So, after my second visit with Kim...I'm a fan. I've been using the same colorist for the last few years, and while she was everything my heart desired, I'd long been craving some fun pops of color...then Kim popped up in my IG feed. My first appointment, after a very thorough consultation, I left with some gorgeous rainbow, fluorescent peek-a-boo's and a hidden halo of color. It was gorgeous; she nailed the fun hair I craved, and also steered me to a curl expert where I got some cute bangs, and lost most of the blonde highlights that framed my face. Eleven weeks later, I got in Kim's chair, and I still had some gorgeously faded pastel pops of color that remained. Kim created a bigger peek-a-boo of color (a half a head of blonde), re-dyed my fading color, and gave me baby-lights to help transition the 5 month's of grown out highlights. A gorgeous toner sealed the deal, and now I've got a crown of enviable fall hair filled with gray, slate, royal blue, teal, magenta, and an array of royal purples. I've been BOMBARDED with compliments...and I can honestly say, I HIGHLY recommend Kim. I've only seen Kim twice, but I know I found the one. I used to be the type who cuts her own hair or doesn't care where I go to get my hair done. I randomly saw Kim's page on Instagram, and thought I should try something different. After a few back and forth emails, my appointment was booked. Kim is very thorough on her consultation. I love Kim! I discovered her though a recommendation on the Nextdoor app when searching for a stylist who deals with Asian hair and coloring hair. My background: I've always gotten my hair cut in Chinatown salons with my mom. After moving to the South Bay, it became a real hassle to trek up to Oakland for haircuts. I've also been using box dye on my hair and was looking to move away from doing that since it damages my hair and grows out unevenly. Basically I was ready to invest a bit more in my hair! I've seen Kim a couple times so far. My first time was in August 2018 to do some balayage highlights in my hair and to get my hair trimmed. Kim was really proactive in trying to know my hair history. She asked for current pics of my hair before I came in, what types of hair treatments I've used before, what types of dyes, etc. Since this was my first time doing balayage, she explained what the process would be like and the expectations of how my previously dyed hair might react. During my first visit she explained to me the difference between balayage and ombre, the types of tools and products she was using on me, how she was cutting my hair to flatter face shape, and advice on hair maintenance to match my day-to-day routine. I left her salon with some caramel highlights and got so many compliments on my new hair! I just finished a second visit with Kim earlier this week (so this was ~3 months after my initial visit with her). This time we did a toning session and hair trim. We toned my hair to a more warm auburn color which Kim said flattered my skin tone more. I already scheduled my next visit for 3 months later for more toning and hair trim to maintain the health of my hair. I feel that Kim is very knowledgeable about hair and I trust her advice. She will tell you which tones/hair styles flatter your face. She will give you realistic expectations on what can be done with your because some things may take more than one salon visit. When she introduces products to you, she isn't pushy or upselling anything. I will typically grab new shampoo and conditioner during each visit because I want to support local small businesses. Then I'll research Kim's recommendations on other products and will buy on sale at Sephora, Ulta, etc. I learned that it's important to use heat protectant and wash hair less from Kim! I highly recommend going to Kim. I have been going to her since 2016. This year I let go of what products to put in my hair and did not pay attention to what I was buying. Originally she did a balayage highlight and I came in again this year to do the same thing but I used a color/toner conditioner from Uberliss via Amazon. I DO NOT recommend using these cheap drugstore products. I was using a dark purple toner from that brand and it made my hair turn green/blue. It also dried out my ends, and had breakage. It was not looking pretty. I came in knowing this would be a major color correction rather than what I normally come in for (balayage highlight, toner etc.) Instead of working against the problem that was going on in my hair, I really wanted a purple/pink tone color with what magic she could do for me. She did a very good job asking me every questions on the history of my hair, the process of what she can do, what my hair can manage and what I should be expecting. I trusted her and listened to her advice and let her do her magic. I was honestly blown away with the results. My hair was super soft, clean, no frizzes or anything. She bleached my hair with her mix of her style without making it further damage (olaplex). Even though the tone of the bleach was not even due to my result of using a fake product on amazon, and she did what she could to make it even. She used a DIY personal color she put together (violet/purple/pink) and the colored showed!! IF you ever feel like your hair is a mess from box color or even making the mistake of buying a product that made your hair turn a certain ugly color, DEFINITELY hit up Kim, she gave her 100% effort in fixing my hair and I feel a lot more confident in myself, thank you Kim! I also had a lot of comments from my friends on my instagram and I normally never get that but even my own friends (both guys & girls) said what she did they were blown away and thought the color I have is unique. I made an appointment with Kim on StyleSeat after finding her work on Instagram. She had a special promo for Brazilian blowout treatments for the month February ($175 for medium length hair). I finally decided to pull the trigger on getting one done in hopes that my frizzy hair becomes more tame. As soon as I got to the salon, she greeted me and introduced herself and she knew exactly who I was and what I was coming in for. She was very thorough in explaining the process of the treatment and how it works. She was very courteous in offering me water and the restroom before beginning the lengthy process. She gave me glasses to protect my eyes and a wet towel to protect my face from the fumes. She also set up a fan next to my chair which was also next to the door so that we can both have as much ventilation as possible. The process took about 2.5 hours from very beginning to the very ending. My hair has never felt so smooth and so soft! I save so much time styling my hair. Now I can brush my hair without worrying that static would just frizz it up into a dry mess. The treatment really enhanced the color of my hair. It looks brighter and way better with this Brazilian treatment. Kim was so sweet and down to earth. We spent the whole time chatting so the time flew by pretty quickly. Kim has been doing my hair since May'16 and I love her work! Before we had our first session she asked about my hair history; what I use in my hair, how I take care of it, and what my previous stylist did to my hair. During that session she took a good look at my hair and told me what's achievable and what is not. She was very honest with me. Kim did a haircut on me about 2 months ago, and I still love my hair. First of all, My hair is partially straight and partially frizzy, and I have thick hair with previous damages from chemicals. From my own experiences, I just know good hair cut is the very essential to my hair because then rest of my maintenance is easy. And I've been growing out my hair from earlobe length to shoulder length for 2 years while getting little hair trims every 6 months because my hair just doesn't grow fast enough. The hairstylist that I used to get my hair cuts from moved, and I tried one place in Santa Clara for little trim with minimal layer failed miserably, so had to get another quick trim in Vegas 2 month later while I was on my vacation. And that didn't even turn out good. I literally lost 3 inches of length the first time, and another inch the second time, but my hair still was jagged. Long story short, I found Kim and decided I would try her. At the initial consultation, she mentioned that she dry cuts, and she understood my frustration. I told her I wanted low maintenance hair cut because I don't style my hair often, and I usually am having my hair in ponytail or a bun. The whole hair cut took like a full hour. I really appreciated that because she made sure everything was up to my liking, and did pay attention to balancing layers and how my hair falls when I put them down. I walked out of her salon feeling excited about my hair. I had not been able to put my hair down for 6 months but I knew I now had the option. That sounds really bad but it's true. I actually didn't realize that it's been a couple of months since I've got the hair cut. But last night I realized that my hair length is near my shoulder blades, and it still looked really nice and clean. I will probably end up in her chair for baby lights (which she explained what it was) soon. I just really wish that I've known about Kim when I went blonde and stuffs lol I've already recommended her to couple of my friends for color and cuts and their hair also turned out to be really awesome too.
