In summary, pre-booking is USELESS. Today, my Dad was discharged from rehab. I used the Beck Taxi app to prebook a wheelchair accessible van to pick us up at 9:30am. I thought the way pre-booking works is that Beck Taxi will find a wheelchair accessible van IN ADVANCE and be there at 9:30am. SURPRISE! NO, THAT'S NOT HOW IT WORKS! They'll call to see if there's one available starting at 9:30am pick-up time. I talked to their representatives over the phone 3 times and there's still no resolution that I had to cancel. The last representative I spoke to even blamed me for not booking via the operator when I mentioned that there's no point in pre-booking. Yes, pre-booking is pretty much useless. read more

Like others who were foolish enough to assume a booking with a confirmation meant a cab would be arriving at the agreed-to time and date, a booking means nothing. In our case, my wife and I were waiting at 7:15 am for our cab en route for an appointment at Mt. Sinai hospital; it was snowing, and as the clock ticked passed the scheduled time I called, wondering if bad weather had slowed him down. The dispatcher could not have been more rude or dismissive. "No cabs!" She said if there was anyone to blame it was the city for not clearing the roads faster! Look, I get that bad weather can mess up the best laid plans. But creating an online booking service to encourage people to book online and to issue confirmations is a form of deceit if all you mean is, If a driver is available at that time we'll send him over. And in this day and age, why couldn't Beck have issued a blanket text message to the effect that heavy snow had essentially shut the service down? At least the customer might not be left hanging. I had booked a wheelchair accessible cab for a relative staying at Toronto General. The cab arrived on time but the driver had wanted an extra $10 for extra items on top of the wheelchair that I was carrying. I immediately called Beck's dispatch operator to ask if there was an additional charge. I explained to her. I could easily put the extra items in a shopping bag and hold it on my lap. I put the call on speakerphone so the driver could hear the entire conversation. He grumbled and complained that he wouldn't take another order from my address again. I was going to ride up in the front seat but it was messy with garbage on the seat. He didn't bother to secure the wheelchair inside the cab like most drivers. I will definitely think twice about booking from Beck or getting the same driver again. read more

Tonight in major hour long downpour with extreme lightning and thunder, Uber rates from downtown to my hotel in Brampton went from $49 to $135 surge pricing. After walking in a complete downpour to the subway which closed early at 11 PM, I found an honorable taxi driver that stopped in the driving rain who said he would take me for $80. He found the quickest route possible and I was able to get in my hotel room and DRY OFF in no time! He also was a very SAFE and cautious driver driving in bad weather conditions but leaving enough car lengths to the vehicles in front of him. I hailed a taxi Saturday night downtown Toronto to get home. On arrival, I asked to pay with my credit card. The driver told me he only took debit, which I agreed to. Red flag I should have caught. He swiped my card, said the swipe didn't work, then passed me the machine for me to proceed card chip in. I punched my code and paid for my taxi. Since then, $2000.00 has been stolen from my bank account for purchases at Mac's and Circle K, a withdrawal, and a transfer from my credit card to my bank account. The driver was friendly and we talked during the ride. I was not expecting this. The driver also gave me someone else's card. I noticed all of this the following day when doing online banking. I called Beck and was transferred to a voicemail with no greeting message. I should have known better. Be mindful and careful when hailing taxis. read more

This taxi picked me up from the CN Tower and drove me to St. Lawrence Market. The driver, Ahmed was really nice and knew a lot about Toronto. He told me to go to St. Lawrence Market go get a bite to eat, which I did. I ended up really enjoying myself there! The taxi fare was really not that bad and the ride was fairly quick. It was also nice that they had a credit card machine, which I could pay with! For the most part, the car was nice as it had all of its seat belts and it did not smell bad. My only concern, was that there was a Starbucks cup in the side cup-holder. Altogether, this is the best taxi company that I used while in Toronto! read more

Absolutely appalled at the service we got today. Our dog Jax was suffering an emergency. We had to get him to the pet hospital ten minutes up the street from us immediately. Our Beck Taxi driver arrived and even though our medium sized dog was in distress, he refused to take us and just drove away. He never explained why. He didn't order us another taxi either. I called your dispatch to order another cab and they blamed us for the problem saying we should have indicated we had a pet even though there is no such option on your app. Let me repeat this... While we were experiencing a family crisis, a family emergency that your driver drove away from she blamed us for the problem. The next driver came and took us no problem. He couldn't understand why the driver wouldn't take us when it was an emergency. He apologized and wished us well. He also told us your drivers have the option of not transporting pets. So riding past the Food Basics at Sheppard and Victoria Park I noticed a kid maybe 12-14 years old feeding pigeons. Nice memory as we fed them in Paris too. Anyway a 30s male starts going towards him yelling so I thought I would pull off and intervene if things needed. As I rode up, parked and got off my bike a Beck's Taxi van driver got out of his van and put himself between the boy and the Dick yelling at the boy (his humble soft spoken nature, ESL limitation did not entice the guy to back off). So when I approached and backed the driver the young guy with the black painted nails realised it maybe time to walk off. Unfortunately the kid did get scared and ran away hopping into a car with his family. Anyway, just because of their drivers putting himself in harms way to protect a "child" I will use them if I ever need to book a cab. Beck's office staff and dispatchers need to get their act together. I ordered my taxi (a van) new years eve morning to take my family to church. I ordered a van because there was a baby under 1 and small children. I know the hassles of getting a cab to and from on new years eve that's why I ordered ahead of time. The drop off to church was fine. Just imagine being left stranded at 12:30am by Beck Taxi after they had already confirmed (twice)my pick up at 12:15 am. So many different b.s excuses. Whomever you booked with should have told you you can't pre book cabs, B.S! We can't find anything booked under your name and number for that time, B.S! You found it perfectly fine when we were to be dropped off at church. Even confirmed the pick up from church again then. We do not have any vans available. I was told if my family of small children and I want to get home they can send 2 cabs. So, a...I'll have to pay double the fare, b...I'll have to put lil kids in a cab with a stranger. Make that make sense?!!! I've been faithful to Beck for many years until I got my car. Their services were excellent in the past. Snow Storm brings out the good and worst in us at times, take for example this taxi. He was in the front of Costco, where, understandably, was waiting for a customer. But when you're urged by a Costco representative to proceed because no one is still getting in your vehicle then it's common courtesy to move on. When reiterated to do so again this time by me, a woman, the taxi driver responded with a vulgar name and proceeded to throw insult. This sorry excuse of a human being's action speaks a lot about his character, an individual with no decorum and etiquette. Another unpleasant encounter with this cab company. I was crossing the intersection with my pup in Riverdale at around 830 pm. It was one day after snow storm, all the street corners had snowbanks up to the ying yang, this cab stopped at the stop sign for a second, did not wait for me to complete my cross, and went through the intersection. The driver even had the guts to roll down his passsenger window to said something like, why did I walk so slow. The street was slippery man and it was in a residential area! This cab company is unethical. I had been a loyal customer for years - often calling in to praise exceptional drivers/service. NOT ANY MORE. Their customer service staff is RUDE, CONDESCENDING and SOCIOPATHIC. They left me standing out in the cold while waiting for 3 cab drivers. I am physically impaired and had let that be known upfront when I called in. I had asked that they wait patiently while I descended three flights of stairs - they did not. NO. NEVER. SCREW THIS. I CAN'T. I don't support taxis (have you seen that horrendous youtube video when a taxi driver literally jumped onto an uber during the 2016 protest?!?). I highkey can't deal with the crazy green and orange cabs flying around toronto. When I drive downtown, they always find a way to sneak into my lane, regardless of how close they've come to scraping my car. When I'm walking downtown, there are so many times when I'm almost run over because they're running a yellow or too impatient to stop before they turn right on a red. Sooo much no. Today was the worst snow storm of toronto all season.. I had to get somewhere at 5:30pm and I finish work at 5:30.. and the storm hit. It was already ROUGH in my mind. Uber was surged, I peeked out the window to see people and cars slipping everywhere. Ugh. My boss recommended I take beck taxi because it's not surged and you can order one to show up anytime. My office is right across eaton's so I was terrified for the driver too, in the storm. I'd say I called my taxi, but I couldn't - it's one line and it's BUSY .. it just gives you the beeps, not even a hold message..... I ordered the cab online and it's so shitty.. couldn't track the cab, no service updates.. all it said was "we'll call you if there's a problem" and I ordered it to arrive at 5:20pm. At 5:26pm, I'm still sitting at my desk, bundled up.. trying to track down my taxi but no luck with the phone or website. I ended up ordering an uber at 5:28pm and it came at 5:30pm exactly. What a pleasant surprise. Super fast, friendly and efficient service. I have to say I was a lil apprehensive because of the low rating and bad reviews but I'm really glad I took a chance. I ended up using them to go both directions and did not wait more than 4 minutes to be picked up each time. Both drivers were friendly and took my lead with directions no problem. Worst taxi company in town. Their drivers are rude and constantly park on the city's bike lanes to load and unload customers. There are so many accidents because of this sort of behaviour. If I could give -5 stars I would . A Beck taxi driver just almost caused a major accident, swerved into my lane on the 427S. I honked my horn...you would think he would realize his mistake, adjust and travel back into his lane. Noooooo, instead he still proceeds to cross into my lane, even with my horn blaring. I had to end up moving over to the right lane and thankfully there were no cars or trucks within close proximity. I have his license plate and cab number and will be lodging a formal complaint. I was stuck as I travel by ambulance and there was an EMS emergency, so I chanced on Beck's number and not only can they accommodate wheelchairs, but they can accommodate ones that are semi-reclined, with elevated leg rests -- and for no extra cost (except a good tip)! They have 2 sizes of wheelchair taxis so be sure to ask for the one with the most room when calling in if that's what you need. I received the wrong one on the trip home, which caused a 20-min delay as they had o find a new one, and the driver stopped the taxi on the Bayview Extension because he said I was "breaking the door". How convenient! We went downstairs to wait for the cab a couple of minutes early, and it allows you to see that the cab is en route. (Also allows you to cancel, which in our case we did) We ordered it for 7:10pm as we had reservations for 7:30pm. We waited...and waited...we even got a phone call at 7:15pm, and while I wasn't a party to the conversation, I heard my boyfriend tell the taxi driver that we were waiting downstairs. By 7:25pm I said screw it, as we had seen taxi after taxi going by on a nearby street. It would mean we'd have to walk in the rain a bit, but at least we'd get a taxi! I would never use this app again. If I had a more important appointment or flight to catch or something, I would be a lot more angry that my cab isn't on time. Doesn't really seem like there's a point to an iPhone app that doesn't do what it's supposed to. read more

I forgot it was possible to get good back to back cab rides anymore living in Ottawa but another cab ride with Beck and another fun time! I had to take a cab a few weeks ago as I was running late. The cab driver said no problem and took some awesome routes in and around town to avoid the Santa Clause parade. During this cab ride he told me all the ins and outs of cabbies and some of his stories. I'm pretty sure I was almost in tears with some of the hilarity and shenanigans! He got me to my destination in record time and thanked him profusely. Last night with a bunch of luggage in tow, I hailed down a cabbie and he helped me grab my heavy bag and toss it into the trunk of the car. He asked me how the temperature of the car was, what radio station I wanted to listen to and what route I wanted to take! AWESOME! We turned on a station I hadn't heard in awhile and had a cool conversation about Toronto on the drive back. I'm not sure how it happened but part way into the cab ride we both started singing one of the songs and started laughing our asses off. He got me to my destination in no time and helped me out with my luggage again! Vastly different from my Ottawa cab ride yesterday were the driver popped the trunk and sat in the car for me to put my bags in. When I sat down he immediately dialed someone on his cell and talked at a tone in which if I was on the phone I'm sure he'd given me crap or asked me to stop and talked the whole ride to my destination. Absolutely disgusting service. Taxi driver first refused to put on a seatbelt. He then passed our exit on purpose even with the GPS on. When we asked why he passed the exit he stopped in the middle of the highway, turned off his meter and proceeded to speak to us like dogs. I have a video and pictures of him with no seatbelt, of him yelling at us and of him being stopped on the highway and also in the middle of an intersection. I used Beck Taxi in the early 2000's in Toronto and found it to be a very good company. I would not use it now as I have seen them drive in unsafe ways. Today I saw a Beck Taxi, #A57, refuse to stop while a pedestrian was still crossing at a crosswalk. The same driver cut in front of others with little regard for those others and their safety. Cab drivers complain about Uber (which I don't like either) but you no longer give us trust in your ability, your cabs are often dirty and your drivers are frequently rude. I would love to see a cab company return to the standards of the Nineties and you'd soon see us flocking back to cabs even if they cost a little more. Come on Toronto, don't you have some young people who aspire to have a truly great cab company?? read more
