A dog friendly area in Austin that sells food and drinks? What's not to love! We decided to stop by Yard Bar looking for a nice chill spot to spend a Sunday afternoon with our dog and here's what we found: parking is decent and the exterior of the place looks very nice and clean, the interior is very much the same. Like all other dog bars they do charge a fee to have your dog go into their dog park area but not for their general eating area. The fee is about $13 and you do have to fill out information there so be aware of that. We opted not to go into the dog park there as it was too hot and there weren't many dogs inside. From the outside it also looked like there wasn't too much shade for the dogs but again, hard to confirm as we didn't actually go in. They have water bowls available to grab your dog some water in the back which is a plus. When seated we ordered some food to get things started. We got a turkey dog, kids grilled cheese, and a chicken sandwich. You order up at the window and then they bring it out to you at your table which is nice. The food was a pretty big miss though, the kids grilled cheese was half a grilled cheese, which while we understand it's a kids version, it's just cheese and bread, give a full one. The turkey dog was a hit, at least with our dog cause he scarfed it down. The chicken sandwich on the other hand was awful. It came with about 7 pickles which made no sense, it was also a bit burnt and way too salty. If we hadn't paid like $13 for it, we probably wouldn't have finished it. To be honest with you, Yard Bar does not feel like a standout spot. If you're going to pay the money for the experience you may as well go to Mutts, which in our opinion is a much nicer experience. read more

If you are not a regular or part of their niche community, better stay clear. As you enter, they allow all their dogs to swarm the new one entering, already over stimulating the dog, but get upset when your dog reacts to it. From that point the staff is already singling out your dog, just waiting for your animal to do one thing wrong. The staff allows the "regulars" to do what they please. Multiple people screaming profanity, when they were not present to witness their dogs actions but show up screaming explicit words and demanding they kick us out. What a phenomenal concept! The staff are always so friendly, the vibe is relaxed, and the bar offers a nice variety of alcoholic and non alcoholic options! I love how you can trust the staff and other responsible dog owners to play and fawn over your pup in a SAFE and well kept environment. A great idea, but conditions today were less than ideal. From what I understand, their food license has been taken away recently so no food available, only drinks. Drinks (such as their house marg) were good, but some were quite small. The place was packed with dogs and due to some recent rain (within the last 2 days) it was still pretty muddy. Staff was helpful when they could be and did give dogs water & clean up some puke from the ground when it happened. Pups were having a great time, but unlike a dog park some owners were drinking / working / checked out and not making sure their dogs were playing nice. Dogs were also all over the picnic tables which was cute, but wish there were some higher options so random dogs can't just hop on your table and knock over your drinks. There was supposed to be a separate small dog area but no one appeared to be using it (unsure if it was due to mud or something else). My pups and I loooooove Yard Bar. You can purchase a monthly pass, which gets you and your pup unlimited entry for a month, a day pass, or a 5 day pass. There are 2 parks, one for the small pups and one for the large pups. Unfortunately, just like any enclosed dog park, the large pup park has all the fun! It's connected to the bar, has ample space to run around in, and has just as many tables as it does space. The small pup park? Not so much. It has maybe 3 benches and a little course-- that's it. I usually take my boys into the large pup park, and try to find other little ones to play with. If you are purchasing food, you have to step outside of the dog park and walk to the opposite end of the bar. The food is excellent bar food, and they also have items on the menu for your pups. read more

My main point of advice would be to always keep an eye on your dog. It can be annoying for someone's dog to be constantly barking in your face or just being a little too aggressive with the other dogs and the owner is nowhere to be found. Been here quite a few times and my dog loves it. Unfortunately due to my work schedule and being visually impaired and not sure to drive, he doesn't get a lot of play time with other pups. But he makes up for it every time we go to Yard Bar! The staff is always pretty friendly and it's a reasonable price for a day pass. There's tables and chairs all throughout so plenty of places to sit and enjoy a drink while the fur babies are playing. They offer things from beer and cocktails to just soda and water if you don't feel like alcohol. I know in the past they had nights they would put up a projector screen and show movies, but not sure if they've got that going again since covid. There is staff that wake around to make sure everyone is getting along and they are pretty fast to step in if any of the doggos get a bit too feisty. Though sometimes they don't always see who started the affirmation and might blame the wrong dog, it's usually an honest mistake. Can't have eyes on everyone all of the time unfortunately. It's up to the owners to take responsibility and keep an eye on their pups too. I haven't tried the new food place that they share a space with yet but hoping to really soon! read more

She runs around, she jumps, she barks, she does all the things happy dogs do. Then why give The Yard Bar one star? Why give a small local business owner one star? Why give one star to a business during this crazy world we live in now? A world where my personal review of YB is worth a grain of salt in the ocean. The Reason: I will not be spoken to or treated like a child. I will not be spoken to in a condescending tone. I will be treated as an adult. I will be treated as a customer who spends his hard earn money in your business. I am not a Karen or a Kevin. I am not a 1% individual. I am a Walter Mitty type. I just go about doing my business without being noticed. I am a guy who wakes up every morning and wants to may sure his Stella Blue has a wonderful and safe life. I would do everything and anything for my Stella Blue. Except for one thing, I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THE YARD BAR. This is a fact; The Yard Bar until last Saturday 3.20.21 was my favorite place in Austin. I can have a beer, a burger, catch some rays and watch my Stella Blue run around with all her little friends. Life is good here for a couple of hours while we have to live in an environment of turmoil and craziness. My wife and I were at the YB between 2 and 4 pm on this date. We had a couple of beers and we were ready for burger time. Ordered a couple of burgers. Gave my digits for paging. Got a number and back to my RESERVATION table. Bark Ranger came over said there is a problem with paging, but your food is ready. Thank you so much. We went from our RESERVATION table to the patio area for the delivery of burgers. Ate a delicious burger. Back we go to our RESERVATION table. When we came back to our RESERVATION table. Our nameplate was removed and someone else was there. Went over to the check-in window and see what was going on. Explain the situation and it all went downhill. I was told that when you leave the dog park; you lose the RESERVATION. I explain to the attendant that I went to eat my food at the patio bar area as instructed by the bartender. I was told that people ate at the end of their visit. Let me be very clear. I do not do well when someone "TELLS ME WHEN I CAN EAT". They can go (fill in the word(s). No signs of empathy from the attendant. Just follow the rules and policy. Move on sir. Went back inside the dog park. I asked the Bark Ranger, who told me my food was ready at my RESERVATION table, and I asked to see a manager. Guy came out after five minutes or so and I explained the situation. Again, I was told to follow the rules and policy by a person who showed no empathy or listening skills. It was you leave; no more RESERVATION; these are the rules and policies. We are very busy I am told. As I pointed out ten open tables. False wait. Meanwhile, I saw 7 or 8 dog owners within my first hour with no reservations sent away with ten open tables. I follow the rules at YB. I wear a mask. I social distance. I open one door at a time when I come in or out of the park. I pick up my dog's poop, I make sure my girl plays nice. I make sure she does not intrude on other customer's space. I follow a two-hour reservation time for tables. I make a reservation to come inside. I follow no dog treats or food inside the dog park. I eat my food at the patio bar area. I follow all the rules posted and common-sense ones too. The manager's body language was just giving him away. Hands crossed. Then hands-on hip. The eyes-rolling. He was not noticing this at all. All he had to say these are the rules. Follow them. No questions ask. I hope this was not the GM with a degree in Hospitality from Purdue. I have no problem following these rules once you leave, you're done; Just post them. Sign at the exit door "no re-entry". Inform the bartender; to inform all guests that when you order food you can't come back in". I am sure I am not the first customer with this issue and won't be the last. Such a fun concept to do an offleash dog park with a bar. They also have "park rangers" that watch out for the dogs to make sure no ones getting too rowdy. We did a day pass for $9. Coming from Southern California, in the 30+ yrs I have lived there, I only know of a few places that are pet-friendly, but definitely nothing like the Yard Bar. I came to yard bar with my dog for the first time about 6 months ago now. Now we go at least 3-4 days a week! It is an amazing spot to let my pup play and get all her energy out while I can also get my work done for the day. They just recently added a kitchen with some of the best burgers and food in town and a great happy hour and beer selection. The staff are amazing all trained to de-escalate the doggos when needed. Wow! I know that dog-friendly bars are popping up all over the country, but Yard Bar is truly heads above the rest. The difference? Fantastic facilities and superlative staff. Yard Bar provides a large, well-maintained mulch lot--unlike the small concrete lots I've seen at competitors. This makes for a safer, more pleasant, and less stinky environment for me and my dog. As with any business, the staff make Yard Bar really special. Bark Rangers keep order and safety in the park, a far cry from the "wild west" of the typical dog park. Chris, Elizabeth, and Tyler are special standouts who will get to know you and your dog. Bar and food staff are also amazing! Manager Paul is both friendly and professional--my dog and I are always happy to see him and he's quick with a tailored recommendation! He and his team (Zak, Cara, and more!) provide excellent, personalized service and really make you feel at home. This is a special place not only to get your dog some needed exercise and socialization, but also to meet friends who will begin to feel like a real dog community. I do really like this dog park place I just don't like how now and then this happens. This is why I cancel my membership. I don't need to go to the vet because another dog bit my dog. Usually there is 5 to 10 dogs gained up on one dog and they act like that are is OK. Also employees kind of laid back until something happens and then they run to it. That does not give them time to correct the dog or something bad happens it's too late. Also customers harass you if your want to protect your dog. You should be able to protect your dog. I have tried to talk to a manager but you can never talk to the person who is the boss. I just feel bad that this is like it. I now have to find a new dog part for my puppy. read more

What a clever idea!! If I were a dog, this would be my hangout for sure!! Plenty of space for dogs of all sizes to run and roam; plenty of seating for owners to sit and enjoy their drink of choice while watching their pups play with other friendly pups. Dog owners, be sure to watch your pups and clean up behind them when they poo; bags are provided for such incidents, but there were some unclaimed patties that had me on high alert (especially the later it got). If you have a shy pooch, the crowd can be a bit overwhelming on a Friday evening after work, but if you're the type of parent I am and want to lovingly push your bashful one out of their comfort zone so they can build their social skills, this is a great and safe place to do it! We checked Yard Bar out after hearing an acquaintance of mine held a doggo birthday party here. There is a non dog park section where food is allowed. Of course, there weren't a lot of gluten free options except for the deviled eggs and hummus plate. The deviled eggs were too spicy for me. Food is not allowed in the paid dog park. For $5.50/dog, you can bring drinks into the small or large dog park. Admission isn't free even if you paid for food or drinks. Puppies must be at least four months old to be allowed into the dog park. Our puppies enjoyed the small dog park, but weren't safe in the large dog park. A large friendly dog we met named Levi, was bitten and bleeding next to his eye, while we were there. Even large dogs aren't safe in the large dog park.
