This place was recommended to me by another Korean friend in town. I was driving through I had time for dinner and was excited to skip rush-hour traffic for a good meal. They have outdoor seating in a sidewalk patio area with lights and picnic table style seating which is relaxed and comfortable. You walk in and order from the counter, and the young woman who assisted me was great. She turns out to be the daughter of the owners so it's a Korean mom and Pop place where mom and daughter are front of house and the father is Chef in the kitchen. So the food is cooked by a Korean AJJusshi! I asked for best recommendations and I was told that the kimchi fried rice was good as was the spicy chicken and the spicy pork. And then I asked because I saw a takeout order in the back, and was told that was the jjampong that her mom was taking home for dinner. I saw the traditional Korean comfort food jjajiangmyun on the menu so I decided I would order that no matter what. Because she told me that her father makes the sauce. And that's very important to know. I ordered the kimchi fried rice and an order of the dumplings which I could've had boiled or fried. I wanted to see how good the fried dumplings were and have to tell you that crisp on them was outstanding. Just outstanding. And the dipping soy sauce with vinegar and chopped green onions was perfection. I love that the food came out in the wide metal bowls -- which is quite common for a kind of Korean restaurants that I love eating at. The kimchi is made in house and that's when I decided I needed to try with the Mom was trying to. The jumping broth was thick and flavorful with so many of the best ingredients for spicy seafood soup: that a couple of large mussels and shrimp and the zucchini was cut thickly which I always appreciate, they had oyster mushrooms as well as tender pork chunks and bok choy and the right kind of noodles. Some restaurants try to use udon noodles as a shortcut but that's not the right noodles for jjampong and jjajiangmyun. The portions were really generous so I decided to have the jjajiangmyun packed up to go instead. The prices have to be mentioned because they were very reasonable relative to other Korean restaurants. Next time I will try the seafood pajun because the owner and I discussed how they made it and I'm excited because their approach is similar to my mom's: too thick, keep it crispy, and lots of seafood. They also had a beer on tap, which was served cold and was refreshing on a warm evening, and that I saw they had a cooler full of Korean Soju (the brand Jinro which is has a BTS member as it's Brand ambassador) and some good makkoli! I enjoyed the leisure of reading a book on the patio while eating. One of my favorite ways to do dinner. But the food is so good I am looking forward to coming back with friends. read more

Visiting from the San Francisco Bay and we just got into Portland for a few days and thought we'd start out with some Korean food. We started with the mandu, which were nice and crispy and had a good sauce. We ordered a couple beef bulgogi plates, a couple veggie bibimbap, and an order of kimchi rice. The bulgogi was good, the bibimbap was really good and the kimchi rice was the star of the show, really amazing flavor on that one. My wife and kids were raving about the pork belly slices on top of the kimchi rice, which I unfortunately didn't get to try (my son ate mine). Also, the banchan was fresh and flavorful. The service was very attentive and fast. We didn't wait too long for our food. The area that Kimchee & Rice is very nice and new, and the restaurant itself is very nice looking as well. A good amount of seating, and it started filling up around lunchtime, when we were there. Kimchee & Rice is definitely worth checking out (and putting on your list of Korean restaurants if you live in the Portland area). read more

I visited on a Wednesday evening and the place had plenty of space to sit and eat! It's a order at the front and seat yourself type of restaurant and the two servers there were very nice and accomodating! As for the food, the bulgogi was great and had a lot of flavor to it! The side dishes were also solid though the kimchi itself felt like it was missing something. As for the chicken, I had to get the honey garlic flavor as they didn't have the soy garlic, it was decent though I think I would have enjoyed the soy garlic more. Their food is delicious! I placed my order thru GrubHub and everything arrived on time, well packaged and correct. I ordered Pa Jeon, Veggie Bibimbop, Japchae, Veggie Kimbop and their Korean Miso Soup. Every item was fresh and very tasty. I was impressed with the quality of the food. I ordered here first online and got the spicy pork and veggie bibimbap. Those were enough to get me to have an in person visit! I came after the lunch rush and had a chance to talk to the owner who made me feel right at home. It felt comfortable and relaxed. I ordered the bulgogi, homemade kimchi, and the Korean fried chicken. Of course, my favorite soju was available and if you get the Terra you may get a fun surprise! Food was 10/10! The bulgogi (made from ribeye) was some of the best I've had. Kimchi flavors were phenomenal. Banchan was paired perfectly. Fried chicken was fantastic - I got the spicy! Both came out piping hot. The spice is tailored for a milder palette, but if you like spicy you can ask for it to be adjusted. Service was quick and friendly. Banchan was great. Best homemade kimchi in town. True Korean dishes served by the sweetest married couple. Their little side dishes vary each day and it's all made in house. It's always such an exciting visit trying new things and getting a bit of everything with friends. They have 2 beers on draft, different Asian beers in bottles, and soju!! My favorite dish is the soon tofu soup when it's on special. The atmosphere makes me feel like I'm eating dinner in someone's home, it's cozy and inviting, and Katie is seriously the best host. I lived in Korea for years. There was one place in Nashville that really scratched the itch for authentic Korean food, but even with tons of places here in Portland none of them tasted authentic. When I got off on Mississippi Ave I looked across the street and saw this Korean restaurant open in between Pistils nursery and Broder. I walked across the street and stepped inside. The place was clean and inviting. I walked up to the register and was greeted by a friendly elder woman. I asked her if the place had just opened and she said it was the 3rd day of their soft opening. I ordered the kimchee fried rice with pork belly. Ordered on uber eats and forgot my banchan $3. Won't refund. Very disappointed as I was looking forward to this. What I received was a small takeout sauce container of radish. Whether that's considered the "banchan" or the daikon my jajangmyeon was supposed to come with, I'm missing an item. The description is extremely misleading and scam like.
