I met Ki Crumpton through a friend who owns a restaurant when I needed to find someone to help me repaint the inside of my rented apartment back to its original state. That's when I was given Ki's name. I was told he was reliable, knowledgeable, good, fast, fair and affordable. I learned that he fit all those adjectives to the tee. I sent him a text and after speaking with him on the phone and in person, I agreed to have him work on it. Less than 24 hours later, the place looked exactly as before after his crew took care of the job. There was no mess left behind and the work was perfect. I texted him Thursday, February 4th at 1:54pm with my apartment needing a repainting very badly and very quickly. By Saturday at Noon, the apartment looked as if it had never been painted and was restored to its original state. If you need your place painted, I highly recommend Ki. Ki took a lot of care in describing what he was going to do, prepping the area, creating the door, finishing it off with trim, and cleaning up afterwards. He is one of the most efficient worker I have ever seen. Fast pace and hardworking. We were figuring out ways to do the rebuild of a dry wall. It was about 100 square feet sand he finished that in 6 hours. Including wall rebuild, muddy, painting and everything. We needed some extra work to make our house handicap-friendly after I became disabled. My wife found Ki through Yelp, and he came out and not only helped us figure out how we could make things work, but also what we would need. He went shopping and got us a list of components. After checking with us to make sure the budget was OK, Ki bought everything, brought it straight to our house, and began installing handrails that were strong enough to support me (275 lbs) and allow me to move up and down the stairs between levels of our house. He also installed rails outside, above our front steps - into stucco, no easy task - that supports me getting up and down those steps. While he was here, he took care of some other small items that needed doing - his attitude is excellent; he is very accommodating. One major advantage that Ki has over other people we've used in the past is his willingness to research how best to accomplish something. He doesn't begin a project until he has figured out how it will be done strongest/safest/most useful. And he explains it all before he begins. I was told an amazing tale about a determined, sharp and adept individual by my parents, which inspired me to write an uplifting review for Ki Crumpton. I am what most consider a tough critic. I seldom write 5 star reviews for services, but I most certainly think Mr. Crumpton is deserving of it for what he is capable of. His versatility, professionalism, punctuality and an astounding knack for transporting large machinery saved us time, trouble and money. We had two sets of washers and dryers that were in dire need of riddance. Ki, amongst many others responded to our Craigslist ad, but we decided to contact him just because he seemed to be able to get the job done ASAP. He came by promptly, loaded up all 4 machines and as he was doing so, we learned of his versatility and the fact that he once packed up 8 refrigerators by himself (average-sized guy) on his pickup truck! Ki responded to my craigslist ad. professionally. He called us ahead of time when he expected delay for our appointment. He helped us to move a refrigerator and a stove. It turned out that the refrigerator was too wide to enter the apartment door. He volunteered to take out the refrigerator doors in order to move the refrigerator into the apartment, and installed the refrigerator doors back to place. I had ki do the drywall in my entire business, which was not an easy job by any means. A hundred year old building with uneven studs and a concrete float that tapers down the entire space. On top of that I asked for level five smooth finish. It all came out perfectly and I really couldn't ask for more. Ki was hired by my wife to repaint our front porch and steps which was a big job because our house is 100 years old and there was lots of prep and patching. While there he and his assistant also found and painted some roofing and eaves that had been replaced when our roof was replaced a couple of years ago. The work was really beautifully done and they managed to do it in the time frame that we hoped for even with all the extras needed. The price was extremely reasonable for what they did. Ki might be good at painting (he did no painting for me so I don't know), but not at drywall repair. I think some of his reviews appear to be written by his friends... I asked him to level a wall that had bowed inward. My goal was to have a level wall in order to install a tall cabinet against the wall, as well as to install a mirror on the rest of the wall. Ki showed up with a plastic bag of something premixed that should not have been used (according to an experienced drywall person who looked at the photos, Ki used premixed joint compound, not fast set light mud) and never used a level. He also used too-thick pieces of drywall to sort of fill in the wall; they must have been left over from another job. When my cabinet installer came today, he used his level to show me the wall and it's so off that I'm going to have to pay someone to fix it. I called Ki and he argued with me, claiming that I hadn't communicated with him about what I wanted. How is it not understandable that I want a level wall? I'll take responsibility when I believe I'm in the wrong or have miscommunicated, but not in this case. He did offer to come back. I declined...He also did not do a great job of cleaning up. Instead of asking for rags or paper towels, I noticed later that the roll of toilet paper was almost gone. There was a lot left for me to clean up behind the cabinet and in the sink, dust from the sanding, as well as dried compound on my new countertop. All in all, it was unprofessional. He seems like a nice guy, but drywall/mud is not something you should hire him for, in my opinion. read more

Ki seems knowledgeable about his practice, a hard and ambitious worker with reasonable rates and flexible scheduling, and overall a savvy, intelligent, and friendly conversationalist. He painted my kitchen ceiling, patched the evidence of a previous light quite nicely, and repaired the ceiling around a lighting fixture. Overall, I was pleased with the results, with a couple of concerns: * Paint was dripped on a brand-new fixture in a couple places. This did not cause any problems, but the work quality came off as a bit sloppy and not what I would expect from a professional painter (why wasn't the fixture masked prior to starting the job?). * A return visit was required to finish one of the jobs that should have been completed the first time; perhaps I wasn't specific enough in my initial discussion. The follow-up work fortunately was performed to my liking. * Brushes were washed in my kitchen sink without first asking me for approval. Although this practice technically is OK for latex paint, I would have come down a lot harder if the sink and plumbing were new. Also, Ki used a significant number of my paper towels instead of bringing his own clean-up resources and left a paint tray for me to dispose of. A professional painter should provide the basic working materials, either rinse brushes in a designated utility sink or wrap them to clean later at his facility, and properly clean up. I don't have any comparative experiences so I'll place this review in the middle at 2.5 stars. read more

Once we had agreed the scope of our project, about which Ki was knowledgeable and helpful, we felt in very good hands right through to completion. The team were sensitive to minimizing the inevitable disruption involved in plastering a ceiling and redecorating our living and dining rooms, including an extensive sanding and varnishing of the period window frames on our 1926 home. Ki bent over backwards to accommodate our hopes of having the job done in an accelerated time frame by being open to working around the clock. The quality of the finish was fantastic.
