Came to celebrate a late birthday lunch and it was such a wonderful experience. The interior was absolutely gorgeous, setting the perfect vibe for the afternoon. We started with the spicy tuna appetizer, which was fresh and flavorful. For my roll, I ordered the Kentucky Hills the Rock Shrimp--fried to perfection--and the Lobster Bomb, which was so unique with hearty chunks of lobster in the sauce. The fish was fresh and high quality, and the service was excellent--friendly, attentive, and welcoming despite the holiday. The only downside was that there was no real bartender available. Still, the quality of the food and the great service made it an enjoyable visit, and we would definitely return. A suggestion would be to have gluten-free options marked on the menu. I'm fortunate to meet up friends once or twice a year in Kentucky. Coming from Hawaii, people are often surprised when I say Lexington is home to good sushi bars. Omakase Sushi and Sake surpasses good and moves into the Great category for me. I've been fortunate to visit twice over the 8 months taking Lexington natives with me and every has commented that it's one of if not the best dining experiences they have had! The Great: Start of with great sushi, freshest ingredients, creative plating, and fantastic options of adult beverages whether it be Sake, Beer, or Whiskey. The A5 Wagyu hot stone appetizer was fantastic as well as a grilled miso glazed cod. The Omakase Nigiri set is the way to go and I love the season salts that lets you play with the flavors. The Good: So many great things my only downside is I don't have access to the large menu! There are so many other items I want to try but I can never pass up the Omakase set! There may be a few items that some newer sushi lovers may find challenging such as the sweet shrimp or sea urchin but I encourage exploration as it is truly a culinary experience. The Okay: I've heard it's at times difficult to get a reservation here so my recommendation is book early! you will not be disappointed. Overall: Omakase Sushi & Sake bar has become my go to Sushi spot whenever I'm fortunate enough to visit. Fantastic date night at Omakase on E High St. The sushi was splendid. We ordered the volcano roll (without Serrano peppers), the sex on the beach roll and the shrimp tempura roll. Was very excited to try this new spot in Chevy Chase. They've done a nice job updating the interior and the decor is sleek and modern but still warm, inviting, and comfortable. The menu has an excellent array of sushi dishes, from nigiri/sashimi selections to maki rolls to specialty rolls. They also offer some interesting salads (will try the tuna and avocado next time) and appetizers. We ordered the Chevy Chase roll, the Keeneland roll, and I had a piece of Chutoro. Everything was delicious and well prepared, though we were the only ones in the restaurant and it seemed to take a long time to produce just two rolls. Our server was very nice and attentive. Everyone seemed very friendly. Excellent addition to the Lexington dining scene but have to dock a point for the very high prices. $8 for one piece of very small Chutoro nigiri is even more expensive than I pay at a lot of place in Washington, DC. I'm worried about the longevity of this spot due to pricing. I also think the menu would benefit from a non-omakase nigiri/sashimi selection like a Chirashi or even pre-set nigiri selection. Though we didn't order any drinks, the bar boasts an incredible selection of both Japanese whiskies and bourbons. Will absolutely be back to try a few! Best selection I've not only seen in Kentucky but almost anywhere I've been. Will definitely return to do the actual Omakase menu, which is 12 pieces for $89. What an incredible omakase experience! We came here for our anniversary after freshly moving to Lexington. We opted for a few rolls and the omakase set. I have to say that I was pleasantly impressed. I didn't expect to find fresh sushi in a landlocked state but WOW, the fish was fresh and the rolls were stunning. The nigiri was BEYOND words (see pic attached). I absolutely loved that each nigiri was beautifully handcrafted with a different main ingredient and different accompaniment. The tasting salts were all yummy in their own way, my favorite being the truffle salt. The meal came with both soup and salad and was definitely worth the price. The other thing to mention is their insanely large list of Japanese whisky's. We tried two different ones and both were smooth and delicious. read more

I was surprised to find a restaurant here in Lexington that actually offers high quality sushi. I opted for the omakase set. In an interesting twist, the tray comes with nine unique salts/spices/seasonings (ghost pepper salt, truffle salt, yuzu kosho, etc.). However I have mixed feelings on this approach. Almost all of the nigiri pieces already had some sort of accompaniment. In some cases I felt like adding any of the salts would overcomplicate the flavors. Regardless, the quality of the fish here is excellent, which is really what matters here. The service was also good. Last night was not a great experience at Omakase. I like to come here once a month when we are craving sushi and wanting to spend the $$ for it since it's pretty high-end. Service at the bar is usually great, this time not so much. I made a reservation for five girls for my mom's birthday. We got no greeting, no interaction with the bar hosts took us forever to get anything and everything was wrong. Never asked if we wanted more drinks. had to ask three times for Ginger wasabi and Ponzo. Had to ask twice for napkins. We are really usually low maintenance just wanting to have a good time. When the bartender behind the bar brought back the correct dish she still didn't know which roll was which. It wasnt that busy several empty bar seats around us. Needless to say we were really disappointed this time especially for a birthday dinner. They need to get some great people back behind the bar again. Luckily the quality is great.
