A lot of the younger classes focussed on skill building, but not much direct soccer which was what my little guy wanted. Lots of obstacle courses and games, but some weeks he didn't even get to kick a ball into a net (the epitome of what soccer means at that age). Also, they make you buy a uniform every year ($40) which I thought was unnecessary and a lame way of taking more money.

We've encountered many…read morephenomenal coaches: Coach Andrea, Coach Crystal, Coach Quinci, Coach Leo, and Coach Ahren to name a few. These coaches spend their weekends getting to know our children and teaching them skills that are useful on and off the field. My son loves the color red and often wants red colored cones, hula hoops, etc...A few months ago one of his three coaches was Coach Leah and we really enjoyed her- she is now one of his main coaches. A few weeks back, not seeing our son in probably months, Coach Leah addressed him by his name and handed him a piece of red equipment telling him how she knows he likes red. It's positive interactions like this, that show how much effort and heart these coaches put into this toddler program. Kickstart could be an easy cash grab with coaches who just show up to work- this is not the case. I love what Kickstart is about and I can't wait until our youngest is able to start this program.

These are all community teams sponsored by the RR center. There are also numerous indoor activities in the full-size gym all summer long - open basketball, indoor volleyball, and the like (it's as if kids get to experience P.E. class all over again!) Macomb Community College also presents a large number of short classes during summer months at RR, which is most interesting to me. Contact MCC for a catalog of classes offered - anything from one-evening classes on basket weaving, motorcycle riding, to "how to publish a novel." They have a lot of really cool topics that are affordable for anyone looking to get into a new hobby, or touch up on old habits.

Our son absolutely loves Coach Ahren and Coach Alex along with his Mini Dragon friends! Coach Ahren knows how to keep up with all these little feet and still change it up to their needs and wants! He's always making things fun but always putting soccer in it! From team work to passing to toe touches to agility to pull backs and more... This is an absolutely incredible program and great gross motor skills and problem solving! To boast three sheets of ice in modern day rinks is almost unheard of. These folks juggle that with no problem. All the ice here is expertly maintained. You'll always hear me bitch at the figure skaters for destroying the ice with toe picks and as such blowing-out the knees of unsuspecting hockey players. Not here. The magicians seem to anticipate this and react accordingly. Smooth sheets. Safe knees! There's a rather large parking area and you'll find quite the variety at the concession stand. Their main lobby also features plenty of bench seating and they have an ample meeting area. The bathrooms are decent but are at the rink ends, not off the main lobby. What few staff you deal with are fabulous and you can still visit Mrs. Jones and her top notch pro shop. While two of the arenas have more than enough bleacher space, the smaller rink needs more seating. That can't (or won't) be changed, sobeit. Costs obviously have increased due to Covid and its tentacles. They do have sophisticated aids and are still the goto for figure skating instruction.
