What I've found though, that is very different to the USA, is that the Drivers tend to drop you off or pick you up on the opposite side of the road, when they can easily drop you off or pick you up on the side of the street that you're on. It's so odd...and annoying. I remember one time our driver came to pick us up and took up the lane on the other side of the road, even though it was a one way street with no traffic. What I've also noticed is that great reviews aren't necessarily a true indicator of whether a driver is good. You can have someone with glowing reviews that doesn't drive properly or isn't the most polite. All in all I will use Uber again because of the ease of logistics and the time.

Drivers give a scenic tour of Toronto in order to run up the meter, and if you get one that manages to avoid ongoing red lights - they slow down in order to get them - good for you. These cab owners rent their cabs out to others, not legal, the owner of the cab, whose name should be displayed, is supposed to be the one driving. These cabs are going 24 hours a day / 7 days a week. Shocks absorbers are gone. They are the worst cab company in any country we have ever lived in. The first driver about six months ago told me he was driving slowly because there was snow on the side of the road yet the street we were driving down was cleanly plowed. Then he said I should have given him a tip and I told him that he gave himself a tip by driving so slowly. As he was getting back into the cab his parting words were "Now I know who you are!" delivered with a finger stabbing at me. I hailed a cab at the grocery store today and it turned out to be Ambassador again. The driver went very, very slowly. I suggested he could drive a bit faster and he started blathering away about there being traffic cameras everywhere (there aren't). He started making all sorts of excuses like explaining to me that he drove slowly past a pedestrian on the adjacent sidewalk for "human safety reasons". When we were just about to pull into my apartment building parking lot the driver stopped the cab to talk to a woman standing nearby minding her own business; she was as confused as I was angry! I told the driver to move it and he started shouting "I am not your servant!". Ambassador Express Taxi is a business to be avoided. The drivers do whatever they can to run the fare up as high as they can and then they shout at you if you complain; the drivers are scam artists. Stick with Beck or Co-op or some other professional taxi company. Avoid Ambassador Taxi whenever possible.
