Dr. Hillman is the best as are the vet techs and the front desk staff. I. have a very reactive Shetland Sheepdog and he does very well there. Dr. Hillman will educate you on pet care, training of your pet and the entire staff is very patient, accommodating and shows great compassion toward you and your dog. Recently, we were seen by Dr.Rivas and his passion was conveyed throughout our appointment - down to playing comfort music when he walked in. We love Dr. Rivas and the entire team at Kimball Animal Hospital. Over the years they have provided excellent, thorough, and very compassionate care for our four dogs. Dr. Rivas and the Kimball team have been there for us in the happiest of times (introducing a new pup!) and in the saddest of times. When one of our dogs was diagnosed with a sudden, terminal cancer, Dr. Rivas was incredibly patient and kind, explaining over and over again what was happening, answering our many questions, reviewing treatment options, and providing guidance when it was time to make the most humane yet heartbreaking decision. We are always greeted and welcomed very warmly when we arrive for appointments. I particularly like that we never wait long in the waiting area with other animals; the staff is sensitive to move you and your pet into an exam room quickly in order to keep stress levels as low as possible. We are so happy to have found Kimball Animal Hospital! We were frustrated with our current vet so we took one dog to another vet, and the other to Kimball. Kimball was by far the best out of the three! They are reasonably priced, always point out that you, as the dog owner, have choices in treatments, medications, etc. We weren't made to feel like bad "parents" if we opted for choosing a less aggressive path. The staff is terrific, always friendly and helpful (even when I ask dumb questions lol), and the visit was on time with no long waits! Dr. Witherell is a very knowledgeable vet and really good with our dogs. To sum it up, the whole place made us feel like like they were all there because they are animal lovers first and foremost, and that they love what they do. read more

Very bad experience with my Yorkie , getting her nails cut,, the tech. did a very poor job and her nails were left ragged..getting caught in her blanket, and bed. Worst of all jumping off my lap and cutting the top of my hand very badly I called back explained the problem and I was told I would need to pay again $25.00..I made a appt. to show my cut hand and explain I didn't think I should pay to correct, the techs poor grooming First Mgr. said it always happen, it's normal,( asked to see Dr Rivas,) saw a second non caring higher up mgr, pretty much saying the same thing, however she would not charge me...No saying I'm sorry this happened to Frankie and to your hand. "It's just old age" is what you will get here on ANY non-standard diagnosis. They will not dig for you, they will not refer you somewhere else, and they will not be creative with treatment. They want you in, they get paid, and they get you out. I will share my story and will be 100% fair and honest with the facts about what happened. There is no emotion in this review hence why I waited to write it. I got off to a rocky start years back with them. Their front desk staff who are actually very nice never could get my reminders for vaccines and appointments right. We would either get wrong ones, none at all, or duplicates. It was a mess. I eventually just tracked it all myself. Not a huge issue, whatever. Probably just a computer thing. I have no issues with their front desk staff. They were always kind to me. I had to bring my dog in as he started experiencing a limp in his front paw. We literally brought this up INSTANTLY when we saw it very early on. We had 3 dogs and know them well. It was basically written off as no concern. Two trips to the vet after that for the same thing I believe resulted in "it is just old age", followed by "it might be arthritis". I literally offered to do any tests, spend whatever money is needed, etc. We did radiographs, and other tests. So we did not lack on that piece. and they surely took that money for wasted treatments, and whatever else they did. Finally after just knowing deep down that my otherwise extremely healthy dog who was only about 40 lbs. and 10 years old (not like he was 17) was in pain we decided to contact a vet who cared, Deporre. They immediately took notice and recommended real tests and treatments. Something just did not smell right to them. Looking back at the X-rays and all the data from Kimball THEY could see what was going on. It was bone cancer. And at this stage we were months late because of Kimball. Now dont get me wrong. I will admit this was not an "obvious" diagnosis by any means. However, any vet who took the time to care and not blow it off could have found it easily with some digging. I know because I asked a few vets. That is what they told me. Obviously I was livid upset. I still remained polite and contacted the office manager. I will keep her name private to the public as I do not intend to share that but for Kimballs purpose to know my other reason for writing this, her name starts with a K. I simply requested that my last visit (THE THIRD ONE) be partially refunded for the fee that involves the "consultation" because not only did we get no value from it, it actually made things worse because it wasted more time. Literally her emails back to me are what made me write this review. Instead of offering to help further, work with my other vet, make things right, have empathy, etc. She basically emailed me back in a combative and defensive tone. Like her only care was to prove how Kimball did nothing wrong. She would not offer anything, and she did nothing. I basically got blown off again. I know in my heart Dr Revis over there is a good person. He would have probably handled this much differently. I doubt he even knew about these details. Bottom line is this. A vet needs to care deeply. They need to be creative and not always blame the obvious culprit or old age. They need to be more like Deporre. My little man passed away in heaven in those coming weeks. Really disappointed , I'm new to the area and was hoping to find a place to develop a relationship with and see how I can improve my dog but I got about less than 5 min of the vets time and am out over $350. I could've personally gone to a petco pop up clinic and got about the same amount of service for way less . I had a concern that my dog isn't doing well with grooming and even wanted to discuss maybe trainers, meds, or programs they may recommend but at first they didn't even discuss the topic after I mentioned it serval times until finally they told me I could leave and I brought up my concern again. I was just given a bottle of pills with no information other than to give 1 pill. It makes sense why the last good review was over a year ago. read more

Clean, professional, friendly staff, same day new client appointments available. From paper work to paying I was at the office with my dog for 1 hour. Vet did a new patient wellness check-up, updated a few shots, and expressed her anal glands. The prices were a bit more than I expected, my other vet doesn't charge $50 to see the vet when giving vaccinations. It felt like they tried to up sell me on dog flu shots, no other vet has recommended before. Will return for the anal gland expression, but probably not for shots and pill renewal. read more

I called when you opened this morning asking if you could see my dog as he is having an allergic reaction and his throat was swelling... YOU MADE ME MAKE A FREAKING APPOINTMENT! So at our appointment time, after my dog and entire family had been up all night dealing with his allergic reaction, my husband brought him in and the vet refused to acknowledge it was an allergic reaction, pushed $768 worth of unnecessary testing on him (and your payment plan), then decided to treat it with a $100 medication for a SKIN CONDITION as opposed to the allergic reaction we told you he was having. $177 dollars later, we are home. My dog is STILL swelling and itching and crying, AND now I get to take him to a different vet. What they tried to sell us on instead of treating my dogs reaction, you ask? Here is the run-down: - exam $55 - nail trim $20 - Xray $150 - OSHA fee (??????) $3.50 - Bloodwork $136 - meds $102 - Omega supplements $55 - nexgard (flea prevention?) $125-225 - probiotics $36 - low fat canine something $2.99 Grand total: $686-$786 Can you imagine if a human walked into their doctor with an allergic reaction and the doctor tried to sell them supplements and probiotics instead of treating them? Overcharged for under service! I went to see Dr. Kimball for decades and trusted him with all our family pets but this place has gone down hill since he sold the practice. Not only are their prices astronomical compared to any other veterinarian in the area, but the lack of experience with the staff with animals is extremely disappointing. I was desperate for boarding a while back and decided to use them as the prices seemed fairly competitive. Imagine my shock when I came back from my vacation a day early to find that my dog had been locked up inside a kennel all day the whole time I was gone. Let out once, perhaps twice a day to use the bathroom. I will never ever return here - which sucks, because they are by far the closest vet and we had a long standing history with them. We were new to the area about four months ago, and were so lucky to have gotten in to see Dr. Watson at Kimball Animal Hospital. Dr. Watson has been absolutely amazing from the start. He diagnosed our large senior dog with lymphoma, and has been so so helpful with helping us think through treatment options, getting us recommendations and then helping us get oncology appointments with specialists, and answering all of our many many questions. This morning we went in to Dr. Watson because our senior dog baby suddenly lost the ability to use her hind legs and he was again thorough, helpful, and incredibly generous with his time. His treatment has made us so much calmer in very scary and sad times for us and our beloved dog. read more

Will not be going here any longer. It takes way too long to get an appointment here when your animal needs to be seen when they are sick. NO I CANNOT WAIT A WEEK AND A HALF when my animal is having symptoms. They are not flexible whatsoever. I told them I was going out of town in three days and my dog was acting sick and they said they didn't have anything until the following week (when it's only Monday of this week). Then they proceeded to tell me that they suggest I go to a new vet since they don't have any openings. I have taken my cat to Kimball for several years now; he will soon be 8 years old. When he experienced an injury but they couldn't get him in right away, I took him to a former vet I had used with great satisfaction. It was not a good experience at all, and I ended up bringing him back to Kimball where he has been given correct and appropriate treatment that set him on the path to full healing. Communicative, sensitive, experienced vets and techs, great staff, and I felt really confident my pet was getting the great care he needed for his injury without being upsold. We just moved to town. So it's a big deal to switch from Patterson. I was a bit nervous because the reviews were so dated. I was able to have an appointment for both the kitty and dogo back to back. It was definitely a time saver. I had to personally reschedule once and then was about ten minutes late to my appointment. Not a single problem with these two things. The building is expanding and the computer system is upgrading. The ladies at the counter seemed quite happy and the tech was full of information. We talked about different treatment plans, which was great because some of the stuff in one plan was already all inclusive in another. The dog has white coat syndrome, and each individual took time just to love on her and be happy with her. It was a bit reliving. Cost wise, I'd pick up your flea meds elsewhere but everything else balanced out to what I state as a fair price. We prepaid for the later half of our shots so that when the time comes we can just show up. We do plan on returning. read more

I've been going to Kimball Animal Hospital for years and when Dr. Kimball sold the practice, I was pleased when Dr. Jason Rivas took over the business. I had met him when he substituted a few times for Dr. Kimball. Well, he sincerely cares for his patients. My dog had mammary cancer and needed chemo and three different operations to remove tumors as new ones grew. The chemo I drove an hour to Canton, MI but as she needed the operations, I asked Dr. Rivas to do it. That was back in Jan. 2017 and it is now June 2019 and my cancer doctor said she is a walking miracle. My dog is old now and get regular checkups at both clinics, but she beat cancer. Dr. Rivas wanted a better facility to treat his patience, so he took out a loan to have a side entrance so sick dogs won't contaminate healthy dogs, setup a seperate x-ray room from the operating room so one function no longer interferes with the other. He hired profession certified staff and created a team of support staff, who all seem pleased to help when you bring your pet in. He has improved the hospital to make it safer for your pets. That does cost money, but so has my own medical costs gone up. The one improvement I could recommend is to find a way to take in the unexpected small emergency during working hours. I too have been turned away. When our pets hurt, we want someone we can trust take care of them. read more

To start, they were able to obtain her past records from her vet in Canada, which helped make this transition process smoother for us. Everybody from the receptionist (very kind & accommodating for scheduling on the phone and during the checkout process), to the vet tech (Jen was amazing and so kind & gentle to Callie who is very scared around strangers), to Dr. Watson (really knowledgeable of her health history and really took the time to research and find the best diet plan for her), were just so kind, caring, helpful, and knowledgeable. All of our questions were answered (which we had a lot of), we never felt like we were being rushed and they really took their time to get to know Callie. Thank you Kimball Animal Hospital! Perfect place for a rescue/adopted pets! We rescued a Pitbull mix from Detroit last year. We didn't know a lot about him and the rescue provided the basic neutering/vaccines. Everyone we have interacted with at Kimball has helped read our dog's Zip vaccine history from the rescue, when it wasn't always clear. They have also always answered questions about his health, supplements and most recently what to do regarding this recent Parvo outbreak in Northern Michigan. They respond via email and phone and always follow-up after Zip has had a shot or recent appointment to make sure he is doing okay. Staff also spend significant time early on when Zip had some episodes where he was shaking sometimes and we didn't know what was going on. I've been bringing my 2 cairn terriers here for a few years now. The people here are awesome! The veterinarians and techs are so helpful and thorough. You can tell that everyone here truly loves animals. Brought my 2 in today and the tech remembered by name which one was which and seemed so happy to see them. Makes a difference especially if you have an animal that gets anxious at the vet. They are a bit pricy but worth it in my opinion. The people here put their all in and you can tell. This vet office is absolutely wonderful! we have taken our cats there for over a year now and the staff is exceptional. Our beloved cat fell acutely I'll this past winter and Dr. Watson and the incredibly compassionate techs walked us through difficult decision making, securing us a visit with a specialty vet. Dr. Watson himself contacted me when he heard we compassionately euthanized our beloved cat. The owner, Dr. Rivas also gives back to the community and truly supports his staff. I actually found Dr. Kimball on YELP! He and his amazing staff took care of my dog for the past 3 years. My dog (a chihuahua-mini pin mix) has a history of chopping off his vet's hands and arms while peeing, pooping and barking, yep, all at the same time. He is a friendly dog but nervous by nature. Dr. Kimball had the dog whisperer touch, my furry friend did try to attack him but Dr. Kimball managed to get him to behave. ALL the staff at Dr Kimball is great, kind, friendly and very service oriented, they were really nice to my dog. We were frequent boarding clients and my dog would actually be happy to stay at Kimball's, the staff loved him and he loved them back. I think the key is that they do realize they are taking care of a family member and they treat your pet just like that. It was hard saying good bye to Dr Kimball and staff (relocation.....) I definitely recommend his veterinary services and boarding services, they are great, you won't be disappointed. read more

Where do I start? This is by far the best vet I've been to. The ladies at the front are so kind and approachable, and are always ready to answer and questions you may have. Both vets I've seen (I can't remember their names, sadly) were so nice and understanding. We were bringing in my 19 year old kitty for an ear problem she's had for years, and the vet gave us plenty of information and advice before deciding on treatment, which always helped the problem. When we had to bring her when she was on her last leg, the vet was very calm and helped us through the process when we put her down. We had decided to change vets, but with a month and half before vaccine updates, we hadn't found anyone yet. Unfortunately, my puppy became extremely lethargic and clearly had a fever. I did a quick Yelp search and found Kimball. I felt better about kimball from the moment I first called. The lady who answered the phone was warm and understanding. They got us right in on a Monday morning, where of course, my 'lethargic' pup ran around charming everyone! Staff was all very friendly, no real wait, and the Doctor was very friendly, great with my pup, and patiently answered all my questions. The only negative is that the Doc never actually introduced himself to me. I'm pretty sure it was Dr. Kimball, but I can't be certain. But hey, they got her in on short notice and treated her with love, so I'll let it slide! read more

Dr. Kimball and Dr. G are both caring and compassionate vets. We've been taking our animals here for 10 years and have recommended their services to friends in the area. We have used Kimball for checkups, teeth cleaning, mass removal, and spaying and have been very satisfied with their work. Dr. G was especially helpful and comforting to us when our senior cat was diagnosed with a brain tumor and had to be put to sleep. She called us after hours to discuss care and was extremely responsive to our requests. Dr. Kimball has an amazing way of handling animals and is super quick when trimming our squirmy pug's nails. The only downfall with KAH is that our pets seem to get sick or need attention whenever their office is closed (Wednesday morning or for a random day of parking lot paving). read more
