Alex and Norma did a fantastic job repainting our kitchen cabinets. We were happy with the beautiful finish of our cabinets, which originally had lots of wear-and-tear. They sanded and primed the cabinets, then added several layers of new blue paint. Everything looked very even and there was no stray paint in the rest of our kitchen. My only quibble is that the job went 3 days over schedule, which is not great for a 4-day job. I would budget in extra time if you are thinking of hiring them, but overall would still recommend Pro Painting. read more

Writing this review for my husband. He's a real estate agent, and he needed a painter for a house he was selling in Oakland. His usual painting vendor wasn't available so he decided to find someone via Yelp. He usually finds vendors via word of mouth with clients or other agents. So, he was extremely skeptical to use a painter only known from Yelp. Due to the number and highly rated reviews, he gave Alex a try. Alex did an exceptional job and my husband would highly recommend Alex. Here are the points he wanted me to stress. 1: Quality of the bid. Alex was not the cheapest of the bids. What impressed my husband was the quality and detail of the bid he provided. While other vendors provided a bid on a scrap of paper, Alex used an app on his phone that generated a very detailed bid that specified each aspect of the job. Very helpful so there is no confusion. 2: Quality of Work: Alex's work was exceptional. The paint job was professional and top notch. He did a great job patching the areas that needed it. Then he applied a nice, smooth coat of paint. His lines were straight, and made sure that there were no thin areas. 3: Promptness: Alex was always on time to the site. He was given a strict deadline as to when the job needed to be done. He stuck to that deadline. Alex was at the job everyday, even on the weekends. Again, this is big. 4: Flexibility: There were several times my husband, or the stager, made changes to the original job. Alex never made a fuss, and always completed the changes. His attention to detail was exceptional, so when my wife and I bought a new house, he's the guy I called to paint all of it. Review for communication- Exchanged a few messages with Alejandro and he first asked for a 5 pm meeting. Working in Marin County and getting home to the East Bay is trouble, so I sent him a message asking to meet at 5:30. Never heard back, the time probably didn't work- No biggie. We then attempted another meeting, this time on a Saturday at noon. He then asked not too long after to change the meeting to 11 a.m. Perfectly fine. 11:00 a.m. comes, nothing. 11:15, still nothing. Give him a call, no answer. I understand contractors are often times busy, things get pushed back. Being a working professional with a family, often times the weekends are absolutely the very little free time we have. We chose to give that time to Alejandro and Pro Painting Cali. Not showing up to a scheduled appointment nor having the common courtesy to pick up the phone to call us if you have zero plans on following through with an appointment is severely disappointing. read more

Excellent and timely job, especially for the price. I have zero complaints about the quality of their painting, and they even did some carpentry work on the side to take care of my dry rot issues. I would not have been able to get my house painted by the arrival of the rains this fall if not for these guys. Would contract with them again. The one thing I would say to keep in mind when doing business with Pro Painting Cali is to keep actively communicating with them about when they plan to work. When we hired them, they let us know about the first weekend that they would need to be around and would need access to the interior (for windowsill painting), but not the second one. He texted me on Friday exactly at 9am, asking to push the appointment out to 4pm, and I agreed. He did not show up to our 4pm appointment, did not respond to the Yelp message or text I sent him inquiring of his whereabouts, and four days later I have received zero response from this company. Sadly, I cannot give a good review. We had Alex over to look at the house and give us a bid. He acted very professionally, so we felt he was the one to do the job. A very good first impression. However, when we received the electronic proposal, there were errors and omissions. I contacted Alex a number of times by email and phone and asked to discuss issues, and never got a response. The proposal expired, so I contacted him again, complained that I had not heard back. I was aggravated, so I mentioned that if I continued to not hear back, I would leave a negative feedback (here) for his unprofessional behavior of not returning calls. He finally returned a call, left a message, and was angry and confusing in his message. He talked about how the price would go up, but would honor the first proposal (except it was wrong) as is. Except that it still had errors and omissions. He left us another voice message a day or so later, was super angry, started YELLING about how professional he was (yes, the irony was not missed), claimed I was trying to blackmail him with a bad review, and told us he would not do the job now. Basically stormed off because I questioned his proposal and his lack of returning calls, not to mention yelling at a customer, which was anything but professional. It is not blackmail, it is the truth. Sorry Alex, I am sure you do not think you deserve this, but you treated us very poorly, acted unprofessionally, and others should know what might happen if they disagree with or question you. ADDED IN COMMENT IN RESPONSE TO ALEX'S RESPONSE BELOW: He is wrong again: I have phone records to show when I made calls to him that were not answered. Maybe he has problems with VM? I have no idea and do not care. Calls were not returned. The errors in the proposal did include the laundry room as he mentioned, but it is the smallest room in the house, but quoted higher than others. And this room has "half walls", the bottom half concrete does not need painting. I asked for clarification on the rate for that room, a fair question, since I did not understand his quote. Other errors included not specifying different paint colors and finishes in several rooms as discussed during the walk through. Everything was listed in one color and finish (except for trim.) Is Alex saying I do not have the right to question his proposal and point out errors? Really? And he wants to continue to argue it here? REALLY? As for his "blackmail" comment, it was left a voicemail message on my phone (which I belive I still have.) He is right, it was in a voice message. Thisis from his email: "I find VERY bad business the way you threat me with posting a negative review to force me or make me do something that you want your way, for that reason I choose not to do any work for you." Let's be clear here, I am paying for a job that yes, I want done my way. My way here, was having the proposal corrected and explained. When he failed to respond to the corrections, I did say I would post a negative review if he continued to ignore my calls and emails. That was his answer. NOT PROFESSIONAL! I stand by my review. I have used dozens of contractors and have never been treated like this before. I am sure he is fine when not questioned, but even his arguing here shows what happens when you disagree with him. He is continuing to argue about how professional and right he is, again, which is not professional at all. read more

I had a tricky handyman/painting challenge. One of our outside doors gets lots of sun and is painted black. For a hollow core door 10 years in the sun was too much. Replacing it with a solid wood door without replacing the frame is something most craftsman would pass up. Alex knew just what to do. He completed the project on time and on budget which included repainting all the trim in the front of the house. he is responsive, professional and I trust him. I had nasty mildew on my bathroom ceiling and walls. Alex gave me a through written proposal on scrubbing the mildew, applying new primer, and repainting the bathroom with a moisture-resistant, mold retarding paint. We also had Alex and his crew sand the wood window and door trims,which had some drip marks and blotting. The job was done on time and the work was magnificent. Alex's bid came in lower and was more thorough in its scope, i.e. he explained the need to scrub the walls and ceiling twice with a bleach before applying two coats of primer. I own a two level home on a steep slope in Oakland. Based on the great yelp reviews, I contracted with Pro Painting Cali to paint my house. I could not be happier with my choice. Hugo and the crew spent a great deal of effort on preparation of the stucco walls and windows frames. My house was built in 1930 and needed quite a lot of prep work. Their standards are quite high.
