I dropped by around lunchtime on a weekend, and it was fairly busy with many shoppers looking for a deal. Very bare bones type of store, not much ambiance to be mentioned. There are some great bargains to be found, like 99¢ pickled peppers! However, be wary of the freezer section - many items were very expired and had significant frostburn. On my last visit, there was a lot of Halo Top, but none this time. It seems they cycle through whatever products are handed off from other places. It's worth dropping by now and then to see what new deals may be available. read more

Grocery Outlet is a hidden gem with bargain deals on great products. Like $1 MEALS, what? It's a small store with a great selection of shelf-stable and frozen goods. Great options for vegetarians or those who require gluten-free options. Frozen chicken strips, fries, $4 for four frozen pre-packaged meals/snacks! I'm surprised to see prices like this. My only regret is that I didn't come here with an emptier fridge so I could stock up. On this trip, I see a large roll of tostada tortillas for $1, inspiring me to make a Mexican night out of this. Great for any parents who want to stock some food for the family and don't have time to meal-prep. read more

Review #400! I came here because I was informed that this place sells beyond meat burgers & sausages. I ended up filling my whole freezer! While this is not a vegan store, they do carry plenty of bulk vegan and vegetarian products at very low prices. Beyond meat, Gardein, Yves, you name it, burgers, sausages, meatballs, chicken tendies, even shrimps! I filled up my whole freezer for under $50! All quality brand products, none of that cheap store brand BS! And since it's vegan you don't even have to worry about expiration dates (Don't quote me on that!). I strongly recommend Grocery outlet for those who are planning a BBQ. Grab few Beyond burgers and sausages too because you don't want a hungry vegan at your BBQ, trust me! Huge selection of food that is constantly changing (stock up if you find a favourite because it may not be there next time). A few items are more expensive than the grocery store, but otherwise you can score some great deals. Lots of frozen options including baked goods, proteins, and meals. read more

One day, I was admiring some cute pillows that my fellow Yelper, Jennifer, had snapped and posted. I love novelty items and candy. Why not get them both in pillows, right? She let me know that there were tons of them at The Grocery Outlet. I needed to get all six varieties, too. I had just come back from a flight from Copenhagen. I was staying overnight at a hotel to wait for my boyfriend to fly back from his trip from Kolkata early on Sunday morning. I was debating whether I had the energy to swing by this store heading home. I did! It boggles my mind that I had no idea that such a store exists. It sells decent grocery items with slight imperfections (the due date may have past by a few days, for instance) at cheap prices. As an example, there were soy beverage cartons that were going for $0.50 each due to the expiration date having passed a couple of days ago. Naturally, you should be aware of the date, but it is normally a guideline and not a strict get-rid-of-it-or-the-world-will-self-destruct alert. The store had my favourite cakey, sugary cookies for $0.99 a box. OMG! Everything was so cheap, including a huge bag of frozen, sliced mushrooms for $5 a bag. I tried out these ready-to-eat egg bakes. They were tasty and amazing. I bought one box and got another for free. Excellent! There are also options for vegans. When I return, I will give the sweet and sour vegan chicken bites a try, and see how yummy they are. This store does not accept credit cards. You can only pay by cash or debit. Almost Perfect which I think is perfect for anyone that is on a budget, don't like to pay full price and always wants a discount. I am definitely a "Almost Perfect' fan! A whole bag of Chicken Nuggets for $1.99?! Seattle Best Coffee for $3.99 (expiry date in 2 months) 1 kg Patty for $3.97 Jelly Beans $2.99 various flavours for $2.99 (these won't expire till 2013) Mini Butter Tart of 32 for $5.97 Freezer and Freezer of frozen food, dessert and everything you can think of.... Update 2017-04-08: The store has changed its name from "Almost Perfect" to "The Grocery Outlet." I asked the staff there and they said it's just a name change. Ownership and management remains the same. Also, the Town Shoes Outlet that used to be next door has closed down :( The rest of my original review below still stands. Original review: I discovered this place by accident. I saw the Town Shoes Outlet next door on the way to the Downsview Park Merchant's Market, so on the way back home I stopped at the Town Shoes Outlet and stuck my head into Almost Perfect to see what it's all about. Am I ever glad that I discovered this place. I never knew that such a place existed. They sell overstock, discontinued, imperfect (i.e broken cookies, misshapen chocolates, etc.), close-to-expiry and expired products for a heavily discounted price. Apparently their inventory changes often and essentially you never know what you will find here. I saw boxes of Pot of Gold chocolates for $2.49. Huge bags of frozen Oliveri tortellini for $3.99. Terra Chips 3 bags for $5. They had gluten free items and some gourmet products too. They had lots of St. Yves vegetarian products for about a quarter of the regular retail price. I bought a box of 36 Sunrype "Fruit to go" bars for $4.99 (expiry in 1 month). Prices are awesome. And honestly, I don't mind if my chicken nuggets are a little wonky looking. I personally would not buy expired products because I have had previous bad experiences with things tasting rancid when they are past their "best before" date (not here, but at other places). However, their website assures customers that all their products are safe to eat. I would buy things that are close to expiry if I intend to eat them quickly. I can't believe this place has existed for 15 years and I never knew about it. I know about it now and I love it! read more

Cannot give this store less than 5 stars. Grocery at unbelievable prices. The frequent changing inventory makes it seem like a new store each time you visit, selling crazy cheap snacks and cakes (along with a very large assortment of frozen goods - think veggies, burgers, lasagna). I am not ashamed to say I usually come out with at least 10 bags of family sized chips. They also have 1 kg bags of mini peanut butter cups for $5. Have a potluck to go to and you are it for desserts? Go here. Havent found anything expired, the reason they are so cheap is because of overstock from other retailers. read more

It's hard for me to be objective about this review - quite honestly, Almost Perfect rocks my world. Almost Perfect is a beacon of light in the hazy commercial/industrial region near Downsview Park. This unique "discount food outlet" stocks a plethora of single-edition and close-to-expiry products. While there is no shortage of frozen discount food, there is a surprising quantity of high end gourmet products. The stock changes on a weekly basis, and the prices are truly, exceptionally low. While you might not find everything you're looking for on a particular visit, chances are good that you'll score a deal that delights. Although the store name suggests that stock is "imperfect", I've never seen anything spoiled or rotten here. Many of the products are close to the expiration dates, but everything I've bought tasted fine. I go to this store about twice a week and the staff are generally friendly and service is good. TTC riders can access this location via bus route 84 (transfer from Sheppard or Downsview subway station). read more

Dissatisfied consumer. I have spent many $$ here but within the last 6 months the quality of merchandise has taken a nose dive. Expired food with very visible mold. Frozen items defrosted and baked with clear visible mold patches only to have to toss it it in the garbage! Rancid smells emitting from packages upon opening. read more

Love this place! Best finds have included Terra chips for under $2 and frozen Junior's cheesecake. You can expect to find : - Cookies, snack bars, crackers, chips, candy, gum, chocolate - Sauces, condiments, herbs, canned goods - Beverages, tea, frozen treats (ex. posicles) - Frozen pastries, bread, seafood, meat, entrees (ex. pasta trays, beef patties, chicken tenders and more!) Some are items are seasonal, others are seconds (ex. mis-shapened) and some just overstock. Selection changes so if I think something might be awesome, I'll sample it in parking lot and pop back in to get more if needed... :P Bring your own bags or there are free boxes by the door. Last time we were here the store was called Almost Perfect, now it's The Grocery Outlet. Doesn't matter, it's still great. This is the go-to place for big bags of reasonably priced frozen fruits, veggies and meats etc. They also sell off all kinds of non frozen overstock packaged items such as food and snacks at unbelievable prices. We always leave with a lot more than we planned on buying, but that's okay because we know we saved a bundle overall. Check it out next time you're in the Allen Road and Sheppard area. read more

Vegans and other dietary sensitive folks will find lots of great options here, making it a great alternative to Whole Foods for those specialty foods.
