The amazing waffle cone smell coming out of this place lured me in, and I'm so glad it did! They had samples sitting out of their chocolate caramel apple, and those were very tasty! They also have a wide selection of chocolates and candy, which I didn't purchase but it was fun to look around. It was a very hot day so we ended up getting ice cream. I opted for the chocolate peanut butter, because it's rare to find this kind with the thick peanut butter swirls! It was so creamy and had the perfect flavor. I passed by this place en route to my Airbnb on Friday and knew I had to try it before I went home. I came relatively late yesterday and walked in behind a group of people. Thankfully they were all waiting to get ice cream, which left the chocolate station with no line. While there were so many treats to choose from, I got the white chocolate peanut butter ball, a piece of milk chocolate toffee, and a graham cracker with chocolate. All the pieces were truly delectable, but I'd easily say the milk chocolate toffee was my favorite. I don't know if it's because of how it was made, but it put the heath toffee bar to shame! It's hard to describe but just know it's worth trying! I regret not getting more. read more

Very popular store! The ice cream line is always full but worth the wait! Popped in last night with some friends after a nice show and dinner in the area, picked up some peanut butter fudge which is amazing! They have employees/bakers and makers, in the front window demonstrating how they make and cut their fudge, a nice touch! Looooove me some Kilwins! This place was jam packed mid day on a Friday and it was great to see it. Kilwins has a lot of sweet treats to offer - ice cream, chocolates, chocolate covered apples, fudges, popcorns, etc and bottled/canned beverages. There isn't much place (if any) to eat your sweet treat inside, however there's tables and seats outside. Myself and the group I was with opted for ice cream and my oh MYYYY it was delicious! Old school ice cream is my love language and this place is IT! The textures, the creaminess, the variety of flavors, ALL OF IT. You really can't go wrong with what you order so my advice. You can literally smell how good it is before you walk in. Lovely displays of goodies in a very clean setting. There are always lines. Me personally, I love this place. I'm very into fun, different and delicious desserts and this place has all of that. Specialized candy apples, home made fudge, waffle cones are home made and often still warm... ice cream. ... the only reason for the maybe... is the price tag.. not everybody has $10 or more for a scoop of ice cream. It's in a very expensive neighborhood:. And the price reflects their overhead. So go for, it you can afford $40 for 2 waffle cones and a small bag of fudge... it's all perspective. The staff is courteous and friendly but has been caught, by me, being short and giving customers the hurry the heck up look... but again... there are lines, you had plenty of time to decide so I get that too. read more

Really enjoyed hitting up Kilwins the other day I'm downtown St. Pete! There were a few ice cream options in the area, but I had heard some great things about Kilwins so we decided to give it a try. There were plenty of flavor options (it was hard to choose), and we both sampled a few different ones and they were all great! The chocolate peanut butter ice cream was creamy and delicious, and they were certainly generous with the peanut butter which is a huge bonus! The staff was friendly, the ambiance was nice and felt like a legit ice cream shop, and overall we really enjoyed! Will need to go back again when we're in the area. read more

Staff was more interested in discussing other staff members than helping me. I'm used to my fudge purchase being wrapped in tissue and placed in a box ( I am paying around $10!). St Pete's ice cream shop just off the pier is definitely worth a stop. Not only is there ice cream but all kinds of chocolate covered delights! Kilwins is a mom and pop confectionary shop that was founded in 1947 in Petoskey Michigan. Now the company operates 123 stores in 22 states. We have a bunch of them in South Florida where I live and I usually visit them for ice cream. They also sell fudge, candy apples, and other confections. I was wandering around downtown St. Petersburg on Valentines Day and was looking for chocolate covered strawberries. I had planned on going to another store but they closed early. Kilwin's to the rescue. Of course they had exactly what I wanted. You could have your strawberries in milk or dark chocolate. Two large juicy milk chocolate covered strawberries cost me $6. Not exactly inexpensive but they were high quality. Kilwin's has never let me down which is why I keep coming back to this chain again and again. read more

I am a St. Pete local. I love kilwins cake batter ice cream. However, this particular location on Beach Drive seems to be the only one where it's inconsistently available. After several visits and inquiries, I learned they rotate it with another flavor and store it in the back. There is an employee, who I believe may be a manager or in a leadership role (an African American male), and I've noticed he is often on his phone during my visits. This past weekend, he was the one to assist me once he finished up on his phone (with a line of 7 people waiting). When I asked for cake batter ice cream, he told me, "We're out." I mentioned that this has happened before, and usually, someone finds it in the back. He stood firm, saying they were out. Another employee, while helping a different customer, overheard and said, "We definitely have it. I'll help you when I'm done here." I waited, but then a third employee came over (young caucasian female). When I repeated my request for cake batter, I explained that the other staff member had said they would help me. She replied, "We don't have it right now." I clarified, asking, "Do you not have it out, or is it out of stock?" She admitted they had it, but they had replaced it with seasonal flavors and wouldn't bring it out. When I asked if I could get a scoop or a pint as they had done before, she refused. At $9 for a cone and a single scoop, plus ASKING for a tip, the customer service here is extremely disappointing. The employees at this location are by far the rudest I've encountered at any Kilwins. It seems to be a leadership issue. On a previous visit, I witnessed a young employee (in her early 20s) rudely belittling a colleague when he asked her to clean something. She laughed in his face and said, "I don't care about this place. I'm going to be a nurse soon." While I understand that no one is perfect, the staff at this location seem completely uninterested in the customers or their jobs. I live closer to the John's Pass location, where the service is always kind and respectful. In fact, across all the locations I've visited--Lakewood Ranch, John's Pass, St. Armands--the Beach Drive location in St. Pete is the only one where I've consistently had a bad experience. When getting a $9 ice cream cone or $20 pint becomes this much of a hassle, it's no longer worth going out of my way to visit. read more

They just shoved $40+ of tiny bites stuffed in a box randomly and I was with an anxious group trying to pay, but the company made it clear they were closing so we just paid and left only to find they shoved the lot with a gross and unorganized box filled with random stuff there are clearly trying to get rid of. We're decades long locals and we're never going back. We'll just leave them to them to the tourist because that's how they treated us. read more

3 stars. As someone who goes without eating two or three meals daily JUST to enjoy caramel apples & milk chocolate, this chain chocolatier did not measure up. I wanted it to, but it did not. The shoppe's aestetics & location are very nice, but the taste & quality of its products are not up to par...unless I'm in a chocolate pinch. I did not try the ice-cream. Instead, I bought a Sea Salt Chocolate Caramel Apple @ $8.99. Neither the Caramel nor the chocolate are rich in taste; neither come even close to that of Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory apples. The milk chocolates @ $33.99 lb are more expensive & again not rich (enough) in flavor or texture. I bought fudge (to bring home to freeze as I often do for future company); it was $10.99 per pound, yet on special @ buy two slabs & get one free. I didn't taste the fudge until I arrived home, which was my mistake. The fudge is OK, but not great. It is NOT sweet creamy chocolate. Also, LOOK @ THE PIC to see what returned home w/ me after the staffer placed my box of fudge vertically in a paper bag-- it's a mess & unpresentable to anyone but me. (It was NOT left in the heat; the chocolate variety was obviously too soft to be sold.) The young employee who waited on me was very friendly. I'll assume he's a rather new hire due to his treatment of my bagged fudge. The three star (average rating) does not reflect on him; regardless of the squished, messy fudge, had the chocolates (& caramel) been of high quality & taste, the star rating would have been a 4 or 5. Should you desire rich, delicious chocolates in St. Pete, head over to Schakolad on Central Ave. And I hear that Paciugo down the street has excellent Gelato. As the granddaughter of a 1901 culinary genius who perfected sugary confections over his 95 years on Earth, I'm simply unimpressed w/ this chocolatier. read more

I ordered a Strawberry and Chocolate Brownie milkshake, I am not disappointed. The strawberry ice cream has chunks of strawberries, and the chocolate brownie ice cream has pieces of chocolate in it. Then you mix the two and it taste like chocolate covered strawberries. Looking around they have taffy candy, tons of chocolate covered whatever. Lol. They have caramel popcorn. It all looks amazing. Is it awful that I dream frequently about Kilwin's? I love everything about their shop: the convenience of their location, the friendly staff, the delicious treats. I could go on forever. I am pretty boring when it comes to ice cream. I prefer a good chocolate ice cream in a waffle cone/bowl. Kilwin's does ice cream right. We have purchased their chocolates, truffles, and other various candies and have loved every single bite. I also love that they remained open during the current pandemic crisis by providing ice cream. People get stressed and we all know what "stressed" is backwards = DESSERTS. If your sign says you're open until 10pm, you should serve ice cream until 10pm. They cut us off when we walked in at 9:45 after leaving dinner early and walking a mile to get there before it closed. Some would call that false advertisement--change your hours to reflect reality! It's not the customers problem that your "minor employees" need to get off the clock. Rude, inconsiderate, and entitled employees need to go work at McDonalds instead. I wish I could give this overrated establishment ZERO stars. read more
