We're from out of town and my first experience here had me wishing Kick Butt was near me at home! Friendly and professional staff with a nice atmosphere inside. we ordered through their app which is great, it made ordering with them a breeze! I highly recommend trying the breakfast tacos to go with your morning cup of coffee. Several different choices to choose from, my favorite was the brisket called "the yummy chef". They are KICK BUTT! Lots of other tasty looking baked goodies available as well. Two thumbs up I just found our go to neighborhood coffee stop while visiting in Austin. Will definitely be a return customer. Vibes were good, service was not. This place is walking distance to my cousins place so I wanted to walk down for breakfast while in town. The breakfast tacos were good! They do run out so come early for the best selection. We asked for a couple that they ran out of (9:30am) and it seemed to bother the woman behind the counter that we even asked for the most popular ones. We asked about the chefs special taco and she said they didn't have one today. Totally ok but didn't even give us a sense of what they normally offer. She did passively mention they will offer vegan in the future. I asked about their selection of tea because they list a tropical green and regular green. "What make the tropical green tropical? :)" she literally ROLLED her eyes so hard and said "I don't know". Like you work here.... You serve this tea..... You should know your selection of tea and be able to talk about it. I did end up picking the tropical green tea. And it has a hibiscus flavor to it if you wanted to know why it was tropical. My cousin said her coffee was good. The breakfast tacos were good. But I was turned off by this woman's lack of service skills. It seemed like we were bothering her to be there. Would come back though, maybe she was having a bad day? Maybe it's just that server? I would like to come back at night since they have a full bar with a stage. We have been to Kick Butt many times over the last two years since moving nearby. This is the perfect local coffee shop. They have really good coffee (try the pecan cold brew!), delicious food and housemade baked goods, and they host a wide array of cool, quirky shows. The thing thay really pushes them over the top is that even though they do a LOT of things, which usually means they're all kind of eh, everything we've had is really good quality. Good salsa for the tacos, good bread for the avocado toast, good beans for the coffee. They do it all and they do it well. Love to have this place in our neighborhood and would recommend to anyone. read more

Pretty cool to find a place that does coffee, alcohol, food, and music. I personally just came for the coffee and tried some breakfast tacos while I was at it. The cappuccino was pretty decent, not the best I've had but definitely not bad. The breakfast tacos were much smaller than I expected but the potato, egg, and cheese really hit the spot. Had a banana too but every banana they had was already almost half black. Maybe make bread, pudding, or dessert with those ripe bananas instead of putting them out to sell and get some fresh yellow ones. Customer service from the girl with the glasses was good. Very cool place! I love the aesthetic, and the full bar + coffee bar.... Ting, the kitchen manager, is amazing! They were so nice and very personable. They brought the food out themselves and even talked us thru the homemade hot sauce they'd made (specialty salsa with habanero, red wine, chipotle peppers, whiskey and vodka) and made sure we were enjoying our meal. The cashier was also very easy going and attentive. The chorizo breakfast tacos were delicious, my bagel breakfast sandwich was fresh and crispy, and my dirty chai tasted like Christmas in a cup. Next time I'm around this part of Austin I am definitely coming back, this place seems like it would hit the spot at any time of day as they have an all-day menu, live music, and a bar. I haven't been to one of the evening shows yet but have been there during the day and it is great! I got breakfast tacos this week and they were good but not magical that I was lead to believe. I live in the adjacent neighborhood and we were very happy when COVID hit because Kickbutt Coffee wasnt pounding bass all night and my wife could actually get some sleep. I was extremely disappointed that they didnt go out of business. We complained to the police MANY times about the noise violations and they did nothing. read more

Kick Butt has grown on me a loooot. I live way south but if I end up north for a meeting or something and want to wait out rush hour traffic, I stop here. The food is 1000% better than when I first started going, you can get some banging desserts, snacks (including pretzels), and intimidatingly large bananas. I can't say much for the drinks - I noticed they have a full bar - because I am a strict black iced coffee woman, but they sound interesting. Staff has been super friendly. Prices are still a little high imo - I paid $3.50 for a bottled Mexican coke, before tip - but I'll allow it. Generally no one there seems to take themselves that seriously, like the staff has a sense of humor, but everything seems well-organized and clean. (There does seem to be a weird bathroom smell if you're seated nearby, more of cleaning products than anything else.) Probably the best part is all the community involvement - I know so many people who have done open mic stand up, played shows, or done burlesque here. Abysmal. If I could give this 0 stars, I would. Today was the first time I've ever bought food from this place. The selection of prepared foods was tiny and very sad. Finally settled on a chicken Caesar wrap that I took back to my office to eat with my colleagues. I was incredibly disappointed. it was mainly iceberg lettuce wrapped in a RAW wrap. There was a sliver of chicken and some dressing at the bottom of the wrap, but hardly anything at all! I was starving so I ate it. With every bite I took, a piece of tortilla would break off. The wrap never held its shape - it was a disheveled mess of lettuce and crumbly cold wrap. Absolutely disgusting. All of my colleagues thought my wrap was sad and suggested I Yelp it. Thus the photos of my miserable lunch, attached for your enjoyment. And to top it off, the girl at the register was so rude! She never made eye contact and acted like I was bothering her the entire time. I swiped my card and signed the receipt. She stood there with the register wide open counting money without saying thank you or bye. I waited about a minute for my receipt. Without looking up she asked what else I wanted. I told her that I just needed my receipt and she kinda flicked it at me without looking up again. I will NEVER go back again and I strongly caution others from doing so too. Seriously filthy place and the guy behind the counter was rude. That being said I sadly have to say the coffee is "meh", not good.

Had a great time at a kick ass show (Destroyer of Light among others). Beers were priced fairly and the bathrooms were clean. Best of all, the sound guy was on point, which is really only ever my point of contention. Cut to like a year later, stopped in for lunch yesterday, ordered the Caprese Sandwich and side salad (less than $10). I can not stress this enough, I *rarely* finish all the food on my plate...It's just that I get full pretty quickly and then I'll usually box it up and finish it 2 hours later when I'm hungry again. However, both items were so fresh and delish that I ate the whole damn thing right then and there. 10/10 would recommend! read more

We ordered this through DoorDash and had an awesome experience! I got an iced americano and my husband got the regular hot americano amazing tasting coffee! We are snobs with coffee so I was so excited to get a great one:) yummy caramel notes to the beans. Very smooth. We also got the vegan gluten free chocolate donuts. And wowzer they were delicious! I've been coming to this place for years because they host the best punk shows. The bartenders are always friendly and the stage sound is usually fantastic. Since shows haven't been happening due to the pandemic, I started coming during the day, first to support them during these times, and then because Kick Butt is just as awesome during the day as it was in the evenings. Their food is SO GOOD! I've gotten the caprese sandwich several times but am ready to venture out to something new. I also got a London Fog today that was fantastic. All of the staff I've interacted with are super nice. They seem legitimately happy to be at work, and that makes me happy to spend money here. I also appreciate their Covid precautions. Hand sanitizer available to all, designated waiting places, masked employees and a plastic divider separating us. It's not the quietest place to study during the day, but it's a coffee shop, not a library. My noise cancelling headphones are sufficient to block out their music. read more

What a weird place, and I don't mean that in a good way. An atmosphere equivalent to drinking coffee at a 22nd century Wal-mart and baristas with the persona to match. This place kind of reminds me of the Antichrist, but in a nice way. When I was there it was all dark & red & Kanye West, with the most unusual crowd I've ever seen in a coffee place. TSA would have had a field day with us. But what the hell, that's what makes Austin interesting. Would I ever take advantage of their full bar & interesting food menu? Probably not. But what makes me a fan here is the nice counterperson who was concerned about the temperature of my straight black from their thermos, and I said go ahead & just nuke it. She gave me a big discount. To put it in what I'm sure is an unoriginal manner: Kick Butt Kick's Butt. Not only do I like the venue and the coffee, the owner Thomas (shame on me for never really interacting to know if it's Tom or not) actually sends entertaining emails that I'm not upset that I signed up for. That says something for his email marketing, since I do that kindof stuff for a living. He's super entertaining and deserves great success with Kick Butt. Thanks for having a great coffee shop! I updated because there is a bit of a downside to the place... if you go in for coffee and there's a live show going on.. you have to walk in front of the performers... if it's comedy night... you might get called out... if it's poetry night... you might just kinda feel depressed... either way it's super awkward and it's taught me not to go at night if I'm not going to be entertained by whatever's going on on stage. Bricking off that time that I can really just not go there for fear of awkwardness makes me lower my review. read more

Kick Butt Coffee Airport Blvd has a friendly girl manning the counter and a nice variety of food: pastries, pizza, and sandwiches. There is 80s music playing rather loudly in the background. There are lots of small tables and large booths indoors as well as a few small tables outdoors. I find their prices high ($6 for a turkey and provolone "samich") so I'm deducting a star for that. Drinks cost a lot more than at the other Austin coffeeshops and Starbucks. The prices aren't listed on the menu. It's the most expensive coffeeshop I've ever been to around the world actually. They hold a lot of fun events like comedy nights that seem popular. They doubled their store space and made it look very spacious and even glamorous. The location at the Northeast quadrant of the Koenig / 2222 @ Airport Blvd intersection serves an area that was previously devoid of good coffeeshops. read more

I am not in the Airport Blvd/Highland Mall area often, butt when I am I get excited about stopping in for a coffee. I usually go with the iced mocha. This place is always clean, the baristas are not only easy on the eyes but they know what they are doing. Places like this make Austin what it is. It's a unique hybrid of martial arts studio and coffee house with live music occasionally. They even have a big screem tv that plays kung fu movies and they have booths instead of IKEA styled table and chairs like the national chain coffee shops have. I think that I have to preface this review by saying that sometimes the sight of children just turns people off. My friend and I walked in with my two kiddos (a 2 yr old and a 2 month old). We are the only new patrons, with a few folks seated around the place. We walk up the the ordering spot, my stands there for a minute and orders, and I walk up before he's paid and order some food. I ask the girl that made the coffees if the chicken salad sandwich is good and she tells me she's a vegetarian, so I agree that asking her that question doesn't work - I ask if people seem to like it in general and I don't know if I am asking two too many questions or what but I get this shitty vibe from her. It was as though I was supposed to know she didn't eat chicken. I get the sandwich it is spicy as I was warned against but wasn't that great aside from that. I can't even say what it tasted like. **The coffees were good**, the food I wouldn't write home about and the service just made me feel uncomfortable. It was like I walked into a party I wasn't invited to. **the owner's comment is accurate. He took the time to text out to me and follow up with his employee. This place is one of my favorite coffee shops! I love the relaxed atmosphere and they have live music here sometimes. I went in before dinner and a movie night and we were greeted by a friendly smile! I purchased an iced coffee with vanilla flavor and cream! I love that you get to put your own cream in that way it is always the right amount! Their coffee is really "Kick Butt" and will definitely put a bounce in your step. I love strong full flavored coffee so this is good for me! Plus it is reasonably priced and the sizes of the drinks are better than most places! The area in the back with the love seat, chair, ottoman and tv is so relaxing. We got to recharge our batteries with coffee and veg out watching a movie. They also have plenty of books to casually read! They came around and offered us a free breakfast taco but, since we were going to dinner we declined! read more

The energy is amazing and everyone who works there has always been kind and the pours are heavy. Fair prices and the owner is legit; always mingling with the crowds and showing his support for the bands. I sing praises for Kick Butt to everyone I know. I've been to a good few shows here now and every time I go I leave feeling giddy and well entertained. This is a delightful little spot that I've been frequenting since I moved into the neighborhood. I usually get a latte and my friend has gotten the Americano and liked it as well. I've also gone there for a weekend coffee & breakfast and they'll put a shot in your coffee for ya to start off your lazy weekend. My favorite thing there is the cha-cha salad. It's a very generous portion and the chicken fajita is nicely seasoned and juicy, it comes with a thick dressing (maybe something in the poblano ranch-ish style) that I can't get enough of. I've also had a ham & cheese croissant which was delicious, they really stack on the veggies so ya feel a little healthy and the slices of cucumber are a little unusual and add a delightful little crunch. Some of the reviews mention poor customer service but I have never encountered that, and the fellow in the kitchen who brings the food out is very friendly and nice. The owner also occasionally posts items in the neighborhood Buy Nothing group which is neat and I got a cute little shelf from them through that. This is one of the best Northside coffee houses - period. Virtually no one goes to the Airport location which is undeserved neglect - when one considers the multiple flaws of the other north side and campus area coffee establishments. A good coffee house needs a) good coffee (duh) b) great ambience c) good sockets and seating places for getting a lot of work done d) reliable internet Most of the supercrowded superpopular north side coffee shops actually fall down on one or more of these. I won't mention names - but my experiences at the more famous north side places has been less than wonderful. At the competition when i find a seat (not always easy)- or find a seat with a socket --- I then go to order coffee and get coffee stale in the pot, coffee with old milk - or a mediocre coffee concoction. (Say what you will about Starbucks - it may be corporate but the coffee is reliable and well mixed. This does not apply to chic-er places.) Or at the competition you get everything you want and settle in to work ... and the internet is out - meaning you have to pack up and go elsewhere. The two notable exceptions - places that provide both excellent coffee and excellent reliability are Kick-butt and Monkey's Nest. Of the two good options, Kick-butt is where I go when I absolutely positively have to get work done now. The airport location always has plenty of room - so I can get any seat i want --- although with the copious sockets - there aren't that many seats that are bad. Coffee is always solid. The internet always works. They play action movies (silently) which is actually a plus. I work - look up - watch some Japanese guy kill a zombie - work some more - watch the japanese guy jump between buildings - work - watch the japanese guy kill the same zombie because the film has looped. The film is unobrusive enough to not get in the way when you are really thinking hard about something - but provides nice pacing during the rest pauses. I don't know why this place isn't mobbed the way the other more famous coffee houses are. the fact it is on airport boulevard may mean it is disrespected. airport boulevard is full of seriously underrecognized underpatronized fine establishments. arpeggio on airport is the best middle east restaurant in town china palace on airport has a secret (you have to ask for it) chinese language menu that is one of the best chinese selections in town quality seafood on airport is the best fried seafood place in town (that place DOES get business) jalapeno joes on airport is the best cheap burger in town. and yet - these places receive few customers relative to their merits. kick butt is another airport establishment that gets less credit than it deserves. read more
