I was very disappointed in the Kalua Pork taco (pork was lacking smokey taste, small portion and just bland)!!!

OMG this place is so good! The food wasn't anything crazy but somehow it was probably one of the most delicious things I ate on the big island. Hubby and I were here on our honeymoon, made a day trip to Kona and wanted something other than our daily loco mocos. We ordered the fish tacos and beef burrito. UGH. So good. So fresh. So flavorful. I had so-so experiences at Killer Taco's then one night after bringing home take-out where the order was WAY off I asked for reimbursement for our ruined meal the next time I was in. I was hoping for some sort of "So sorry, of course we will not charge you today." I was told, no, no and no. Then I mentioned to the manager about the young lady who grabbed a calculator then handled my tortilla directly after with her bare hands! I had to ask her to was her hands and get a new tortilla! This also didn't phase the manager. I asked for the ladies name I spoke with and mentioned I would probably be writing an online review. I was then suddenly offered a $10 gift certificate-which I found so patronizing! Now I don't even feel comfortable eating there with the cleanliness issue. read more

This review is for the fish tacos. They are made from Alaskan cod??? Huh, aren't we on hawaii? They take what looks like a big fish stick and slice it in half and put it into your taco. The only reason I'm giving b it 2 stars is because of the service I got, the lady was super nice. read more

OMG really?! I can't believe the reviews this place gets. And my guide book said best Mexican food on the island. I didn't trust anything else I read in that guide book or Yelp after eating at Killer Tacos. I had been saving my fish taco experience for Killer Tacos. I get there and it is basically a slow fast food restaurant. And the fish tacos are COD. In Hawaii?! Needless to say I passed on fish tacos and had a taco salad with beef. Fine if you compare it to Taco Bell. I have yet to find a real fish taco on this island. BUT, I did see a food truck today, Estrada ' s Surf and Turf. They are not listed on Yelp but good reviews on Trip Advisor. So, I think I will try it and if it's good try to get onto Yelp. read more

I came here after a long bike ride based on the recommendation of the guy at the shop. A good, filling burrito is always what I look for in these situations, and he suggested I come here. Overall, it was a good choice. I had a shortboard burrito with chicken and it was quite large and filling. Flavorwise, the chicken was very good. It was moist shredded chicken, which while tasty, is never as food to me as grilled chicken. A part of me wishes I had tried the ground beef, but overall the burrito was good and it hit the spot. read more

We went here based on previous reviews. Hmmmmm.... The food was horrible. We had the fish tacos and the Kalua pig burrito. Both were so awful that neither one of us finished our meals. The fish was an Alaskan Cod 'fish stick' and the pig tasted like it had sat and been reheated numerous times. Horrible waste of money. I'm giving 2 stars only because the girls were nice. read more

This is the kind of place I love to find on vacation - simple, quick, and cheap, so we can eat and then get back to the actual experiences we came halfway across the world for! Great, sizable burritos (white, wheat, or spinach) and uncomplicated tacos (chicken, spicy beef, or Kahlua pork) for about $6 per person, made quickly by friendly staff right in front of you. It took a bit of effort to find the place in an industrial park area, but it was well worth the excursion and we will definitely be going back. read more

This is essentially a not particularly cheap version of Chipotle with a few changes. The salsa was indeed nearly flavbourless as noted, and they do close early. There are no real tacos on the menu, and the food is only vaguely reminiscent of Mexican. That said, it fills a niche--cheaper than a nice place, quick, filling, and close to 3 major dive shops. We'll probably go there again, but only if we're in the neighbourhood and are hungry--it's definitely not a destination. read more

Great place, and inexpensive. Food on all the Hawaiian islands is generally bland, salty, fatty, and worst of all....damned expensive. In contrast, Killer Tacos serves very good food, lots of it, for a low price. Their meat and sauces are very good, the staff is friendly, and it's a very cool, very low-key place. When we fly in, we always get lunch at Killer Tacos, and then hit Costco on the way to our condo. We always get a condo because we eat much better (in Hawaii) cooking for ourselves, and we save a ton of money....because, again...the restaurants generally are expensive and not very good. Save your shekels on the Big Island for the great coffee and places like the fantastic Hamakua Macadamia Nut Company that is way north of Kona (I'm just about to post a great review for them...). read more

The name does not lie, these are indeed Killer Tacos. I thought they were fantastic - place looks a little funny walking in and I was kind of like "oh dear, what am I in for" but the meat and toppings all tasted really fresh and super flavorful. If you want a cheap, filling lunch, this is your place. The food is not earth shattering, but is fresh and you get lots of it. We ate lunch here before leaving for the airport via Uber. The service was outstanding. Two super friendly girls behind counter. My family had crunchy tacos. The shells were perfect. My wife and I had chicken and kaluha pork tacos. Botowere delicious. You have different levels of salsa to choose from. My son had the spicy beef taco. He scarfed it down quickly. Good, kind of cheap, but not particularly impressive. The pork is excellent, and deserves to be in a taco. The spicy ground beef is not spicy, the spicy salsa relies too much on the "biting" kind of spicy as opposed to the more flavorful spices you get at real Mexican / Latin restaurants. The taco salad is mediocre, bordering on downright dull and, according to the 3 people who had it with us, pretty eager to get out. At the end of the day, this is a good place for a quick bite that's fairly inexpensive ... but not on par with true taquerias. read more

Loved it. Our friend who lives here is friends with the owner. She took us there for lunch. My husband and our friend had the kalua pig burritos. I had the spicy ground beef salad. All were excellent. Too much food. My husband and I took 1/2 home. Such a deal. There is always a line but the service is fast. The prices are great. We will be coming back for more!!! read more

good, cheap, fast mexican food - we loved eating here, or taking it to go while we were visiting the Big Island. The burritos are HUGE and I loved the kalua pork. My daughter loved the tacos - crispy and not too spicy. My husband loved the fish tacos but wished the salsa was hotter so we bought some of his favorite kind at the supermarket and he just added it as needed. We just couldn't get enough of this place. Sure, its a tiny taco joint in a strip mall and parking was iffy, and there was no bathroom. But we didn't eat here for the ambiance. Just for the great food served fresh & fast, which was WAY better than any fast food in the area. We remember Killer Tacos fondly and can't wait to go back there for lunch. read more

Nice little hole in the wall. Came here for some burritos after craving burritos from home. They have really great fish burritos, and they are not crazy expensive like the other places mainly because of the type of fish they use. Their service is great as well, nice and friendly staff. read more
