    Rice with raisins and carrots

Looking for a place for lunch on Christmas Day that wasn't Chinese. This came recommended. Started with bolani which is stuffed bread. It was very lightly stuffed - mostly hollow and a little greasy. A cucumber salad for the table was a bit bland Chicken qorma which was little pieces of bony chicken in a tomato type sauce Afghan kabuli rice with raisins and carrots - also pretty bland. Tried it. Not my cup of tea

I drive by this shop all the time but never got around to trying it until recently. The people working and interacting with customers were very kind and willing to talk about things if you ask them anything. As for the food, I am not sure if it's how Afghan flavor is but I felt comfortable eating here. It wasn't aggressive with seasoning nor was it under seasoned or undercooked. It was just pleasant. When the dishes arrived at our table, it seemed like the proportions were small in appearance but by the end of it, I was full and satisfied with the proportions. Even took a bit of the leftovers home and it was nice to have the next day. I would really like to come here again. They have some raised almost sofa cushion seating in one corner of the restaurant. Maybe when I'm trying to relax with friends I can bring them there to chat. It sounds like it could be nice to try

I've never had food and qahwa this good before--absolutely outstanding! The flavors were authentic, rich, and truly unforgettable. Every bite felt like a taste of real Afghan cuisine. Not only was the food delicious, but the presentation and service were top-notch as well. And the qahwa... simply amazing! Easily the best I've ever had. This place is definitely worth visiting again and again. Highly recommended!

Delicious food at a great price. I ordered two wraps to-go but decided to sit in their outdoor seating. The owner is so kind and welcoming.

Good service good food, must try. We ordered khorasan combo and chapli kabab. Both were really good , well marinated. Also they don't serve the banned drinks , Salam cola also got served tental and barley soup and Afghani bread , overall great experience.

It was my first time to eat Afghan food. Everything we had was a flavor bomb. The aroma of meats was great! Bolani, the flatbread reminded me of Chinese scallion pancakes. If you like ethnic spice flavor, you will enjoy it here.

Friday night is an adventure night. What do food lovers do?--search for something new to eat. Enroute to pick up my son in Ewing township in NJ, we passed by Route 27 and looking for food to satisfy our hunger, we passed by a place that says "Authentic Afghan Cuisine". Hmmm, never tried it so u-turn we go and parked behind the place. Pleasant people greeted us and a clean place too. There was a "stage-like" area with pillows and carpet and table. I guess that's how traditional Afghan dining room looks like. We didn't sit in that but instead had a regular marble table with comfy white chairs. Server came and welcomed us and menu was given. Their menu is in their native tongue but a detailed explanation written in English is written under each choices. Not a lot but presented well and organized. Lentil soup was then served and an array of sauce with specific instruction that the "red" one is spicy and gave us a warning to go easy with it. The white sauce which I believed is made of yogurt was creamy and tasty and their green sauce is a delight as well. We ordered hummus that was served with their warm nan ( it was bread, not sure if it was called nan), then for our meal, hubby chose Kandahar Special and I ordered their Chicken Kofta. Meals were delivered warm and it was pretty quick. Served with rice and salad--we were happy people in the end. Price is good, food is tasty, not lacking flavor, ambiance is great, their cutleries were gold and they had marble tables...in all honesty--I was surprised trying this cuisine and happy! We'll be back soon perhaps bring our boys with us so we can try sitting on those pillows!

Array of sauces. Spicy one was yummmmmmy!

Delicious! One of my best friends is Afghan. I missed her mom's Borani Banjan and I was so happy to see it on the menu. Just as delicious as I remember it. I have dined in and also have done take out. Both experiences were awesome. Staff is friendly and so accommodating. Very pleasant experience. Will be in regular rotation for my household.

Everything from the Chicken Chapli Kabob, Chicken Gyro Platter, Chicken Tikka Masala, Beef Kabob to the fresh made naan is delicious. The hummus is a must try. The prices are still extremely reasonable and the portion sizes are large. The service and staff is also very personable, friendly and full of suggestions. The interior has a casual front side with tables and the back has some booths with some ethnic decor. There are not many Afghan restaurants in the area, but hands down this is one of the best ones I've been too. I definitely plan on continuing to eat here.

We were told it would take 30-35 minutes, which is fine for cooked to order food. It really wasn't very busy, but the order took 50 minutes. The order was sitting on their counter ready to go, but it appeared they were backed up with making the bread. Once the bread came out, they bagged it up and we were ready to go. They almost forgot to give us the side salad, but they remembered before we left. Now for the food... - The bread that we waited for- was doughy and undercooked. It had burnt pieces stuck to it and they were not shaped as nicely as their usual bread. - The hummus side that we ordered, which was almost $8, was a half filled half pint container (very small amount) of what appeared more like a sauce rather than the thick hummus we are accustomed t. I wouldn't order this again. - The salad was watery...they need to drain the water better - The rice was cold - I think it was sitting out too long - Now for the main event - the meats - we enjoyed the flavor. This saved our dinner, we did enjoy the meats. We called them about the bread and they were apologetic, and told us we can stop by for bread next time we are there. As this is one of my favorite restaurants, I want to give them an opportunity to do better next time! The afghan bread and their rice have alway been my favorite part of their meals! I think it was an off night for them, I'd definitely give them a chance again in the future.

The service was friendly, and the food came out extremely quickly. I felt we were being rushed just a tad, but not a huge deal. For appetizers, the falafel ($7?), Mantu ($8?), and bholani cadu ($6?) were ordered. Regarding the falafel, there were five to an order. The falafel was very crispy and had decent flavor. I thought they needed a little more seasoning present. The Mantu were Afghan style dumplings filled with ground beef, onions, and seasonings. It was garnished with homemade mint yogurt and lentil sauce. This was light and soft with tons of flavor. The dumplings were filled appropriately, and the lentil sauce was a pleasant addition. The bholani cadu was a thin fried pastry filled with butternut squash and seasoned with fresh herbs and spices. This was interesting. The wonton was very crispy. The squash filling was sweeter than I thought, but still tasty. I also might add all of the three sauces provided at the tables were good, with the cilantro one being my favorite (cilantro I believe anyway). For my entrée, I had the lamb shank ($38?). It came with a soup, salad, a choice of rice, and naan. The soup appeared to be a lentil soup. It came out hot and was very pleasant. The salad consisted of tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers. It was prepared nicely as all the pieces were small and a good size portion. The simple dressing was great too. The lamb shank came with a few vegetables. The lamb was extremely tender, but not much meat was on the bone. There needed to be a little more seasoning too as it was lacking. I am just glad the lamb was so tender. I went with the Kabuli rice which had steamed carrots and raisins on top. This was fluffy and flavorful with a ton of it. The naan was okay, a little too crispy. I also tried the lamb chops. They had an unreal cook on them and seasoned well. I also tried the zamarud rice, which was good too. For dessert, the rice pudding ($8?) was ordered. It was creamy and filling. The nice crunch from the pistachios on top was a good addition. Will I go back? I would, yes.

For the price and flavor it was so worth it. I got two meals out of mine. I got the gyro platter and it probably was one of the tastiest meals I've had in a long time. I thought the chicken was seasoned and flavorful. But by far, the best part was the white sauce. I would pair it with the mango lassi and it was such a great explosion of flavors - both savory and sweet. I will say they ask whether you're okay with onions and raisins in your platter. I liked them but I know raisins might not be what most people prefer to add to their rice. Service was fast. You can either order at the front table or at your seat. They got the food in a reasonable amount of time. The place looks small from the outside, but when you walk in, there's a back room worth of 30 people worth of seating. It's extremely cozy inside. There's also a parking lot right next to the restaurant and also across the street. The lot right next door is kinda small though, so you might need to loop around. Parking shouldn't be a problem and you can get a really good stop if you're lucky.

The country's cuisine reflects its multicultural history, with influences from Persian, Central Asian, Indian, and even Mediterranean culinary traditions. Though the food was served quickly, it wasn't made quickly. Rice, particularly long-grain varieties like basmati, is blanched for a day before it's cooked. Meats are marinated in carefully prepared concoctions for hours to ensure tenderness. Lamb shanks are stewed for hours each day. Never had Afghan food? You're not alone. There are only a handful of Afghan restaurants in NJ. Located at the Westfield Plaza off of South Avenue E, some of my colleagues decided on takeout as first-timers for lunch, which came recommended as the food tastes and feels like home from this family-owned and -run establishment. We called the order in for their family platter consisting of Ground Chicken, Lamb and Beef Kababs, Garden Salad, Brown Rice, Fresh Naan Bread, and a side of Potatoes with a red sauce and yogurt. Upon arrival at Famous Kabab Cuisine, my colleague and I were greeted by the owner, Ahmed, who has more than 25 years of experience in making fresh bread and kabob, and informed us of a 5-minute wait. The food remained hot back into the office, would feed 5, and have some for leftovers. The kebabs (ground chicken, beef, and lamb) were well seasoned, tasted delicious, and paired beautifully with the brown rice. Top that bread or kebab with the trio of sauces. A white yogurt sauce with dill is very reminiscent of tzatziki sauce, a vinegary green sauce with cilantro and pureed walnuts, and, for those who do want the heat, a red habanero sauce that should have come with a warning. Overall, one can tell the food was made fresh with quality ingredients. It is not cheap, but one gets decent portions, which we can recommend.
