I've been seeing Kimberly Michel, O.D., since 2019 and have had nothing but positive experiences. Her office is located inside the Vista Costco, which can be a little hectic at times, and the office itself is pretty small, but it's absolutely worth it. Dr. Michel is fantastic. She has a great personality, is very knowledgeable, and always takes the time to answer questions and explain things clearly. She's easy to talk to and makes eye exams feel much less stressful. The front office staff is also always kind, pleasant, and easy to work with. I especially appreciate how easy it is to make appointments by phone or text. I go every year for my eye exam and prescription update, and the process is always smooth and efficient. I'll definitely keep coming back and would highly recommend her to anyone looking for an optometrist. read more

We have been to this optometry group inside the Vista Costco several times. The doctors are super nice and great at what they do. My daughter gets contacts from here and they are always gentle and communicative during her eye exam. The response time for appointments is awesome. Definitely recommend. read more

Went back to Dr Michel's office for a check up and had another excellent experience. The staff is very professional and I paid the extra $29. for the extra photo check of the eyes which is definitely worth it. Dr. Michel took the time to carefully examine my eyes and compare old and new results. Will definitely be back again in a couple years for another check up. And was able to go pick out my new glasses in the Costco optical Dept with the assistance of Trish, who helped me find the frames that were just right. Love my new glasses! read more

Really happy with Dr. Michel and her office. Had a great visit with Dr. Michel recently. She's warm, personable, and really easy to talk to, while also being clearly skilled and knowledgeable. She took her time and explained things well. Her staff was just as friendly and helpful. Everyone was professional but down-to-earth, which made the visit feel easy instead of clinical. I greatly appreciated the service I received here! When you call, make sure to have your insurance info on hand. I didn't but they were able to still find my insurance # after I gave them my provider. They called me back and told me my dues if I wanted to retain an appt there. Day before my appt, the doctor had a medical emergency so they scheduled me for an appt w another provider - Dr. Leung. Make sure to bring a copy of your lenses and eyeglasses to have a control to compare their results to. They checked for my eyesight, took a photo of the back of my eye and checked for peripheral vision. I really liked Dr Leung. I thought she was clear in her communication, and found her very very pleasant. Would definitely recommend. I think it's a plus cos they're also located inside Costco. read more

Greatly disappointed to be charged a $60 cancellation fee when the scheduler told us that while she could not find our insurance in our file, we could work it out when we got there. As existing customers of Dr. Michel, my wife and I showed up on time for our scheduled, annual eye checkup. Upon checking in, I was surprised to learn that she did not take our current insurance. When I made the appointment, the scheduler said that because we had been there before, they must take our insurance. Dr. Michel suggested we pay cash for the visit, which we did not want to do as we are paying for insurance coverage. Regretfully, we decided to cancel the appointment. The office manager said we could cancel, but would have to pay a $60 cancellation fee. Seriously? If Dr. Michel insists on charging a cancellation fee, she better make sure her scheduler clarifies that when the appointment is made. read more

We scheduled an appointment over the phone for my daughter to get an eye exam for both glasses and contact lenses. For those that don't know, this optometrist's office is inside the Vista Costco, to the left of the entrance. They say you don't need a membership to go to this doctor but I'm not sure how you get inside Costco without one. There are plenty of chairs outside the office, just be prepared to move your legs anytime a shopper rolls by with a huge cart full of food, booze and rotisserie chicken. We had to fill out some paperwork at the beginning (you can also print it online) but the appt went smoothly and the doctor was able to give my daughter some contact samples to take home. Easy-peasy. With insurance, the whole exam was only $50. read more

This is a very organized optometry office from start to finish. Some 5 or more assistants are there for you. These many people know their job and DO take care of you. The quality throughout is strong and fully there - all the way. You walk in fill out your paperwork and start right in their system so YOU do NOT fall through any cracks. I suggest you do the full Monty and get your eyes PHOTO-CHECKED for the $29.00 - it protects you. The up front cost is $89.00 - all with NO tax. So add it up - please. For more than 39 years I have used my Kaiser Foundation - I wanted to double-check them out. They passed - but frankly I prefer these people even for the extra out of pocket expense for me - alone. Kimberly A. Michel, O.D., is professional yet VERY personable at the same time - that is a hard thing to do now-a-days. My eyes "went" bad when I attended a sophisticated I.B.M. mainframe Computer Programmer/Analyst diploma program in Los Angeles at I.C.T. in 1985-1986. Therefore, if anyone strains their eyes - they will go SOUTH... She was more open than Kaiser ever was - WAY over the last almost 40 years. I have always seen independent Costco optometrists since 2015 mostly because of pricing in both the optometrists offices and the optical department . I have looked elsewhere for other optometrists and options, but most places will charge robbery fees just because you have eyes that need extra love and will charge for each and every reason. (PS, you only need a Costco card for contacts/glasses department, not the optometrists.) I've moved many times in my life around Southern California, and I am happy to say Dr Michel and her office exceeded expectations more than any office I have been to. They are friendly, efficient, and I don't get a "bleh" vibe around them like I have with many others. The office all had smiles on their faces, and Dr. Michel was extremely professional and has a great sense of humor. I don't know about you, but I know sense of humor as a patient for a medical appointment makes me feel much more at ease and comfortable . They are the busiest Costco optometry office I have ever been to - I do go to school and work but I could still tell by their appointment openings they are an office many people go to. I have read the last optometrist was exceptional as well but retired. I haven't been here in the area long enough to know but I do know you are In amazing hands with this optometry office read more

My recent eye examination with Dr. Michel exceeded all my expectations. She was very thorough, calming and took her time as to answer all my questions and concerns. She took a picture behind my eyes (Digital Retinal Imaging) to make sure I did not have other health issues. She did a great job of explaining the results and what she was looking for on the pictures. My regular exam revealed I had a minor stigmatism that did not require glasses but I asked for a prescription so that I can see signs clearer at night when driving. Dr. Michel has her practice inside the Vista Costco. This was very convenient because I was able to order glasses from the Costco Vision Center right after my appointment. I highly recommend Dr. Michel. She is nearly 50 miles from my house and I will pass hundreds of other optometrist to see her. Outstanding visit to an outstanding eye doctor. read more

The absolute best experience. Definitely would recommend this place, such a friendly staff. Dr Michel was great she got me through the exam quickly and we had some jokes and small talk along the way. If you're getting an exam for the first time or the 50th time it's great to feel like you're going to leave office seeing the world better than when you started. Dr Michel had some wonderful suggestions for my contacts and switching to daily use since I only wear them periodically now ultimately saving money and not needing to buy contact solution and deal with maintenance. I went to Dr. Michel today based on a review of a practice that she used to work at. The reviewer said it was worth driving across town to continue seeing Dr. Michel. I can understand why. She gave me the most informative eye exam that I have ever gotten, discussing a range of issues that I have now and that I may encounter as my aging eyes get older. And her cheerful and friendly attitude is so refreshing; she truly loves her work and it shows. Her practice is inside the Vista Costco but (and some people do not know this) you do NOT need to be a Costco member to go to her practice. Also being an independent business, not associated with Costco Optical, she makes no money from anything that you may buy at Costco Optical. So if she recommends, say computer glasses or single use contacts, it is in your best interest and not for her profit. read more

I've had astigmatism all my life. She claimed I didn't have astigmatism, yet my prescription from her denoted some astigmatism in one eye. After visiting an Ophthalmologist he confirmed I had astigmatism in both eyes, and one eye had it worse than the other. Do yourself a favor and find a more qualified O.D. to examine your eyes. read more

I am 65 and decided to finally get an eye exam. I scheduled one at the Costco on Hacienda in Vista. Dr Kimberly Michel is Awesome- What a Breath of Fresh Air.
