Dr. Tan should get a million stars! If I could give her them here I would. This review is long overdue.. Our teen son has had ongoing issues with OSA obstructive sleep apnea, Dr. Tan is very knowledgeable in OSA and we were so happy with her care throughout the process of expanding his palate and helping with his upper and lower jaw expansion. Our son doesn't love appointments to say the least and she and her staff were amazing with him! In Hawaii providers with the knowledge Dr. Tan has on OSA are extremely limited. I know she now shares space with Dr. Hsu who is very knowledgeable as well, so great to hear! We moved recently and our son transferred care in California and was able to get his braces off in California just yesterday. When thinking back to the big picture....We couldn't forget about Dr. Tan when we ended a big step of a long journey! I visited Oahu Orthodontics in 2021 with a permanent top retainer that had lost its adhesive and was poking me. The orthodontist worked with me to determine if this was still the best option, listening to my preferences. She re-glued it for a reasonable price. When it broke two more times within a month, she re-glued it each time at no additional charge. After the retainer failed a third time, I requested a VIVERA retainer. She handled this matter nicely and again at a VERY reasonable price. I was happy with the outcome. After three years, I called to request another one to be made and shipped to me. She was accommodating, nice, and professional. I wholeheartedly recommend her service and business for any Orthodontic needs. read more

UPDATE: Had my braces on in May 2015 and then removed 2 years and 5 months later in October 2017. I'm only updating my review now because I recently met with Dr. Tan (or actually with her assistant, Tiffany) about the retainers after 6 months of having my braces removed. I was a little overdue my expected treatment length (expected length was 19 months I believe), so that was about 10 months overdue!! Yikes. I know a major fact was because I haven't worn my rubberbands consistently. So... WEAR YOUR RUBBERBANDS when Dr. Tan tells you to! If you keep putting off things that you were told to do, you're just delaying your treatment and won't get your braces off any time soon. I guess I didn't care because I honestly liked having braces on. But now I get to see my new, beautiful smile! So straaaaaight. As for retainers, I wear them every night now, but it's crucial you wear it as long as you can during the first 6 months after your braces removal. I paid the entire ~$5500 myself, so I'd be damned if I mess that up and get crooked teeth again lol. I still wear my braces throughout the day just to be sure though. I went and got dental wax and it wasn't working, his orthodontist from LA suggested to try and push it back into place but that wasn't working and he said it was hurting him more so I started freaking out and went on yelp and found Dr. Tan I contacted Dr. Tans office on a Saturday night and she got back to me right away, and assured me that she could take care of it and got us in! For most of my childhood I wanted to be a dentist, so much so that today at 32 years of age, I have not had any cavities. I took great care of my teeth. My last dental visit was two years ago and the only reason I didn't keep up with my biannual visits was because I felt pressured consistently to get sealants on my molars. Did I need it? Probably not, but I every visit was a constant reminder that maybe I should get the operation done. Fast forward to today, and I took up a good friend's recommendation on Dr. Tan, and I couldn't be happier! I addressed my concerns from my previous dentist and she confirmed that I didn't need the sealant. Sure it's a great measure in future-proofing my molars, but not necessary right now. I made my first visit to Oahu Orthodontics and it was such a great experience! Once you enter, Kim greets you. Then, it wasn't too long till I got placed into a room to see Tiffany, who then took a few pictures and an X-ray of my teeth. After that, I got to meet Dr. Tan, she then explained my treatment and told me what my options were. They really work with you to make it affordable! The whole process took about an hour. I have a bad history with orthodontists and dentists back in Washington and was pleasantly surprised with Oahu Orthodontics. Not only was our hygienist so nice and outgoing, but the doctor was insanely helpful and kind to us. She explained everything in so much detail and listened to us. The office is located above Long's Drugs. Which can be extremely helpful if your child has to come here and you can get your groceries done at the same time. No crying baby or a rambunctious kid for you.. no sir. The office's waiting room has iPads for children or adults (ahem, me) to play while they wait. It's extremely clean and organized. There's also water bottles to quench your thirst. If its coffee that you fancy then you can always step into the Elite Endodontics office next door and get some. They have an understanding. I was recently there for the grand opening and got to see first hand all the new technology and equipment used in the office. Dr. Tan has all the newest and greatest in 3D imaging. She can get treatment started right away. The consultation room is spacious and offers a computer to show the patient how the treatment will be done. Been going to Dr. Tan for about 9 months now and it's been awesome! First time coming here and I was in awe. The office is so aesthetically pleasing. They provide IPads in the waiting room area to keep kids/adults occupied and they have movies playing on their TV if the IPads are not enough. I've actually gotten a consultation for braces from a different Orthodontist a few years back and didn't feel comfortable. Last year, I felt like I wanted to give it a try again and see another Orthodontist. Dr. Tan was recommended by my Dentist at Kaimuki Dental. Oahu Orthodontics is located in the same building as my dentist so I figure why not go check it out. The consultation was free so I figure, why not. Dr. Tan is very easy to talk to and I felt very comfortable with what her plans were for my teeth. I decided to go for it! I went for the clear braces on the top and metal braces on the bottom. Every month I go in and get to choose what color I want to change the bands on my bottom braces. I usually go with a holiday/special occasion that's happening that month. For example red and green for Christmas! Located in the building above Longs Drugs off of Waialae Ave. Plenty of parking. You all know that braces can be expensive, but don't worry, they offer a payment plan! I would definitely recommend Oahu Orthodontics if you are considering braces. read more

Lol so I called them to let them know. Kim was very understanding and kind! Once I entered, the staff were friendly as ever. I got assisted right away after presenting my I.D. to Kim. : ) Tiffany helped me. She's so sweet and gentle. For someone who hasn't visited the dentist in forever, she made me feel so comfortable and unashamed of the condition of my teeth. She had done an exam & an x-ray. My visit was to inquire about braces - & I was able to see a before and after of my teeth. It was amazing. She was so reassuring and always making sure I was comfortable in every aspect during my visit. Once Tiffany was done w the exam and X-rays, she had me sit in the exam room for Dr. Tan. Let me say: Dr. Tan is AMAZING! she's so informative, sweet, and gentle. I can't even put into words how safe and comfortable I felt here. My dentist visits and just everything to do w teeth in general were horrible. But, Dr. Tan puts your fears at ease. She told me what I needed to do before she could start the process of braces. She was NEVER pushy and she even wrote out the steps for me and referred me to a trusted dentist for cleaning and cavities filling. Kim printed out the monthly plan and payment options for the braces. And WOW. The prices are so affordable! 500 deposit fee. 227.14/month for 20 months. And this is without insurance. ALSO, she offers traditional braces or ceramic braces with no cost difference for you! Most places would charge extra for ceramic, but not Dr. Tan. Mind you, this was only for a consultation. (FREE OF CHARGE)!! But I was treated with such genuine hospitality and customer service, that I would recommend her to everyone and anyone! The prices are beyond affordable and they treat you with such care and make you feel so comfortable. I also admire the fact that they give you their own personal experience about dentists when they were younger, so it makes you feel less terrified of your own. Lol The staff, the atmosphere, & the place itself is definitely top notch! As a military member I had to travel frequently and I had a strict timeline as I was leaving island permanently sooner than expected. I don't feel welcome, warmth or receive any friendly demeanor from Dr. Tan which I find very weird. My child goes there but she never says one word to me which I find strange because I see her speak to some dads that go there. She even comes into the waiting area to speak to some. Talk about state of the art office! I walked in for my appointment with Dr. Tan and was quickly greeted by Laura, the receptionist. Because I was a brand spankin NEW patient, (no spanking included) I was expecting that long annoying form you have to fill out...boy was I pleasantly surprised. Instead, Laura, Dr. Tan's assistant, directed me to their waiting area where I was given an IPad instead of actual paper! Yes...you heard right...they have gone green in this office! Although the process on the IPad was the same questionnaire as it would be on paper, it felt like i filled it out a lot faster! (You can do this ahead of time by going to their website if you want) When I was done, i clicked on the submit button and just like that, they had my information. I waited about 5 minutes after filling out the electronic form before being called to see Dr. Tan. While waiting...you can watch a movie or something on the flat screen television OR do as I did and play on the IPad...(which had angry birds on it). At this point I was hoping they would take a while like at other offices... I wanted to pass the level on angry birds. Once taken to the examination room, I was seated on the chair which had a great view of the mountain tops in the horizon. She gave me a swanky pair of shades to help with the examination light and explained what was going to be done every step of the way. Once she was done, Dr Tan asked that I return for additional work. (Sweet! I get to play angry birds!) She made me feel comfortable, and explained everything I was to expect on my next visit to her cool state of the art office. Before leaving, I caught a glimpse of her credentials on the wall....talk about a very accomplished individual! Now, the Breakdown: *New Patient Registration- Easy, quick, paperless and you get to play with IPads while you wait to be called! I don't tend to get nervous much, hell, put me in front of a crowd and I could hold my own, but going to the dentist? Yipes! I moved to Oahu in Jan last year from Mountain View, yes, Google Headquarters - everything was hi-tech up in that B. Our offices, our grocery stores, our BART/Public transport - everything was awesome. Miss that. I was in a world of surprise when I walked into Oahu Orthodontics and saw that this office was decked out with the latest technology, even more so than any dental office I've ever been in! Why is technology important? By seeing that they were up n up on the technology, it made me feel as if they were in tune with all the latest and greatest advances in dentistry - you know what, my hunch was right. Dr. Tan asked me to fill out my medical history/new patient paperwork. I waited patiently for the paperwork but it turns out she was directing me to the iPad stations in the lobby! Woohoo for going green! I love it. When Dr. Tan called me in to the back I admitted to her that I was quite nervous/apprehensive. She said not to worry and explained that she was just taking a look and let me know what she saw. I loved that she was thorough in her explanations and took the time to explain what the short term and long term "situations" were. My Son needed his second set of braces because his first set was put in and removed by Dr. Gerald Kim. At the time, they were necessary in order to help his teeth erupt correctly. That was done about 2.5 years ago (I don't remember exactly) and we were advised that when he was 12, he would need a second set. Went to Dr. Gerald Kim for a second estimate and was told that we were extended a $1400 discount because my Son was a returning patient. It took us about 7 months in order to save the cash needed to pay for my Son's braces up front. When we called to schedule an appointment with Dr. Kim, we were told that the quote was no longer valid and that the price would increase by $300. so I called Oahu Orthodontics. We were able to get in for an appointment within a week. While explaining the situation Laura who runs the front office at Oahu Orthodontics, she was empathetic and patient. I'm SOOOO glad we found this place!!!! Dr. Tan was very detailed and really knows what she's doing! She explained the reason(s) why she preferred a conservative approach to pulling teeth. After learning of the reasons, I was concerned by the fact that Dr. Gerald Kim had never even offered that as an option for my Son. She was able to spare the pulling of 4 of my Son's teeth (which Dr. Kim said would be required). In addition to being genuinely concerned about sparing my Son's teeth she saved us nearly $1000. (based on clear braces). It boggles my mind that Dr. Kim says he extended us a $1400 discount yet we come to Oahu Orthodontics and my Son is able to get clear braces for nearly $1000 less! Anyway, thank goodness we explored our options. No upcharge for clear braces, conservative approach to pulling teeth, free Sonicare electronic toothbrush with each set of braces (those things are awesome!), genuine concern for our circumstances, fair pricing, professional staff, convenient location with easy parking, clean and cozy facility, easy-to-book appointments, I'm sold! Once again best service I've ever had in a dental office! I was greeted so very friendly from Laura when I walked through the door! Dr. Tan immediately sat me in one of the treatment chairs and got to working on my teeth and what would work best for me. I just needed to straighten my front teeth out, keep in mind I've never had any type of retainer or braces before. She explained what every piece of the braces is and what it does. She gave me a mirror so I could watch the entire process. In my mind I always imagined getting braces would be a 3 hour long process of pain.
