Cute little family owned sit down restaurant with waiter/waitress service. We ordered the samosas for appetizers, one meat and one veggie. For our meal we split a platter. There is a 5$ fee for sharing. You can do an all veggie platter, all meat, or meat and veggie. We did the meat/veggie option with 5 choices. It is 19$ for this option. It also comes with rolled up bread to eat the meat and veggies with. The bread is similar to a savory pancake with a spongy texture, and it's yummy. The portions were smaller than the main picture on yelp. Also each scoop of meat and veggies was not separated by rolled bread, but it wasn't touching either (see pictures), but everything tasted good. read more

Kibrom's is the absolute best ethiopian food in the Boise area. Of course, they're the only ethiopian food, but whatever, they still rock! I was recently in Minneapolis and they have a ton of ethiopian restaurants, and I tried about half a dozen different ones and each time I realized it wasn't as good as Kibrom's. That's saying something going up against the Minneapolis crowd. We've been going to Kibrom's since it was in the International Market that burned down, and I wish them all the best. Their online ordering these days is fast and easy too, which is nice. Only thing, if you order the gluten free injera, make sure you check it! Normally they get it right, but I always check and last time they gave me regular. You can tell the difference, since the gluten version is white and fluffy and the gluten-free version is dark and flat. I've only tried their veggie options because I'm vegetarian, so I have no opinion on their meat dishes. read more

Good food, but the worst service that my wife and I have ever experienced in a restaurant. The teenage waiter was completely uninterested in waiting on us. He threw the menus onto the table and due to his unwillingness to communicate with us, we ended up ordering the wrong dish. Service was so horrendous that I did not leave a tip. I also spoke with the owner of the restaurant, who seemed concerned, but not concerned enough to comp our less than stellar meal ( I didn't ask for a comped meal, but that's what I would have done if I were the owner). I know that we would have had a better dining experience if the service had been better. read more

Love! Kibrom and his family are kind and hardworking and make amazing food. I especially enjoy the veggie options. My favorites are gomen with hamli-kelwa (kale & potatoes cooked in onion and garlic), the alicha-spiced tikel gomen (cabbage, potato, carrots, and onion), and foselia (green beans and carrots cooked with onions and chilis). If this were being rated solely on taste and quality, it would be an easy five stars. If there were negative stars that could be assessed purely on value/reasonable servings I would most definitely award negative stars in that category alone. The picture shows a to-go container filled on one side (the injera was taking up the other side). This half of a to-go container is allegedly three different dishes, each around $12. So, I wouldn't think there would any person who could argue with any sound reason that this 1/2 container is $36 worth of food. Taste was great, but at almost any other order-at-counter restaurant in almost any city in the country a single $12 meal fills an entire to-go container. I completely understand that this is specialty food for the area and likely labor-intensive. Even if it were twice as expensive, one might think $24 should still amount to a full container of food. And yet, the picture shows what $36 (three dishes) gets you. Zero complaints on flavor or variety. Perhaps dining in would be a better experience, but if someone were taking this home to a family after paying $36, I think that would be a tough conversation at home. read more

I feel bad giving a 4-star review given that it's one of the lowest here. I think that says more about my reviews being deflated than about the restaurant. Kibrom's was absolutely delicious and up-to-standard Ethiopian food. It compares favorably to places I've been in larger cities, even DC. Spices and flavors were all well-balanced and tasty, though the salad in the middle of the injera is a bit weird and makes the bread too soggy underneath. But the dishes really are flavorful, and the injera's as good as I've had anywhere. I can't give it 5 stars because it didn't blow my mind and change my perception of Ethiopian food, but I'd happily go again and recommend it to anyone. read more

If you want different, try this place. I've been coming here for a few years now and it has become one of my regular favorite gems in Boise. Please be aware that silverware are not used in this place (I mean unless you're getting soup and they do have silverware but why deprive yourself from trying something different and making a memory out of it) the injera (bread) will be your utensil, the right hand will do the rest. Give your phalanges a greater purpose and use their functionality to their full potential. Oh and my partner and I do Teff, which is the gluten free bread they have. My dream of having a fantastic Ethiopian restaurant in Boise has been fulfilled. The food is so tasty and full of spices. Flavorful spices. The dishes I had were all marked spicy. They were but nothing spicy hot. Just damn great flavors. The injera was just the right density and texture and went perfect with the food. Our server brought us more when it was apparent we were going to come up short. The mango drink was fresh and smooth and creamy. Awesome. The only downside was the constant droning of a woman downloading here fucking life story to some poor schlub that looked like he wanted to light himself on fire. Ok, well I was never in Boise, Idaho before and just passing through to be honest and when an Ethiopian restaurant popped up on Yelp we just had to check it out! We were not disappointed! Not only is it an unlikely find but it is perhaps at least one of the best Ethiopian restaurants we have eaten at if not the best! Wow, something different with something for everyone. Are you gluten free? They have you covered. Are you a vegetarian? No problem. Are you, like me, an omnivore? This joint's for you. Lamb, beef and chicken, spicy or mild. Lentils and yellow peas prepared several ways. All this Ethiopian goodness is served on a thin spongy sourdough crepe like bread that covers a medium pizza pan. Comes with a basket of this tangy bread as well. Why so much bread you ask? I'm glad you asked. This is authentic Ethiopian food, served Ethiopian style meaning, you eat with your fingers or to be exact, you tear of a bit of the sourdough and pick up your food with it and enjoy. But Mike, you say, isn't that kinda messy? Yup, it is a bit messy but that adds to the uniqueness and charm. They do have a large basket on each table filled with more napkins than our party of four could use. You do get to pick which entrees you want on your sourdough covered pizza tin and each choice has its own unique flavors. For me, the real taste thrill was when I'd scoop up some meat dish and combine it with one of the veggie dishes. Our server was a sweetheart and was quick with requested soda refills. As noted by others, the kitchen is not quick so, be prepared for a bit of a wait (30 minutes or more in our case). I found the food warm and restraunt fresh. I will be back, soon. read more

For many occasions, the rest of my family LOVE this place, but I remained apprehensive. So I decided to go try them and even offered to pay(just to get me out of the house). Kibrom's is a small place, I ordered the beef side, a lamb side and vegetable (lentils). Their description of this weird thin bread was exactly that: weird, but after beginning to eat my meal (the rest of the family ordered a larger tray) I started to enjoy coming! The trays of food were the sizes of large pizza tims, full of food. The idea is to rip off some "bread" and sop up you food without using silverware. I inhaled my glass of water and (probably due cultural differings) I never saw anybody pouring more water. It wasn't a big deal because my wife gave me her water and I kept eating until my tray was bone clean. (so was theirs'). We will definitely return!! My wife wants to visit their kitchen to learn how they bake that bread!!! read more

Not sure why it took me a few check-ins to review this place but I think I remember why. I went there the first open Saturday and it was a nightmare! Service was very bad, very slow and the owner even spilled water all over us and took forever to clean it. I realized he was not used to that kind of restaurant since he had a walk up at B I M. We tried a few more times and the service kept improving and the food always delicious. One of the few places you and another person can eat for $15 and not finish it. Very budget eating! This place is amazing! I come here every time I get off the airplane from California. This is better Ethiopian food than anywhere in Los Angeles. Everything is perfectly executed and spiced. Super cheap beer just sweetens the deal. $3 for craft beer?!?!? The waitress is so nice and friendly and always welcomes me with a smile. If you have never tried Ethiopian this is a great place to have your 1st experience. I know everyone loves meat and I do too but try their lentils. Tried this establishment for the first time on mothers day. The food itself is actually quite good aside from the bread if you can call it that. The bread is actually used as the fork and knife meaning there isnt silverware used. The sample platter (6 items) we ordered was served on a pizza platter type dish with the spongy bread underneath. Idea being you tear apart the bread and insert your desired food item inside said bread. All using your fingers and hands. Salad inside bread is awful btw. Eating in such a primitive way is outputting to me personally. Messy and disgusting. Tried to flag the attendant for some water (mine was empty) and ask about silverware. They simply drop off the big platter without a word and disappear it seemed. Overall i feel kibroms is overrated. The service is non existent. Food is average and you eat with your hands. The bread is unstable- meaning it absorbs moisture from the food and tears. Making a messy eating experience even worse. Service is lacking. I went to another table for a pitcher of water as apparently we didn't need to hydrate. Also i found my own to go container although ended up just throwing away the leftovers. The food itself is decent but hardly worth the $21 spent. Boise is so desperate for culture they will accept anything thrown at them no matter how awful. I say that moving here 6 months ago and seeing the lack of quality restaurants. Plenty of burger joints though. read more

I've eaten here several times and accepted slow service as the norm. I'm not rating two stars because of that, they usually have one waitress and no one is too worried about time in this place so if you need to eat and run do not eat here. My lentils were a little bland so I wanted hot sauce. I went to grab some from another table as every table does not have a bottle, not sure why but maybe 1:3 of tables have this. I can only assume the restaurant is very lazy about the hot sauce because the bottle I grabbed, the sauce would not easily come out of the spout so I opened the cap and was met with a horrible rotten smell like rotting eggs, and tons of crustiness around the rim. I have to think they just put hot sauce upon the hot sauce already in there and there is some really rank, old hot sauce in those bottles. Really gross. They charge $10 for two portions of vegetables/lentils and the injera bread. If you charge that much please take basic care of things like hot sauce bottles. I couldn't even eat my food after I smelled the bottle upon opening the lid. read more

I found this restaurant about 4 months ago, and have eaten here about 6-7 times. It's always good and the staff are all very friendly. I have been eating Ethiopian cuisine for a few years and been to restaurants in NYC, SLC, Portland and Sweden. This restaurant in Boise is equal to or better than those in large cities. Although not opposed to the meat entrees, I like the vegetarian and vegan dishes the best. Their Injera is the best I've had. read more

We first went to Kibrom's when they were in the International Market. We fell in love with their food and were bummed when the Market burned down. We continue to go to Kibrom's new place and still love it! We usually get a vegetarian dish (one with Kale and Potatoes) and the red tibs. Both are amazing and make your mouth water just thinking about it! Also, don't forget to sprinkle some of the hot sauce they have on the table.
