I've been going here for a few years now, and I think it's the best haircut place in the South Bay. Ive lived in korea for a really long time, and most places in the Bay Area fell short of my expectations, but Banseok who is the owner and head (haha!) stylist, does a really fantastic job! He dry cuts and then washes and dries and puts in final touches. Also for those of you complaining about the Ban's mannerisms, i find him to be pleasant and professional. IMO when you go to a stylist, you're paying to get your hair done, not to chat endlessly. It took me about 5 different failed hair salon experiences until I finally stumbled upon Esharp and I've never looked elsewhere since. I was looking for a salon to go to when I first moved here from NYC 7 years ago. I'm very particular about my hair and need to visit every 5 weeks to maintain the same bob that I want. ESharp is run by one stylist so it's a fairly small place, but let me tell you, it's a very tightly run place. all the staff here are super nice, professional, consistent, and thorough. I've probably visited here more than 70+ times by now, and I have NEVER left this place unsatisfied. I always get compliments on my perfect bob. The owner/stylist is the best in town and is someone who has a lot of passion towards his profession, which I so respect! The only downside is that since it's a very small place (with A LOT of regular customers) it can be tough to make last minute appointments, but they've instituted an online booking system so I always just plan my next visit in advance. All in all, I'm super happy that I have such an amazing hair stylist that I can always go to in my neighborhood! read more

I got a hair cut here and I am so satisfied with the result. What I asked was a long hair cut with a see-through bang. The result was as good as Gangnam(Seoul, Korea) hair shop. Ban-Suk kindly taught me how to do my hair and gave me a free styling (wavy hair) after the cut. Plus, the shop was very clean and all staff wore masks. I strongly recommend this place. read more

This is the best place to get your hair done. I love the way he cuts my hair and styles it. He has a broken english but is very very kindd and funny. And the salon itself is nice. Good interior! When i first came in which was about a year ago, I went for a perm and they did a great job. Now as a teen girl I get very picky but he suggested a digital perm which looked great. Anyways, recently..I got my whole head highlighted and bleached and guess what? My hair does not feel or look damaged. Now how does a salon manage to perm, treat and beach your head in a spam of one year without killing it? They use some great stuff for their satisfying customers. What else can you ask for? They're pretty busy too so you know that its a good place. if you're in the area and looking for a place to fix up your hair, I definitely recommend this place. I love it. And he's super fast! Nice decor, clean and spacious. The hairdresser, like most people said, was not very good at communication or westerner-accustomed manner. I actually don't care about that and only want my hair done well. He did it pretty fast, but the result met my expectation. The assistant girl helped a lot. The "change" in the locker room part was really confusing. I think this place can easily get a 5-star by tweaking a little bit on their services - after all, we are not all Koreans. read more

Overpriced for the quality of service and lack of attention to detail. For $43 for a men's cut (similar to what I paid in Manhattan), I expect much more care put into my haircut. The service was extremely rushed (there was one guy simultaneously servicing 3 customers on a Friday afternoon, with 2 more waiting) and he did not cut my hair according to how we discussed. I specifically asked him to gradually fade my sides and not give me an undercut, and before I knew it, he took the clippers and cut high and (way too) close. Mind you, I told him in Korean, so there was nothing lost in translation. I was in and out in under 20 min and I had to fix my own hair at home because he left a section that was completely uneven in the back. AHHH I still love this place. Around a month ago I cut and got another digi perm, short enough to just barely cover my neck. And as expected, I received natural-looking curls that weren't too coiled. I've had many people ask me if my hair was naturally curly, since you know... Asians don't have curly hair (sigh). But at least I can fulfill that dream with Bansuk's skills :) My curls have unfurled a bit, unsurprisingly, but my friends comment that it just adds to the naturalness. Since my mom loves my hair too, she's been netting herself and her friends as customers. They're also happy with their hair. Again, the service is pricey, but each time Bansuk does my hair it looks almost exactly--perhaps better--than the photo/catalogue he references. Speaking of service, it's great. Recommended by a close friend of mine and decided to finally get my hair done! This is coming from a girl who dyes/bleaches her own hair. The salon is a small yet welcoming shop with their own video game (which is pretty cool to mess around with) The male head stylist can seem a bit intimidating at first but you definitely warm up to him once you see what a great job he's done with your hair! I went from an icey blonde to a subtle light ash blonde. At first the results showed hues of green/purple (which happens often with blonde hair) but after the first wash it started molding into the desired hair color. The color all around has become even and has adjusted to the different tones in my hair which I can't be happier about thank you!! I was really grateful that he took me in as a walk-in even though Yelp said "appointment only". My observations may not be a fair and consistent reflection of the business and the employees there. I want to give them the benefit that maybe somebody was in a bad mood or having a bad day..but still- this is my experience, the total package. 1. I"m Korean and I'm sensitive so the "noonchi" (7th sense/common sense) is a bit higher. When I came in, the assistant who could be my mom was hesitating to accept me as a walk in (completely understand) but i sensed the way she asked Ban, perhaps wasn't his preference. 2. Ban is extremely quiet. If you like that, that's great. If you don't, it's awkward and uncomfortable. It just kills a lot of the experience when the owner "looks" unhappy to have a customer there. I don't think they have to be fake but at least be welcoming, show some teeth, don't look depressed and as if life sucks. He didn't seem interested in my needs. 3. His interaction with his assistant didn't sit right with me. If anything his assistant was what kept me feeling welcomed and comfortable. She smiled and was at least making an effort to appreciate the business I was bringing them. The way he spoke to her or did gestures to her wasn't discreet and it was obvious there was tension. 4. Ban is talented. I'll give him that hands down. I felt great about the hair and how he he cut it (although there's this slight mistake in the back but I'm okay with it). For $50. It's on the high end for me but the quality was acceptable for the price. The experience however..was equivalent to a $10.00 barber shop IMO. I"m sure some barber shops provide a much better environment than this. Would I go back? If I had money to blow and didn't give a rat's tail about environment & experience. Suuure. I really think he's skilled in his occupation...unfortunately that doesn't always win customer's business. A customer should feel better when they leave the building--that didn't happen. I wanted to like this place. I really did. I have been here twice, once for a haircut only and once for highlights and a trim. The first haircut left me in complete amazement. I haven't felt that good about my hair in years. Of course I was going back the next time I needed my hair done. Anyway, the weather starts to warm up and I decide that I want to go lighter with my hair. I decide to get some highlights with my haircut. I call to make an appointment and they tell me that the price is $120 for highlights and $50 for haircut. Whatever's clever. I get there and they're super busy. Obviously overbooked. They have 2 perms going, me waiting, another perm waiting and a guy waiting. They take me and ask what color I want, then go back to mix. It goes on my hair and the waiting begins. After about 40 mins, they rinse me out and take me back to the chair for my cut. At this point, I'm looking in the mirror going "Where are my highlights?". The woman says "its lighter when its dry". After my blow dry, Im still looking in the mirror going "where are my highlights?". After my hair cut, I am told "its lighter outside". Whatever. I'm already kind of upset that they didnt do the color that I wanted, but now theyre just jerking me along. I tell them that I wanted it lighter and all they said was "it will look too messy". REALLY?? You couldnt tell me that BEFORE you put dye in my hair? Not to mention that they didnt bleach the highlights first, they just weaved brown dye through my hair. Now for the straw that broke the horses back (my grandma says that all the time, and I finally have an appropriate story to add that to), when I went to pay, I was told that my highlights were supposed to be $180 and the haircut $50, but they were giving me a discount so it was only $120 and $50. At this point, I'm just irritated with the whole situation. I'm not sure if they were purposely TRYING to rip me off, or if they just happened to give me the "discounted" rate on the phone, but I wanted to get out of there. I paid them and even gave a $30 tip, even though I was definitely not happy. Will I go back? Probably not. Even though I am in love with the way my hair gets cut, I just cant make myself go somewhere that made me this unhappy. If you are coming here for a digital perm, I'd encourage you to go for it. It was my first time visiting my stylist baksuk lee at this salon just this past Friday and I am so glad he works here because I LOVE IT. The salon is beautiful, modern, and unique. Everyone there seems to be super friendly, knowledgeable, stylish, and accommodating. Baksuk is awesome. I've trusted him since the very first time he did my hair (almost five years ago) and he has never failed to deliver my expectations. HE'S SERIOUSLY THE BESSSSST AT CUTS, COLOR, STYLING... EVERYTHING! She perfected every random hair trend that I've gone through (and I've gone through... a lot!). My most recent visit was to finally ombre my hair... and Baksuk has perfected another. "we have two designers here, different schedule!" lady was never with a smile, excuse me, i came here not to get insulted. "no one told me during the phone call" , i replied, --then she asked me to go back to where i was and waited again (so the whole point for asking me to go to wash station is to interrogate me?) at this point I was already pissed. it seems like if you don't speak the language then you will be treated as outsider. Very strange, and awkward experience here. It's a shame that the place looks so nice and modern, but the customer service is horrible. The stylist, and customer service representative both act like it would kill them to smile...or even acknowledge our presence. I scheduled an appointment which went fine, the place was dead so we didn't have to wait. As soon as we got there we were greeted with a dead frown. My sister was bustled into their locker rooms to change meanwhile I stood there awkwardly not knowing what to do because they didn't look at us, or acknowledge us just shuffled her along. When they sat her down the stylist immediately went at her hair, without asking us why we were even in there and what we wanted. I had to intervene and explain. The stylist, Ban? Didn't even acknowledge what I said he just looked at the picture and then started cutting. Awkwardly I went back to my seat, and gave my sister a nervous smile like, 'eh I tried your fate has been determined'...I watched for the next 15 minutes as the stylist started cutting her hair as if he was such a big shot. He did some twirling with the scissors, and did some crazy snips. I feel like he had a lot of pride and a huge ego knowing that someone was watching. What I really disliked was the fact that he didn't give anyone a chance to see the final product, immediately after cutting he began curling her hair and styling it. We were like, uh...I feel like he may have messed up and curled it as a way to hide the mistake. At this time, I was pretty upset because of how inconsiderate the service was. Once he finished cutting and styling he put down his scissors and tools, gave her a mirror and then after we said thank you he walked right into the locker rooms, grabbed his bag and left the building. Not saying a single word the entire time. For a second there we stood there awkwardly like....uh now what? Why the hell did he just leave? I found the customer service lady and as I was paying I noticed the stylist standing outside pretending to look busy. At this point I feel like I understood the problem, perhaps he was shy or a bit anti social. Anyways, the experience was very weird. However, her hair looked beautiful. Despite not knowing how the cut was, he made her confidence boost by the awesome style job. Once her hair was washed, we finally got a good look at her hair and it was perfect. The layers were done just right, the length was just right and it seems like he fulfilled our request 100% despite the lack of communication. The negative review is based on our experience, but when it comes to his expertise I believe he does a good job styling and cutting hair. If you're in need of an "Asian haircut", you're in luck. Ban is the only guy I trust with my hair. Most other Korean salons around the area are run by ladies in their mid-40s who have no clue with regards to recent trends in men's hairstyling, unless you're content with a bowl cut. Also, going to traditional "supercuts" style men's barbers as an asian is pretty much guaranteed to result in really, really, short hair that are usually the result of them not knowing what to do with Asian hair. The only option other than that is to go to an expensive salon in SF, but really? Pay $50 to get a 20-minute haircut? Ban can come off as shy, cynical, or just downright silent. Sometimes he shoves the razor a little too hair against your head (that could use improving). But at the end of the cut, my hair looks good. At $30 + tip? It's a steal. Asian men, do yourself a favor and get cut by Ban. read more

Stylist is very professional, and does not try to chat you up too much. I simply wanted my split-ends cut away, and asked him to make it look good. He did! My hair is naturally very wavy, to a point that may be less common among other Korean women. What Ban did, I think, was cut my hair at the curls so that my hair would naturally curl up without me having to do too much in the morning. Also, Ban is the only stylist I've met who has not tried to get me into straightening my hair. I appreciate the fact that he takes my hair and makes it pretty without telling me I will have to put strong chemicals on them to straighten them. The only negative would be that it is pricey, $50 for my cut. Oh, but he does blow-dry your hair after the cut, so you'll look amazing that day. I moved to Santa Clara from LA couple of weeks ago for job. And I've been going to Etude in LA for almost a year. Once I came up to SC, I couldn't afford to spend + 5hour driving back just to get the hair cut, so under people's recommendation, I tried E Sharp...and It was horrible. I made a reservation at 1, so when I walked in, I was expecting to talk to the hair designer and talk about how I would like to get my hair done and hear his opinion. Nope. right when I walked in, this old scary lady, with no smile or greeting, took me back to the shop and washed my hair. I tried telling her I wanted to talk to the designer, but she insisted that I get the hair wet before... Then I sat down, and the hair designer, asked "So how would you like it?" with out any introduction, or nothing, dull face, staring with no soul. So I tried telling him " I been getting my hair done back in LA, and was hoping to get it shortened without exploring some new hair style....But since my hair is wet, I guess there is no way you will see my previous hair" (With smile...). Then He grabbed a hair scissor and start "Munching" on the hair. Man...It's been a while since my hair was cut like a bowl of noodle. just grab, "munch munch" grab munch munch" The whole time, I don't know if He liked his job or not interested, He just looked unmotivated and uninspired. To me that doesn't seem professional. And for a $30.00 hair cut, I expect more from that place. Anyway, To be honest, He (Hair Designer) needs to train his employes to be friendlier and Him self to be respectful of his customers. Ban always amazed me with his skill. My last experience here was roughly 7 months ago. I visited here again today just because I need a hair cut (imagine 7-month hair growing...). If you are a first timer, don't get confused when they asked you to change! Basically just put your personal belongings to the locker (and you will have the keys with you), and put on the dressing cape, and you are done! Staff were friendly but don't be too overwhelm if you didn't see a smile on their face -- I guess they are all more serious in this building? JK. I don't really care if they are putting smiles or not, they are not rude after all. Sure you will have some advantage if you understands Korean. Sadly, I don't, either. I was trying to figure out what they were talking about but I just gave up. Unlike other stylists, he is not very talkative, and that's a BIG PLUS for me because I don't like to talk when I go to hair salons... I run out of topics all the time and sometimes I just wanna get this done. No need to know too much details about the stylists' friends or what so ever, this is not a nail salon. (Even if it is... I still prefer no talking.) Ban was very careful when it comes to trimming... I love the result :) He did iron curling by using flat iron on my hair... Magic! I just got the Volume Magic Perm. I'm very happy with the result. The hairstylist gave me a great haircut and the perm. My friends gave me compliments about my new hairstyle. The hairstylist barely spoke to me, I'm fine with that, I don't need a talkative hairstylist, what I need is the good hairstylist. Btw, his assistant speaks english very fluently , she is a helper and a interpreter as well, so I have no problem communicate with the Hairstylist. 2 thumbs up for this salon. The stylist is an artist. I first went to him in 2012 with my Korean friend. I did straightening and cut. Fabulous. I returned for color and it was ok. If you have the dark hair ( Indian) I recommend cut. For color you will have to give him specific instructions because color is very hard on dark hair as well as hair that is treated with Henna. The thing that took 1 extra star off was that the guy hairstylist DROPPED the comb while working on my hair, picked it up from the FLOOR, sighed, and went back to combing my hair with the DIRTY COMB...Ick. It was exactly what most yelpers said: no communication at all except if you're Korean. The girl assistant that I spoke to on the phone seemed to be able to speak fluent English. Yet when I got there, I sat for ~15min w/o knowing what's going on (but she sure chatted up real nice with my Korean boyfriend...). My stylist back in SC ruined my hair by leaving the chemicals on too long for a magic. I've done the blow out, done the treatments, you name it, I've tried it. I've tried to convince every stylist that I met to just chop all the burned parts off. I am very thankful they never listened to me, and talked me down from chopping my hair off. I went to E Sharp Hair after my friend telling me about her friend's brother: the stylist. I went in with zero expectations, since several hair stylists declined to even cut my hair... As soon as I walked in, the older lady washed my hair. I wanted him to see how badly damaged my hair was, prior to washing it, but I followed her like a good Korean girl would. Then I sat on the chair. He asked what I wanted. I told him about my damaged hair. He of course told me to just grow it out. There isn't a lot that can be done. So I had zero confidence in him. Psh. So what if he was in Korea and styled for famous people. SNIP SNIP SNIP, adjust my head, SNIP SNIP SNIP. Blow dry Flat iron Styling chemical. BAM! My whole world changed. Yes, he did chop off A LOT of my hair, and it looked great. It was so much better than before. Everyone at work liked my haircut, and I did too. BUT the best part of getting my hair cut, was that it kept looking better and better as it grew out. I mean obviously, I am due for another cut soon, but it's not terrible looking at all! It was a short bop when I went to see him, and now it's right above my shoulders, and yet when I do blow dry and flat iron my hair, it looks like I had gotten a cut only few days ago. There were some miscommunications between him and the older lady, where he didn't want to deal with confrontation so he asked his assistant to talk to her. Ban is the samauri to hair styling. Seriously he is very fast and extremely good at what he does. Both me and my wife are extremely happy. As a stylist, ban is a great stylist. I've never had an experience of not getting what I wanted despite not giving him a reference photo and being vague. He's quiet and tbh,I prefer it that way. I don't like stylists who force conversations and then it gets awkward. That happens sometimes when his younger assistant is there. The price for San Jose and for his skill, I think makes sense. The thing I don't like about this place is the tension with him and his older assistant. Almost every time I go, I either hear him scolding and being mean to the assistant or there's just an awkward tension. I feel like instead of teaching her, he really gets frustrated and just turns out to be flat mean. read more

I got my haircut and color here a few months back. When I called for an appointment I asked how much it would cost. Based on what they told me, I was expecting it would cost $100~$120 for both cut and coloring. I ended up paying nearly $200 including tip for just a decent haircut and color. It was nothing special and definitely not worth $200. I used to get the same type of haircut and color at Kang Ok Ran for $90. Overall, I didn't think it was worth the price tag. I also didn't have a good experience with the staff -- mainly the male stylist / owner who smelled of cigarettes while he was working on my hair. He was also condescending and gave an attitude to his assistant; it made me feel uncomfortable being there. I wouldn't go back. read more

Overall it is really good with the hair treatment botox ( i don't really know how exactly it spelled) my hair get softer and not as damaged as it was. A lot of customer but only 1 stylist and 2 assistant, which everything seems too rush for them. When I was hving the treatment, the heater for the hair was too hot and too close to my hair that my ear got a big blister and was infected when i got home. I would recommend that they should provide a ear protecter for customers to avoid this situation again. And I hope it wont happen on me again as well. read more
