Last week, my daughter saw Dr. Alvarado for the first time alongside Soli, who has been caring for my kids for years. Together, they were an absolute blessing. They didn't just provide excellent dental care--they created a space where my daughter felt safe, heard, and genuinely cared for. Their kindness, patience, professionalism, and knowledge were evident from start to finish. They took the time to do a thorough exam, explained everything clearly, and made sure we felt informed and comfortable every step of the way. As a parent, there's nothing more valuable than knowing your children are in compassionate, capable hands. Dr. Alvarado and Soli truly embody that rare combination of excellence and heart. Thank you both for making such a positive impact on our family. Super Dentists is fortunate to have you!

After arriving, I was informed that the dentist was not in and that I would need to reschedule for another day. This was extremely frustrating and a complete waste of my time, especially since there was no advance notice or courtesy call before I came in. I also had to travel a long distance and waste gas to make it to this appointment, only to be turned away at the door. What made it even more concerning was being told that this "happens a lot." If this truly happens a lot, then maybe someone should pay attention and fix the issue instead of repeatedly inconveniencing patients. People arrange their schedules, take time off, travel, and make an effort to be on time for their appointments. Patients deserve better communication, better organization, and more respect for their time.

If you have ever worked in a toxic workplace you will sense it here. No one smiles unless it's time to interact with you. Everyone is on pins and needles because they know the purpose: move as many kids through as possible, as quickly as possible, with as little attention to the individual as possible. They are fundamentally unhappy people, you can tell, when they greet you when they go through their scripted lines to get you moving as quickly as possible. A fake smile here to reassure the unwary. Toxic. It comes out in other ways too. If you ask too many questions, ask for alternatives, discuss what is happening, these are things that slow down the conveyor belt. These are absolutely not greeted with happiness, and can land you in hot water. This horrid, well polished treadmill will not give you the service your child deserves. Go elsewhere.

Dr. Soudabeh Sharafi is unprofessional, and unethical. The first time I experienced this with her…read morewas several years ago when I was forced to pay for unneeded sedation which insurance didn't cover. Recently, I attempted to give her the benefit of the doubt and came in again because sedation was needed. During the last appointment, I overlooked her dog running around the office, almost escaping out the front door of the building, because I love dogs, though was thinking pet hair floating around a space clients have their mouths open isn't ideal. The final level of completely unprofessional and unethical behavior, however, came today when she texted to schedule a followup appointment to complete treatment. While texting back and forth to find a good time to come in, I asked if I could make a business suggestion. She asked what I meant, so with every intent on being helpful I mentioned her website address as it relates to how clients see it, "delmarpedo.com", in that "pedo" these days is mostly used as shorthand for pedophile. As she said I am the only one who ever pointed this out, I replied that it's likely because it is an awkward conversation and maybe she should check with a trusted friend. This was all it took to have her refuse to communicate with my children and me about follow up treatment. She made a point of telling me as of May, she would no longer serve Medi-Cal patients, I assume to shame me for having Medi-Cal at present and to assuage her own tender ego. When she recently gave up her own office to share space with another practice, I assumed it was that the rent was high and she didn't have enough clients to stay there which is why I mentioned the web address. Being the "pedo" dentist of Del Mar, might be an extra bad look these days with the Epstein Files in the media, so my bringing it up was done in the spirit of helping a business owner who might not have taken the connotation into account. As she clearly looks down on her Medi-Cal clients, she was unable to see me as someone who could help her. Unfortunately, with this continuous pattern of poor behavior, I don't think anyone can.

I called her because her name was on our insurance directory, but apparently it was her another office. I didn't find out that she was out of network until our insurance claim for 4 cavities and 1 extraction got rejected due to incomplete information. She kept blaming it on our insurance not trusting her, but after reading reviews here, I'm guessing our insurance has her record of unnecessary procedures. And it seems at least one of his teeth didn't needed to be filled since our insurance denied the claim even after submitting before-after x-ray. We ended up paying $734.03 out of pocket in addition to $289 co-pay. Insurance paid her $255.11 for 3 cavities (claim for 1 cavity and 1 extraction was denied again) but she refunded us $239.00 (I guess she really needed that $16.11 she didn't forward to us...). We will take this as an expensive lesson to do our research before going to any dentists, but I wanted to leave my review to warn others.

However, because this practice came so highly recommended by several people, I feel it's important to share my experience in hopes of helping other parents make an informed decision. Throughout our time with this practice, I repeatedly felt that the approach was more one size fits all than individualized. As a parent, I wasn't looking to challenge the doctor's expertise. I simply wanted to understand the reasoning behind the recommendations so I could make the best decision for my child. The biggest concern involved my newly three-year-old son, who has sensory and behavioral challenges. I had an airway appt bc of his sleep. He was recommended both upper and lower expanders. I went home and thought about it and wrote the doctor an email. I wasn't asking whether the treatment was appropriate; I wanted to understand what the potential consequences would be if we waited another year, given his age and unique circumstances. Unfortunately, the only response I consistently received from the staff (not the doctor) was, "she wouldn't have recommended it if she didn't think it was appropriate." While I respect the doctor's opinion, that didn't answer my question or help me weigh the risks and benefits of waiting. What made the experience more frustrating was that I couldn't have a follow up conversation with the doctor (only her team) without scheduling and paying for another appointment. After pushing this issue, I got a response "from the doctor" that I felt was AI generated. I also felt pressure to move forward with treatment because I was repeatedly told the cost could increase if we delayed. EVEN IN A MONTH! It left me feeling as though there was more urgency around committing to treatment than around helping me fully understand my options. Because I still didn't feel comfortable, I sought multiple second opinions. Each provider I consulted told me that in this case they would not recommend expanders for my child at this age, especially due to his sensory and behavioral challenges. While I understand that medicine is not always black and white and professionals can have different philosophies, those conversations made me feel that my son's individual needs had not been fully considered. This also wasn't my first disappointing experience with the practice. We previously had my son's tongue and lip tie released there as an infant, but unfortunately it did not improve anything. Looking back, I wish I had taken more time to seek additional opinions before moving forward. After sharing my experience with other parents, I was surprised by how many described similar concerns about it feeling like a factory. That ultimately gave me the confidence to write this review. I understand that many families have had positive experiences here, and I'm genuinely happy for them. But if you're a parent who likes to ask questions, understand the reasoning behind treatment recommendations, and explore whether there are REASONABLE ALTERNATIVES, my experience may be worth considering. I simply hope this helps another family make the decision that's right for their child.
