If you like samples, Kilwins is the place to visit. I was offered samples of ice cream and fudge, but I passed on the fudge because it's one of the sweets I do not like. (Grainy, greasy chocolate-like substance? Hard pass.) Chocolate I do like: Peanut butter cups! But they need to be made with real chocolate (sorry, Reese's) and they need to be big, so that there's an almost equal proportion of peanut butter to chocolate. Milk chocolate peanut butter cups are great, but dark chocolate ones are even better. I got a huge dark chocolate peanut butter cup to take back with me to my hotel, which happened to be around the corner. It was so silky and smooth and just what I wanted. Kilwins is the place to find all kinds of chocolate treats, plus things like popcorn and peanut brittle, gourmet marshmallows, food gifts and lots more sweets. They also have a full ice cream parlor in the shop, where you can get ice cream by the scoop or made into a sundae or milkshake. This place has outdoor seating, so you can sit on the patio and enjoy your ice cream or chocolate while watching the people of Fort Wayne go by. read more

After a recent lunch stop, we decided to grab some dessert in the downtown area. This is one of the places I've never been to because I sort of saw it as a fudge store, however it's much more. The employees were super friendly as soon as we walked in and offered samples of the different ice cream. I settled on the three rivers ice cream, which was clearly one of the best ice cream flavors I've ever had. There was a perfect blend of cream and sugar in the ice cream. The waffle cones are also embossed with the company name and are made fresh. The waffle cone itself was also probably the best in the Fort Wayne area. It had the perfect taste And texture to the cone. The only reason why I could not give it five stars is it is quite pricey, but what isn't in this economy. If you're ever in this area and want dessert, this would be a place to try. read more

Lovely ice cream and sweet shop adjacent to The Bradley Hotel. Lots of flavors to choose from, but I had one of my favorites, cake batter. It was a very hot & humid day and it really hit the spot! The waffle cone was light and crunchy and complimented the flavor nicely. I didn't get a chance to pick up any of the candies, but it looked like they had a great selection. Another good visit to Kilwins. It is so exciting to see the Fort Wayne community venturing down town to try this place! This time around we used a gift from the Kilwins birthday club to get a free scoop of ice cream. My wife had the raspberry sorbet in a waffle bowl since she can not tolerate ice cream. She said the sorbet was very refreshing. The sorbet was mild and didn't have a tart taste - very nice. The waffle bowl was crisp and full of waffle style flavor. You can taste a hint of vanilla amongst the crispy waffle crust flavors. The waffle crust is a bit crispy so it takes a little bit of force to break the bowl. I had the Marsh-Mallow S'mores ice cream. It is also hand dipped but not hard in texture. The scoop had a smooth taste with a nice balance of chocolate and vanilla cream tastes. The marshmallow taste was not very prominent. Just a few notes. The store is small with limited seating. We were able to sit down and enjoy our desserts. Don't let that deter you. The seats turn quickly while you browse their tasty options! Also note that they are now charging for parking at the Perfection Bakery lot. Finally we have a Kilwin's in town! This is one of our preferred ice cream parlors which are quite common in large cities and tourist places. As expected, we had to wait in line for about 20 minutes as there was a big line when we came. We were offered fudge samples while we waited as well as many ice cream samplers to try any of the options they had. I knew my choice and my son did try different ones until he ended up with the brownie fudge. My favorite is strawberry chunk in waffle cone. They have a lot of variety besides ice cream: popcorn, marshmallows, fudges, caramel covered apples, and ice cream cake! If you need to use a restroom, they have one inside. I was warmly greeted by the nicest young lady, upon entry. She was genuinely kind and helpful, the older gentleman making the apples, was not as cordial. I didn't let his sour demeanor or lack of acknowledgment deter me, he obviously picks and chooses when to be pleasant and I walked in on a day he wasn't choosing ..... ! I was immediately smitten with the establishment. It's such a quaint vibe! There is lots to choose from, whatever your pleasure! Candy, ice cream, popcorn, candy apples, you name it and they have it! The kind clerk allowed me to taste many flavors. I settled on mint for my son, praline for his friend, and a turtle apple for myself. I could have gotten so much more, but on this first visit, I thought a little restraint was needed! I could have gotten chocolate wasted, easy!!! Went on a Sunday about 25' before they close. It was packed. As you open the door a sweet and welcoming smell of fresh made waffle cones slaps you in the nose enticing you in further they even have the wake making stations in full bite by the front door. A huge line was waiting for ice cream and checkout. Today the store was fully stocked with easter themed chocolates. It was a little overwhelming and right away I knew it was pricey due to lack of prices. Even the ice cream lacked a menu board. We bought a couple of chocolate lollipops and tasted the iced cream but neither of us ordered any. We didn't really care for it. The taste wasn't very creamy nor flavorful. It packed something that other locally owned ice cream shops have. Upon trying the chocolate we both felt it also lacked the same things. It was not creamy and didn't have a full bodied milk chocolate taste. I would have preferred a Hershey bar instead. It's a tourist spot that continues to be busy, which is wonderful, but I'll pass on this and frequent other local iced cream shops. They do have three outdoor tables you can enjoy your confectionary treat but good luck grabbing a chair. Even on a crisp March evening they were bursting with patrons. read more

Such a fun place to try, especially on a date. The ice cream is really good, and they have a lot of unique flavors. My favorite was toasted coconut with chocolate chips, but the mint chocolate chip was also great. In addition to some memorable ice cream, there is also an equally large chocolate assortment from tuttles to bon-bons and more. The chocolates look as good as they taste for sure. You can sit inside or outside, or take it to go and go for a walk around downtown. There is plenty of window shopping and even a small park nearby if you want to walk. Just be careful parking, there isn't many options nearby and the parking lot a block away is quite militant about issuing tickets. Next time I am in Ft Wayne, I'm definitely coming back read more

Went Kilwins after Nawa for dessert. What a wonderful place for a diabetic to die in. I got white chocolate macadamia nut tutrles and dark chocolate tuurtles. I also got carmel apples that look like they would put any carmel apple from Apple Festival to shame. Just a small ice cream place, only 2 tables. I can it getting crowded fast in the summer. The ice cream is awesome but the service is horrible. I went in to get an ice cream cup and no one was in there except for employees. The older guy helping people, and two other employees, felt it was more important to restock the store rather than helping me. I waited and waited for service. We came as a special treat. The smells of fresh baked waffle cones was amazing upon entry to the store. Came to the ice cream counter and was greeted by less than friendly employee who was rushing us to order despite store being sparsely populated. We ordered a waffle bowl and received very small scoop. I think the container was almost empty and she didn't want to get another. Totally not worth the $15 we spent. I wish I had taken a picture to show how pathetic it looked. The ice cream and waffle bowl was tasty, but I won't be back based on service and quantity. read more
