Kilarney West: The Ritz of Washington County golf courses. It earns that name not by offering the plush amenities of a luxury hotel chain, but by turning its clubhouse into stale box of cheap crackers. This corn-pone course that's basically a step above a muni is what you get when you push out too far to draw folks from Nike and Adidas, but just far enough to ensure multiple weekends with Roscoe and Cletus. The photos on this Yelp page aren't selfies: They're warnings. For a bargain-basement price, you're about to go ankle-sock-deep into a layer of Washington County Good Ol' Boy that's going to be just fine dropping the occasional slur, being as homophobic as an '80s high school bully, and looking as if they went out as the Oakleys-and-beards meme for Halloween. Killarney West is the course where you take your dad on Father's Day when you want to discuss underpaying your farm workers. It's the course where you have loud dialogues about a guy you know who bought a boat with the bonus he got for signing up with ICE. It's the course where you tell the clubhouse bartender you're convinced that the gal with the purple hair and nose ring and the place you went to in Portland just before the Eric Church show at Moda Center last year put something weird in your whiskey. With any luck, Killarney West will be a truffle-foraging park or a bio winery and tasting room in our near future. Right now, it's the best place to see Hillsboro Towing repossess a Style Motors lift kit special with five payments past due and two grand worth of clubs up in the bed. read more

The manager would rather argue with you than provide a solution. We made it to hole 4 where 4 groups had managed to stack up. (not the first time to happen here). When bringing up the situation to the Woman manager, she said we were playing to quickly. i Explained that last visit we exceeded 3 hours for 9 holes, she said i was not telling the truth. in order to not blow up, I chose to walk away from her and rejoin my wife and 14 year old son. This was not good for her, she had to come out and yell at the 3 of us that our complaint was not valid. I did not ask her to come out and confront us. So I was forced into walking away so I would t be further agitated by this witch. I simply can't believe the awful customer service at this establishment. NEVER GOING BACK! DO NOT GO HERE !!! Been playing here for 15 years. Greens greatly improved over last 3 years. Family-owned and friendly. Last week there were deer on the 1st hole in the evening. Best value in the Portland area. Horrible de-escalation, poor course, poor management, shady hidden fees. Today we tried to play 18 holes of golf at Killarney which came out to a grand total of $90 dollars. The first nine were OK even with horrible green conditions however it on the back nine took two hours to play three holes called called the front desk. They did nothing cause the group in front of us to try to argue with us, threatened our life, we called them again they did nothing. As a twosome decided to skip at the group of five they try to fight us management did nothing horrible course, horrible management. read more

This place has totally revamped and become a new course. I believe the previous owners son and his wife took over and he's done a great job changing the course around. The grounds have improved immensely, it is a challenging course which makes it fun. The staff is super friendly, they've got a few new young workers and one of the guys is rather handsome! Fun little course and would play here all time if I was not grossed out by all the Trump propaganda. I played here for a few years pretty regularly but it seemed like every time I was there there would be a new sign of flag. It is not limited to just the residents on the property either. I started noticing it in the clubhouse as well. I get that people have different political views however I don't understand why anyone would plaster their business supporting an obviously controversial shithead. This place is trash. I have been to Meriwether, Pumpkin Ridge, Red Tail and Wildwood and I have never been more harassed by the Marshall before. We were a party of 3 and they stopped us 3 times to tell us to go faster because we were 4 minutes over our scheduled time. We were in the middle of the 8th hole (they only offer 9 original holes)! And there was no one behind us. We did let a single play thru because he was obvi faster. The cherry on top is that they are huge Trump supporters! Gross! I will never be returning here, ever. We have been going here since the early 90's for birthdays and other celebrations, but today they ruined all that. read more

Wonderful place for a leisurely round on a Sunday. Probably plays faster during the week, but simply a great place to play cheap golf. It's a lot like McMenamins. You know the service isn't going to be the best, but it is a great place to eat. Great pace for a beginner or for the little ones. We took our three out and with two carts were able to keep pace, no problem. Friendly staff and cheap beer make the round that much more enjoyable! read more

Ho, this is in the boonies! The cousin and I went, just because we were trying to play most of all the courses we could in the Portland area. This one is on the boarder in the backwoods of Hillsboro. When I say backwoods, I mean a shotgun going off in your back-swing kind of backwoods. No lie, that really happened to us. On top of that we encountered an almost 3 hour 9 hole round. We sat on one tee box for I don't know how long. It wasn't too bad cause we just shot the breeze for a while, no pun intended. Of course we did probably go during the height of the busy golf season, but that's pretty much unheard of. One reason that might attribute the longer rounds is that it's a beginner course. A flat track all the way around. You also have your 12 pack beer toting natives also. That's something I would take a page from though. On the plus side, it's straight cheap though. If you're coming from Portland, map it out. read more

I come here often and have never had a bad experience here. The course itself is not the best, a little sub par but it is a fun course! The owners and all employees have always been very nice and accommodating. The course is cheap to play and drinks are cheap as well. If you're not a wannabe pro golfer and just a golfer that likes to get out and play a round or two it's a great course! It's $8 for 9 holes on weekdays and $10 for 9 holes on weekends. They do not usually overbook like a lot of other cheaper courses do, it's always a pretty laid back round of golf. IT'S WORTH A TRY! read more

I do not recommend this course. I decided to take my wife to get out of the house due to the pandemic. Golf is one of the few things that the public is allowed to do. They want to charge green fees for caddying. This is usually typical of nice courses during normal times. I understand it's a normal charge but the keeper was blunt and acted like she didn't even want to deal with me. I had no problem going right down the street to McKay. They had no issues with my wife walking with me at no charge. Forest Hills also said they would not charge. Shame on Killarney for charging green fees for caddys at a time like this. I asked my friends and co-workers where to golf, all the answers were the same. Don't go to Killarney. I understand why they don't golf there. The people suck. read more

Angry old lady that works here will really ruin the experience. If you are planning just to go and have fun, this isn't the course for you. I went with a group of 4 others on a day where there was literally nobody else there and she was being a total jerk. The course itself is pretty terrible too. The greens are horrible and they don't seem to be even attempting to repair them. The price is cheap but you get what you pay for. Just go to McKay creek right down the road. Never ever would I give this place my business due to the recent experience by a friend: My friend's neighbor took his 11 year old son golfing at Killarney Golf course on Saturday. His son is just learning to golf. On the 4th hole his son shanks the ball and the three idiots playing behind them said "that's why N@ggers don't belong on a golf course"... right in front of his son! Long story short, this man didn't start hitting these idiots with his club, instead he went to the owners, who called the cops. The owners told my neighbor that these guys were regulars and they didn't want to lose their business, even though other golfers heard this and also complained! This kind of behavior should not be tolerated! Not only will I never do business at Killarney, but I want to let others know what horrible management practices and tolerance for hate and racism is accepted there. The Cornelius police department cannot do anything because freedom of speech. All my friend's neighbor said was "it is a good learning experience for his son to understand tolerance". This is a bang for your buck golf course. Serene, groomed, and inexpensive. You play nine whole and it costs only $9. It can't get any better than that. The courses are for beginners, but there are holes that seem easy, but difficult to master and vice-versa. I went here after work on a Friday night with a couple of my friends and it was one of the best outing I've had in a long time. We had a blast! The location is a little difficult to get to, but once you've been there, it's easy to remember. i was very impressed with the maintanence of the lawn, it's much better than Claremont and cost less. The roughs weren't even all the rough. The fairways are decent, some are forgiving, others are not. Overall, it's a great course for beginners who want to learn and practice golf without the pretentiousness of it all. read more

The golfing secret of the west side. $10 on the week days $12 on the weekends, lots of good 2 and 3 dollar beer options. This is THE place to go, period, if you want to just get outside, catch a buzz and perhaps a few pars. It usually plays very slow on the weekends, so it is good for beginners because you can take your time and they will get a chance to take 10 shots to get to the hole as long as they are moving. It is challenging for the experienced golfer as well, LOTS of trees, and lots of course management style holes. Not many opportunities to bomb it down the course recklessly, so having a good 5 wood or 3 wood shot is a huge benefit on the longer holes. Highly recommended for fun or serious fun. read more

Killarney West is a wonderful hidden getaway. The price can not be beat. The nine hole course had three dog legs, two par 5s, and a couple of holes that baffled by tactics. The condition of the course was excellent for $10, it was poor for the $25 level, so you judge. I rate it three stars because I am a fan, but I've seen better. Also for me it took $10 in gas to get there and back so I have to compare it to a $20 game. Don't let that persuade you from going, go, it's great fun. I will return! read more

This is without a doubt my favorite course! Given I am biased because it's the course that I learned on, but it just so relaxing. It's only $8 during the week for 9 and $9 for 9 on the weekends, so that's hard to beat. There's no one pressuring you to play because everyone is just out for some chill golf. One of the worst golf experiences I've ever had. I didn't expect much out of a 9 hole/$10 a round course to begin with, but it was a terrible experience from the moment we got there. They charged my wife a green fee, who is 7 months pregnant, to walk along side of me. They wouldn't even give me a good reason why. I can see if they were worried that she would play as well but come on, she can't even swing a club. Then we get up to the first green and half of the green is beat up with dirt patches everywhere. All in all, I paid $20 to play a course that is in terrible condition. I'll not be returning. There are plenty of other 9 hole courses that are in better shape and will let my wife walk along with me without changing extra. read more

Tried for 3 years to like this place, officially given up, rude service and very rude administration, condition of the course is disgraceful,dirt patches and in some cases puddles on the greens, unkept tee boxes and just generally overall poor conditions. If you are a beginning DO NOT golf here they will not accommodate the time you need to golf. We had a Tee Time at 10 am and by the time we were on the 2nd hole not only were we asked to hurry up we were asked to skip the next 2. The owner stated we were holding up the other teams who by the way started their Tee Time 15 min early! I would NEVER golf here again nor would I recommend this place to any of my friends. read more

I recommended this course to my neighbor. Last Saturday while golfing with his 11 uear old son, they were subjected to racist comments from other golfers. Instead of using physical force against these idiots, he brought the situation to management. They didnt do anything about it because they didnt want to lose their regulars. Cheap golf place, you get what you paid for ($10), don't expect good service or facility

I've played here many times over the years and it keeps getting worse. The greens are patchy with large dirt spots. The drainage is bad with big muddy areas on the fairways. A few months ago it was busy and getting backed up because the grounds keeper was mowing the fairways making people wait. He drove very close to us several times and it was weird because I thought he kept giving us dirty looks. A few days ago my wife and I played here for the last time. The same grounds keeper was outside the clubhouse. He had a beer in each hand (it was 10:30 am). He coughed hard and spat on the ground right in front of us. Then he made a nasty comment, like he was trying to be funny but he was drunk and rude. I'll never play at Killarney West again because golf is supposed to be fun not weird and hostile. There are other good courses nearby so no reason to deal with the rude staff at this dump. read more

If I wanted Pebble Beach, I would fly to California! Killarney West is the best value in golf I have ever found. The staff is friendly and down home not stuffy, the course is well groomed but not manicured, the fees are less than a burger at Red Robin. During the week there is always an open tee time. It has its challenges for the intermediate player, but is a wonderful practice course amd a great place to swing away and get some fresh air away from it all. Thumbs up Killarney West! read more
