutely has a hole in the wall feel to it. It's sort of tucked away too, beside of a China King location. I didn't see anyone going in the China King, but they sure were funneling into Khin's. So, I'm not sure how China King stays in business. There was a long line at dinner time, but the one guy working the phone and the register was uber talented. He must've been the owner. I really wasn't in a sushi mood, but that's all I noticed on the menu on the wall. I heard the lady in front of me order the two meat dinner... score. The "pick two" as it's listed on the bottom of the menu, is a choice of two meat options: chicken, shrimp, spicy pork or sweet pork... in addition to a scoop of steamed, brown or fried rice. I ordered that and split two sushi rolls and the total came to $23.32, but because we were paying with cash, he said "even $21". I'll take that! Then he said "7 drinks". Seriously?! I was a bit confused by that, but one of the ladies in line explained that with every $6 that you spend, you get 2 free cans of soda. Not just your ordinary selection either. Every available flavor of Mountain Dew, Ale81, and so on. I think there were at least 20 soda selections to choose from. Seriously, a soda lover's dream. Our meals came out in about 10 minutes... by the same guy. How does he keep up?! It was amazing to watch his work ethic. With that and the "free drink" idea alone, it's no wonder this place is such a hit. THE FOOD!!! I don't claim to be a sushi expert or even admit that I'm not a frequent sushi connoisseur. My spicy shrimp roll was the best sushi that I've ever had. 10 huge pieces of the fattest sushi that you will ever shake a stick at. Everything was so fresh and there wasn't a hint of brown in the avocado, which tends to be common, even at some of the most upscale sushi places. Oh, and I think that they used at least a half of an avocado in that one roll, that's seriously how big it was. My pick two was excellent too. Such an amazing, small sushi restaurant! 2 free drinks with every $5 spent, I believe. I bought 3 rolls and got 7 drinks free. Yes... 7! I had a hard time choosing those drinks because there were so many to choose from. Did I mention the rolls are extremely fairly priced with the most expensive roll being $10 (special dragon roll). But what I find best and unique about this place is the Spicy Burmese Pork (or chicken). The entire menu is great, but this is the BEST item and literally cannot be found anywhere else but at Khin's. My husband got a couple and me (thr non sushi lover) got chicken and rice. We also got a veggie roll. Way too much food, but that is ok. I also loved that you get a ton of cans of pop with your meal. So.... the veggie roll was awesome and I ate half of it. I never get excited for them but the flavor was excellent. I did not like the chicken as it was bolliled chicken with no sauces..... so I wish I would have gone next door to the chinese resturant for non sushi food. My husband said his rolls were awesome. The service is 5++ stars. The sushi is 4 stars. For once, I'm gonna round up to the 5 stars. We found ourselves in Richmond one weekend because the muscle car needed new tires. Boyfriend is very proud of knowing how to use his newly installed Yelp app; unfortunately, he's not a fan of sushi at all. More for me though!! And he was sweet to find this place for me while we waited for the tires to be installed. Khin's was pretty hard to locate; it's in a strip mall with Hobby Lobby, pretty far off the road. It's also a bare bones kind of place, so don't expect much. But what it lacks in decor, it makes up in hospitality, which is pretty much above and beyond. Appetizers are about $3 and sushi is anywhere from $5 to $9. You really do get your money's worth. The rolls are pretty much double in size from other sushi joints, but a big factor in that is that they do use a lot of rice...moreso than what they are supposed to use. It's not a very noticeable skimping of the fish...it is more than adequate, which is why I can't really find reason to be annoyed about the abundance of rice. It is a little heavy on the saucing though, but I think that it's catering to their customer crowd...I'm more used to the plain; I don't even use soy sauce or wasabi half the time. And while it's not California or Chicago sushi, it's pretty good for being smack dab of horse and mountain country. Hilariously, I did appreciate that the rolls were served in styrofoam platters because we did have to make a hasty exit. So if you're looking for candles and muted lighting and soft music, this is not it. But what really puts them over the top is their service with a smile. The owner pretty much does everything, and he is always running around the place. You get free drinks with an order of $5, which is pretty much a roll...and it's not skimpy drinks either...it's bottled water or a can of pop. He even tried to load us with 8 bottles of water once we decided to take our half finished meals to go...my boyfriend was all for that, but I was like, What? Who does that?? Take your bottle; we have some already in the car!...but that hospitality...it's really sweet and not something you'd find common nowadays. read more

So I was on my way back to Atlanta after a business meeting in Lexington and I was really hoping to get some good sushi. I read the great reviews on Yelp and decided to stop here since it was, more or less, on my way. Khin's is definitely made for take-out with some tables for dine-in, but the styrofoam plates and canned sodas tell you where their heart is. The sushi is good... not awesome.... not bad... but good. What separates this place are the reasonable prices (focused on inexpensive rolls) and the friendly and efficient service. They also throw in free cans of soda with your order (amount of free soda is determined by size of order). Don't expect much in the way of dining room decorations... but that's ok, because the prices are cheap and the service is fast... and remember it's focus take out. Went to khin's for the first time tonight after hearing rave reviews from several friends. It did not disappoint. My husband had the seafood soup (a steal for $3) and it was awesome. It had huge pieces of crab and shrimp in a delicious broth. We ordered three rolls, which were also delicious (including the super Dragon roll, which is the most expensive roll on the menu at a whopping $9) and bigger than you'd find at most sushi places. Drinks come free with a $5 purchase and they loaded us up with 6 extra drinks to take home. My husband was also thrilled to discover they sell their extra large bottles of sriracha (only $5!). Our bill before the tip was $37 (and that included 2 of the extra large bottles of sriracha). A really great value considering we had leftover food and a 6 pack of drinks that came home with us. Long story short, we'll be returning and soon. Beats the heck out of the other sushi restaurant in town in terms of value, service and quality. On the downside, you can't enjoy a beer while eating the delicious sushi at khin's, but that isn't going to keep us away. read more

This is one of the best "hole in the wall" places in Richmond. The place is very tiny and very easily over looked. It usually stays pretty busy, especially during lunch hours. When it's busy, I wouldn't expect to actually sit down and eat in there. There's only a few tables; it's VERY cramped. Honestly, it makes my claustrophobia flare at times. It's clean though! The prices are amazing. The quality is amazing. You get a discount for using cash. The last time I ate here, I walked out with 3 free drinks. All of that makes up for the tiny space.
