I usually love cookout, the food is great and most of the time the employees are nice. I went tonight 01/25/24, at about 11:45pm. It looked like they were a little short staffed and as a service worker myself I understand being stressed. When I pulled up to the speaker someone said I'll be right with you, and I sat there waiting for 5 minutes. This part didn't bother me too much, but after ordering my first item, they asked if I'd like anything else, and I said I wanted a plain cheeseburger. At this point, I sat there for awhile in silence, then finally they came back and asked again if I'd like anything else. I said that was all and she gave me my total. When I got to the window, she was there right away with my drink and I gave her my card. When she handed me my food, I told her I was missing my cheeseburger and she got annoyed and said "well I didn't get that". This was the part that upset me. I waited patiently while what normally takes a couple minutes took 3 times the usual wait, and she got upset with me when I asked politely about my burger. I admit that I was not the nicest with my response after that, I pointed out that she left halfway through taking my order right after asking me a question and it wasn't my fault she didn't tell me she missed what I said. She said "what do you want me to ring it in?" And got annoyed and closed the window when I said yes. She then charged me $4.76 for my $2 plain cheeseburger. As soon as she handed me the bag with my food she walked away from the window and didn't come back, so when I looked into my bag to see the receipt and figure out why my total was so high, I found that she didn't give me one. Absolutely terrible service. I kid you not I sat at the ordering screen for 10 minutes before I pulled up to the window so I could put an order in. Then while ordering the worker was not only rude but inconsiderate for how I just waited 10 minutes I ordered a burger tray with Cajun fries and received regular fries. After she hands me the food and immediately closes the window with no sauces or anything not even cookout sauce like this has to be a joke the worst service I've ever received. Definitely need to do a lot better hiring randoms I guess. read more

Very disappointing for a place that in the past I would have rated 4 or even 5*. I've been a huge Cook Out fan since my youth in North Carolina... unfortunately, the southern hospitality vibe didn't transpire here today. My buddy and I were rushed to order even though there was no one behind us, the gentleman taking our order talked so fast that we didn't understand the explanations he was giving us. After sitting down and taking a deep breath I was hopeful just to enjoy a good meal but it only got worse. When I received my double cheeseburger and "double" order of cheese bites I was baffled. As seen in the picture I posted here, there was barely one side, let alone two. So I went to the front to see if they forgot to add the second part of the cheese bites. I was told that my order was correct, they only give 12bites for a double order and that "we are sorry it's not a lot of food for a side." I started to walk away but then realized that this was not acceptable due to how small the bites were (the smallest was about the size of a pea). When talking to a manger all I got was "I'm sorry" and this is the standard of how to serve cheese bites according to upper management. There was no offer to better the situation, for different sides, and I really felt she was just rushing me off. The food was subpar and the small amount of cheese bites I did have were great dipped in some ranch. I really hope that this location can better meet the needs of the customers, offer alternatives, and slow down enough to help a person purchasing items to feel welcome at their establishment. As for now, I don't know if I will return back to this location for a while... pretty upsetting when a few months ago when I was there on a super busy day, the food was great, portions of the sides were not an issue, and the staff was so much more friendly. read more

Fresh burgers, nice toppings including a decent tomato m, generous pickle, and fresh crisp lettuce. I had the junior with 2 sides which was more than enough. And for $6 with tax, it was a lot of food. Saw a bunch of complaints about the amount of sides. They seemed reasonable for the cost and given that most of us are not Olympic athletes needing 5000 calories a day :) Got a peanut butter banana shake. Good quality ice cream, fresh banana chunks, almost a little too big but way more reasonable than what most places give you. And only $1 up charge to add to a meal. read more

My fiancé and I were stopping for gas on our way back to Ohio and were hungry so we decided to stop here as opposed to the usual McDonald's/Burger King. Neither of us had ever heard of this restaurant so we figured we'd give it a go. They have a double drive through which was kinda cool and made it efficient to get through, though when we were there it wasn't crowded at all. I ordered a combo: two corn dogs with cheese bites and onion rings, and my fiancé ordered one, Cajun chicken sandwich with fries. We both got drinks. I got a "huge tea" which was actually huge lol they were lying. My food was okay. The sides were a bit skimpy in portion (only 4 cheese bites and 4 onion rings). The cheese bites were good. The corn dogs were pretty standard and the onion rings really had no taste. So overall, the meal was okay, but I'm still glad we stopped and gave it a try. read more

First time here. Used the drive thru. The cashier was friendly and leasing. I ordered the pork Bbq sandwich, onion rings and chicken wrap. My son ordered a burger with fries and cole slaw. A friendly cashier took my payment. I was happy until my order came out. A second male employee handed me our food in 2 small covered trays and closed the window..no napkins, no fork, no condiments. When I finally got his attention to ask for these items he looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language. How was I going to eat coleslaw without a fork? Why are napkins a special request. My Bbq sandwich didn't have any Bbq sauce on it. The onions rings were hot. My sons French fries were hot. The cole slaw was a little dry and had a grainy texture. I have visited a few Cook-Out locations, and this one is always my favorite. We visited this location on the Sunday of July 4th weekend, and the drive-thru was as crowded as we expected (due to COVID, we did not want to go indoors). Our food was hot and delicious, and if I had to change anything (as Gordon Ramsey always says), my onion rings would be a bit more crispy. I always appreciate that Cook-Out is fast, affordable, customizable, and offers unique drinks and shakes. My girlfriend's watermelon shake was delicious!!! I had a Cheerwine, which stayed cold all the way to Louisville as I savored each sip. My chicken tenders were crispy and juicy and everything I wanted after a late night. i understand cookout isnt exactly classy dining or held to a high standard, but there comes a point when some people shouldnt be allowed to work with the public. my family and i are on our way home and pulled off the interstate for some cookout because we USUALLY love it. I was rudely greeted at the microphone by a girl and before i could finish every other word i said she would interrupt me "ARE YOU DONE", "IS THAT IT", telling me to pull up before i was even finished. which i could understand if i had a ton of meals to orders to place, buy it was 3 trays for 3 people on 1 ticket. Once we got to the window it took my sister a minute to find the card because it is dark (its 11pm) I repeatedly tell the woman that im sorry for the inconvenience. I used to really love eating at this place. Things have changed and not necessarily for the better. I really only have 2 gripes, but they really affect my decision. Some days their chicken quesadilla is not crispy and has 0 sauce. The 2nd thing is the constant ketchup embargo that They practice. Since Richmond is SLIM with other late night eateries, Cookout is about as good as it gets. A great thing about this restaurant is their trays. Who doesn't enjoy a restaurant where you can get a quesadilla or chicken nuggets as a side item?! My personal go-to is the cheeseburger with fries and hushpuppies. Their grilled chicken sandwich is really good as well. Honestly, their hushpuppies slap so hard. They are delicious. Cookout has really good milkshakes. There are so many flavors you can get. I love the peach, peanut butter and banana pudding shakes. They are a must-have. The service here is actually pretty good for a fast food restaurant. I can only imagine dealing with late night people could make someone rude or annoyed working, but everyone was very pleasant when we visited. The service is also quick and seemed very orderly. A step above rallyes that's not saying much.... seems all they care about is to take your money. The drive thru menu seems misleading and hard to decipher...not impressed at all by how they present the menu and it's always a rush job seems like....I usually just order off the cuff I'll say " a double cheeseburger with a side of onion rings" so moving on seems like the hamburgers are small and the onion ring orders are small too. They know the freeway is right there so maybe they figure we're just stopping by on our way to hooterville or something I dunno. This is a good place to get a decent, no-frills, thick burger served up to you "old-school" wrapped in foil. They have several topping options, so you can customize the burger to your liking. The burger patties are very thick, so unless you're super hungry or have a huge appetite, you won't need to get a double here. These aren't steak & shake, culver's or freddie's type burgers. This is the kind of burger your dad made on the grill when you were a kid. Or maybe your uncle, you get the point. It's more of a home style patty. The fries are outstanding! I was so excited by the concept of this place. There is nothing better to me than a good ole American burger. I am also a huge proponent of the "choose your own" sort of style of dining so this seemed a perfect fit for me. I am only in town for a training so I had to order my food to go, which I learned is essentially how it all comes anyway ( in a crisp white styrofoam box). I ordered the cookout tray with a regular hamburger, slaw and onion rings. This particular meal also came with a "Huge tea", which was legitimately huge. When I got back to my training site and opened up the box I have to admit I was initially disappointed. There were 4 onion rings. FOUR. But as I unwrapped the burger from its foil and cracked open the slaw I got to thinking. This was a rather large burger, two sides and a drink for about $5.80. That's insanely cheap! I can live with four onion rings. The burger was a perfect southern summer cook out style burger, the slaw was creamy and zesty and the onion rings had just the right crunch. Oh! And the sweet tea! I don't even consider what they make in Cincy to be sweet tea, so I usually only drink it from places Lexington or south, and I'm glad I did today. It was absolutely perfect! Never heard of, or ate at a Cookout before. I was hungry and this was across from the gas station, so it sounded like a good option especially with the Yelp reviews and ratings. Upon walking in i liked the place but the menu was a bit tricky to figure out. After looking it over for a while, i got some "Value tray" or something like that with a double cheeseburger,corn dog and fries with a Coke not bad for $6. The food was pretty decent considering the money. The corn dog seemed pretty burnt as was my fiance's though maybe that's how they cook them? The bacon wrap side item is just two pieces of rubbery flavorless bacon in a cold tortilla out of the store wrapper. The onion rings side item were (4) small rings that were over-fried in old oil.
