Kim Orthodontics strikes a rare balance between advanced technology and genuine, high-touch care, making the whole orthodontic experience efficient--and, dare I say, even enjoyable. The usual frustrations you might expect with medical offices--long waits, mysterious surprise charges, parking hassles, or difficulty scheduling--just aren't an issue here. The self-service scanning technology eliminated the need for frequent visits, as everything was handled online. Communication via their app and text was excellent. The staff is top-notch and the office clean, modern, and sleek. Our son needed his teeth straightened, and Dr. Kim and the entire team did an outstanding job. His treatment recently wrapped up, and we couldn't be more pleased with the results. Even better, since not all of his wisdom teeth have come in yet (though there's room for them), they've arranged for thoughtful post-treatment follow-up. My teeth weren't the worst but I had minor crowding at the lower & an overbite at the upper. When I would smile without showing teeth, my top right tooth would pop out just a tiny bit & I would notice it in photos that people took of me. I hated it! I honestly would have probably never thought of fixing it if it weren't for that insecurity but after a long 1.5 year journey, I'm really glad I did it. The price is hefty but with the amount of attention to detail & REALLY friendly & nice staff... it was well worth the price tag. Dr. Is amazing & always so happy to see everyone. Growing up I had very messed up teeth, and I was lacking self confidence with my smile. I never wanted to smile or be in any photos. Comprehensive Review - How I chose Kim Ortho and Pre/Post treatment reflections: Kim Ortho was my first consultation and I was nervous and expecting that my teeth were too difficult or the process would be too troublesome or costly, but Dr. Kim was very attentive and took time to explain every aspect. I have shopped around looking for Invisalign providers and my experience with other doctors were no where close to as comfortable and convenient. Other providers needed many in-person checkups, which would take way too much time. Kim Ortho uses an app to scan teeth once a week at home and it took 5 minutes, which is less time than it takes to find parking at Ala Moana during lunch break. With the app, there is constant feedback and attentive eyes ensuring things go smoothly. In choosing my doctor, I considered the cost, reviews, experience, and the doctor/staff attitude and bedside manner in the office. Post-treatment, I realize that technology is incredibly important, I cannot imagine going through treatment with monthly in-person checkups. The cost is competitive and have several available payment options; after going through the process, there have not been any additional fees even though I delayed the process a few times and needed some adjustments and additional work. Overall, I had finished earlier than expected, which tells me that the treatment time estimates likely accounts for some complications or delays. Reviews online are overwhelmingly positive and I am now adding to the list of 5 star reviews. Lots of reviews said the family and staff treat you part of the family, which is true, but better. After going through about a year and a half of treatment, I would choose Kim Ortho over my actual family for care. For technical experience, I found out that Dr. Kim was recognized by Invisalign directly as being a particularly distinguished top provider, something other doctors I compared with did not have. After my treatment, I can report that every step was calculated and nothing was surprising or challenging for Dr. Kim or the techs. After doing my first consultation in office, I could instantly tell the office has a light and upbeat environment. Everyone is kind, considerate, and often funny. I've gone into the office a handful of times during treatment to get detailed checkups and pick up new sets of aligners, I have never been kept waiting for my appointment. There are probably more factors that can be considered, but if you're on the fence about choosing Kim Ortho or another provider, I would say that the tie breaker should be the staff. You can tell a lot about your future treatment by how the staff treat you and each other. There's no award or measure for staff attitude, kindness, and happy overall work-environment, so do your own gut-check and go in for the consultation to take a look. When I had my initial consultation appointment with Dr Kim I was nervous because my case was complicated. I had a pretty bad under bite and crooked teeth. I always thought my only possible option was to undergo jaw surgery. I was lucky because Dr Kim informed me I would be able to correct my under bite with invisalign! I was beyond thrilled because not only would I save money but I would not have to get jaw surgery! My treatment with Dr Kim came to end after a three year invisalign journey. I have completed the full year of follow up of retainers, after the regular Invisalign process (which took me 1 year also). I was unable to see Dr. Kim for 18 months of the process because I moved to Washington, DC. I very rarely write reviews, but I have been so impressed with Kim Orthodontics that I felt compelled to write one. I am a physician myself and can honestly say that Dr. Gerald Kim and his entire staff have the best customer service I have ever encountered in any medical practice. It is truly out of this world. Dr. Kim and every staff member I have met (I think I've met them all) strike the perfect balance of competence, professionalism and friendliness. I researched literally every Invisalign provider on Oahu before choosing Kim Orthodontics. They use the best, most up-to-date technology for Invisalign. Yes, you might pay slightly more for Invisalign here than with other Oahu providers, but keep in mind that you get what you pay for. It costs a little bit more because you are getting better technology and a better provider, so you'll have better results. From my viewpoint, I'd rather spend just a little bit more to get the best result possible. You won't save any money by finding an inferior 'discount' provider that doesn't do the job right the first time, requiring more work in the future. I made that mistake with braces in the past, so Dr. Kim is fixing it with Invisalign now. There is a reason Kim Orthodontics is rated as one of the top Invisalign providers in the nation, not just on the island. Both the Ala Moana and Pearlridge offices are beautiful - very clean, upscale, modern, and well-connected with Wi-Fi and ipads for your use while you wait, although I've never had to wait past my appointment time. Normally, I hate being a patient for any kind of medical services, but I don't mind going to see Dr. Kim at all. Dr. Kim and his staff make you (and your family) feel very welcome as soon as you step in the door, and they honestly care about how you are doing. I'm not sure how he managed to assemble his amazing staff, but I would love to steal them for my own practice! I'm halfway through my Invisalign treatment so far and haven't had a single problem. They did make it clear from the beginning that they were always available should I encounter any issues, luckily I haven't had any. They all have a very gentle touch, so I've never had any pain or discomfort at all during a visit. Dr. Kim is very efficient, but somehow never rushes and always takes as much time as you need to answer questions. They also take obvious care to keep their equipment and facility extremely clean and sterile, which is very important to me. If you are on the fence, I highly suggest you at least go for a consultation. They have a monthly payment plan option if cost is an issue. They also have a fun rewards system that is great for kids (and adults) to keep them motivated to take care of their teeth while they have braces or Invisalign, which is not an easy thing to do. It's very difficult to provide the best, top-of-the-line medical care and the best customer service at the same time, but Kim Orthodontics has managed it. I can't say enough how impressed I've been. I'll actually miss going there once my treatment is complete. I know this sounds like an ad or something an employee from the office has written, but I can promise you I'm just a patient that is really, really impressed with the care I've received. I actually found Kim Orthodontics on yelp and I was glad I did! I met Dr. Gerald Kim in the beginning of December 2014 for a free consultation. Upon meeting him, I knew we would work well together. He has such an inviting personality that you can't help but like him on first meeting him. I asked him about Invisalign and he talked me through the whole process and payment options and I said let's do this! Got me all set up right away! The only downside is waiting for the trays to come in which takes 4-6 weeks. I was excited to start soon! Lol! For anyone looking to do Invisalign, I highly recommend adding in the Acceledent to your treatment plan...it's a small vibrating machine that is attached to a rubbery mouthpiece that you insert into your mouth and bite down gently. When you turn it on, it gently vibrates your roots so your teeth shifts faster. You use it everyday for 20min. The great thing about this is that it cuts your treatment time by almost half AND it alleviates some of the pressure you might be experiencing from your Invisalign! I had a choice between two orthodontists to see...one was Dr. Kim and the other one doesn't even matter because after I went in to meet Dr. Kim and his staff, I didn't want to see any other orthodontists. Dr. Kim always has a smile on his face when you see him :) he greets you with a hug and always asks you how you are. His staff is also the sweetest and coolest people ever! Everyone has smiles on their faces and always treats the patient and his/her family with respect. When I went in for my braces I was very nervous because from what I heard, braces suck and they did, but Dr. Kim and his staff always provided the best care and made sure I was comfortable with everything and explained the process of whatever they're doing. The process of putting on your braces is kind of a long one but it's well worth it because they provide you with your #1 smile! After I got my braces on, it was sore but Dr. Kim gave me a comfort food bag with some soft foods like cup noodle, pudding and other stuff. I doubt any other orthodontist place would do that; they are seriously the greatest! They also provide you with a point card so whenever you go to your appointment, they would put points on your card if your brushing/flossing is good, no wires broken and such. I on the other hand would always forget to bring my card so at the end of my brace face journey I only had a small amount of points lol. With the points you can redeem gifts online, like gift cards, games, and other epic stuff. I just recently got my braces off on August 5, 2014 and I am beyond happy with my results. I had them on for about a year and eight months and the time flew by pretty quick. When I got them off, Dr. Kim gave me a bottle of apple cider for my success on getting them off. We took a picture and it made me a little sad that my brace face journey was over even though I would complain a lot about wanting to get them off lol. That Dr is being trusted with a loved ones comfort and a result that'll follow then for a lifetime! We felt the trust, warmth and Dr confidence from our first visit. Dr. Kim was our first and last consultation. We had an expected cost range, and they were well with in a very fair range. When your loved ones are involved, cost is a factor, but... What we felt from the beginning, followed through the whole visit (and even after we paid in full years ago, and a year delay in the process to wait for my son's growth spurt to take place... Sometimes I read these reviews and I think, "Is this real, or are these happy patients friends or family?" I can tell you this with all honesty, Dr Gerald Kim (although both Dr Kims in this office are great!) was amazing. I came in there because I had a bad experience with another orthodontist, so I found Dr Kim on Google. I told him that all of the other doctors I've seen have told me that I cannot have braces without removing teeth first. I didn't want teeth removed to get braces, it's bad enough getting braces but getting teeth removed too? no thanks... Anyways, long story short, I told Dr Gerald Kim that I didn't want teeth pulled and that I didn't want to wear braces longer than a year and a half, if he can't do that then I'm not interested. Pretty bold huh? Well he did it... After accommodating me and my busy schedule, he took my really bad overbite and was able to pull my teeth back so that I could wear braces and have it corrected within a year and a half. He would see me every week and always be extra careful not to tighten it very much or to put too much pressure on my teeth. He was very accommodating and very friendly. He's not just a great doctor, but he's a great person. I never had a doctor that was so involved and cared so much about my well being than Dr Kim. And it wasn't just me he did this to, when I came into the office I noticed he would be like this to all of his patients. I saw that he had won Best Doctor of the Year in Honolulu 2010 and I definitely see why. I have recommended him to everyone and anyone considering braces. My co-worker is also a patient of his and she has said the same thing, he's wonderful. I don't know how he does it, but he knows and remember things about each patient "Hey Kenji, how was that trip you took last week?" Dr. Kim and his staff are truly nice people. I first saw Dr. Kim for my braces when I was 11 years old. Two years later I had an impeccable smile! Unfortunately, I did not wear my retainers so fast forward to 2011... I saw Dr. Kim again to get my braces done. After so many years, he still remembered me, my personality, and my hobbies as a child. That's how much he genuinely cares about his patients. About two weeks ago I recently got my braces off and my smile was just as beautiful! During the time I had my braces on Dr. Kim very patiently addressed all of my concerns. I was always worried about my front two teeth being too big so I had Dr. Kim make them smaller. There was a point where I still felt that it was too big, but Dr. Kim reassured me that they were already perfect size. I think he knew that I was still concerned about it because right after looking at my teeth he took the extra time to take pictures, upload them to the computer, and show me. I didn't even suggest or imply in anyway that Dr. Kim needed to do that. I felt that that was the highlight of all my visits. I was full of confidence after that! All in all, Dr. Kim is a wonderful orthodontist. You will not be dissappointed! I have already referred two of my friends here and they are just as satisfied. read more

Everyone is extremely friendly that I almost cried out when I left the office. Dr. Kim is the only one which was aware of my real problem and concerned about my suffering. He talked to me and checked my situation, carefully reviewed my X-ray, I was surprised that he explained to me gently that what I currently need, was not orthodontic - It's necessary to go visit a TMJ specialist. I've been suffered this for many years but I didn't realized how serious it was. When I felt upset, Dr. Kim gave me a hug. I can feel he is very special and professional, he treats patients with honorable integrity and sincerity. Dr. Kim's whole team is awesome. Ms. Cathy is the best orthodontic specialist in Hawaii.
