Still delicious. I don't come here often enough and it's worth the drive. The chicken in garlic sauce is my favorite. I could drink that garlic sauce. The staff is lovely and welcoming. There are a few nice tables inside. They moved tables around to accommodate all of our food. The free bread is delicious. Love the Portuguese soda. The pao de queijo wasn't the best - it's very clearly frozen and was very pale (semi new menu item). Heyyyyyyyy you guys!!! Well let's get right in, this place is low key, super casual vibe. There is seating inside decor is not consistent. The server was very sweet, polite and soft spoken. In my opinion she was juggling too much with serving, busing tables, answering phones, attending to pick ups and walk ins and then having orders barked to her from kitchen staff. Now the eats, the steak was flavorful, the yellow rice is tasty and the black beans are a hit. The fries fell flat on flavor and the oil may be old or was just greasy. Nice cozy spot for some good food. You can dine in. They do have some seating for dining in. But today I ordered for pick up. While I waited I had a beef empanada. That was really good. I would never have gotten one anywhere. But tasting this one has just changed my mind on them. It was full of meat. And the crunchy shell was very good. I ordered the chicken and beef ribs combo to go. Comes with rice and fries. And a garlic grilled shrimp. The only surprise was there was no bread with it but I think now bread would be an extra charge. The chicken was tasty. Not the best by my stand point but my granddaughter would tell you differently. Had a great dinner here. Took it to go and everything was hot and packaged well. The portions are huge. I really enjoyed the Combo 1 of Spare Ribs and Chicken with Rice and Fries. I love Portuguese food and couldn't wait to try this restaurant. When I arrived I parked in the plaza lot. I walked into a small Portuguese BBQ. I was greeted and sat at a table and served by a nice lady. I ordered the garlic shrimp dish and the garlic chicken dish. One with rice and French fries and one with vegetables. The food came out in about 15 minutes or so. When I dug in, I was not a big fan of the garlic shrimp because it was a bit salty. Ribs: cooked well but no flavor, had they taken the time to really season the meat down to the bone, it would've been great, chicken was dry with little flavor, almost as if it was day after chicken. This has got to stop and don't let me get started on the hot sauce, it's actually Pete's hot sauce packets. What a down grade. It's not easy opening up a restaurant. However, thanks for offering a different taste in cuisine close to my home. Nothing beats charcoal bbq. Their chicken and ribs are a definite go to for an enjoyable experience. I have yet to try more items on their menu, but the rice/meat/fries combination is solid. Eat it fresh, seriously. I notice the difference when it's plated fresh. Their sausage appetizer doesn't only contain chorizo, there are some other sausages the Portuguese eat that are inside. I like the variety. I have to point out to people that are used to fish fillet that their salmon and bacalau entrees have bones. I'm fine with it, means it's a fresh cut, but little FYI to those that don't like bones. End the meal with an espresso, it's exactly like the ones I've had in Portugal! If you're not too full, as they give decently sized PORTIONS, grab some of the chef's home made dessert. Portuguese pineapple cake and pastas de natas, very good! This portuguese bbq restaurant also offers some extra goodies. Get on the good side of the chef and you'll be eating delicious prosciutto, heh. Price is fair, definitely cheaper compared to many restaurants in Metuchen. Im also glad I don't have to drive all the way to Newark now for Portuguese BBQ. Chef Wilson and co also do their best to improve. The clams were huge and still in their shells. That's my favorite way to eat clams since it preserves the clam juices. They tasted fresh and the garlic sauce was a perfect match. The sauce did not overpower the natural clam flavors. The addition of the hot sauce gave it some tanginess too. The vegetables though, were unfortunately a bit overcooked so they became a mushy texture. I think they were just steamed so there's not much to it in terms of flavor either. The place is super clean from the cooking area to the dining area and has a fresh look! I didn't dive too deep into the menu for my first time here but instead wanted to try kind of a go to Portuguese dish. I went with the grilled half chicken with rice and fries on the side. The chicken was so juicy and flavorful you don't even need any hot sauce on it or any kind of condiment. I've been going to the Portuguese bbq spots in Newark for the last 15yrs (more often than I care to admit) and this place is one of first I've ever found that's comparable to my faves down neck. Caldo verde, codfish cakes to start and both were great! We went the mixed meat (5 of them) for our first time, to have a selection, we both loved it and the black beans (ordered them on the side) were probably the best I've ever had in ANY chop spot. A filling meal (plus some waters and Sumols) all for $45, we had A LOT to take home too! This place is a homerun and an incredible bang for your buck. I'll start off by saying the chicken is phenomenal, hands down! Even the home made chicken fingers are seasoned very well.. here enters the issue.. the fries were weak. They had potential, but were undercooked. Not even soggy but like just cooked enough to not be raw, yet no real crunch and very minimal flavor. So after crisping them at home and adding some salt I was able to salvage them somewhat. This didn't spoilt the experience because I was able to just mix the chicken with some other sides at home. But ultimately the Fries are the main reason I can't go above a 3. They were very busy though and seemed pretty clean inside. read more

We caterered my Mother-in-law's Repass from here. Having had eaten there a few times (grilled octupus especially) we wanted a nice simple buffet at our location. Wilson, Andrea and his whole staff were so helpful and accommodating to our needs. Terrible customer service when confronted them with a barcode found in my guests empanada during a large catering event. Everyone says to give the manager feedback and an opportunity to make it right so that is exactly what I did. Instead of taking ownership, apologizing & refunding our empanada order he proceeded to cut me off, insinuate I was lying by explaining the doubt and disbelief he had. He first told me the barcode looks like it is from fruit and he does not serve fruit. Then the food is run through a food processor so there is NO WAY this could happen. Lastly, the meat is cooked so a barcode would not survive the heat. All of these explanations placing doubt on my experience and in fact even questioning if the picture I shared with the evidence is in fact from his restaurant. I am by no means a liar especially over this, and do not appreciate at all being made to feel like I did something wrong by reporting this. read more
